@Flashguy45 Hmmm... sounds good. Although you cannot back up applications alone. It would have to then actually mirror or copy the entire drive. What's the restoring like though? And how much does it cost?
@thedevirkahan Not sure about the restoring, I'm considering getting it. I have seen on youtube it's as simple as selecting the file. As for pricing, Crashplan is $1 cheaper for the normal plan (not much I know) but for the family plan, it's $65 cheaper.
@Flashguy45 Hmmm... don't know to be honest. I know for a fact that Carbonite is secure and reliable. That's why I would just go with them - but it's your choice! Be sure to tell me what you think though!
@AlexsTechChannel Well, I'm not trying to "sell" you, I was just telling you about a product I think you should all use. I don't get ANYTHING if you use it, you know. It's just for your own good.
However, episodes of TechKnowledgey won't really be so centered around any one single product in the future. More on topics.
@FAB12UCB Not at all actually! Carbonite uploads with 128 bit encryption, and encrypts the actual files on your drive at 256 bit. As it said in the video, that's government standard encryption. No one is hacking this :)
Carbonite may be good, BUT NEVER as good as Norton Ghost. When your Windows installation fails, there is no way you'll be able to restore it with Carbonite - you can't just copy the files back. It needs to happen bit-by-bit, which is exactly what Norton Ghost does.
And believe me - it already saved my computer last week.
Wouldn't it be ironic if there was a fire in the carbonate server farm?

Crashplan is cheaper, and I don't know of anything carbonite can do that crashplan can't. And it backs up applications!

You can loose the files. Nothing is 100% secure but that's really unlikely that they would be destroyed.
Pallerous 1 year ago
o yer and technically if the building containing the server burns down you can lose ur data
17fattys 1 year ago
@17fattys Not really, no. I'm sure they have multiple servers. It can't all just burn down. It'd be VERY unlikely.

Technically, the data centers that run the websites COULD be burnt down and you could lose your data, so there's no 100% safe way of keeping data.
