@hoblywobly Well first of all, the spyder isn't the most powerful hand held laser regardless. WL likes to think it is, though... You can search Google for the Spartan. It clearly is a 1w laser. There are many homemade handheld lasers out there pushing 3W, but you can commercially buy some 2W IR lasers at Lazerer.com (which average over 1000mw more than this)
Dear Styroyro (if I spelled that right) I was wondering how long did it take to ship this item? Please answer as soon as possible. Ps I live in the US
I'm going to try out the Lazerer rifle v2. The host is pretty much the same same the arctic only smaller. And unlike the arctic I get a guaranteed over spec of a minimum of 1.2 watts. It's a shame the arctic is crap. And god forbid yours is defective because good luck getting in touch with the company.
False advertisement, they say 1000mw arctic but only puts out 700-800 if your lucky, even there own customer service guy will tell you that, why pay $300 for something your not getting what its says when you can pay $240 for the spartan 1w and it's true to is power, even a little over 1000mw, u decide, arctic just looks cooler but very Shitty company, read there reviews before u get scammed
hey styropyro i have been wanting to get a laser for a while and have enough funds to let me do so... i found two websites that sell lasers dragonlasers and you know wicked lasers... if you could tell me which company has better quality i have heard alot of bad things a bout wicked lasers but not that many about dragonlasers the shipping to me doesn't matter that much just mainly quality and price. if you could reply that would be great thanks. hope you get better =P
@ILOVEGALLIUM91023 hey man if u want a laser that looks kool and like a lightsaber get the arctic if u wnt a laser that burn insanely with a power over a lil over 1w get the saprtan from dragonlasers i wnt styro to get the sprtan so he cn do a review and comparion between the two hopefully he does THUMBS UPP FOR STYRO TO GET SPARTAN!!!!!!!!!!!
@ILOVEGALLIUM91023 Yes, though I would highly suggest not going with wickedlasers. They're mostly regarded as a scam to the laser community. Just google 33 reasons not to buy from wicked lasers, click the first link, and you'll find why.
@rdezoveelste dude, don't be dumb. if you looked at the DOT, not even need to point at your eye to blind you, you need googles, unless you hate your eyes,
I know that the Spyder III Arctic is extremely hazardous if the dot is shone straight into the eyes directly or if the dot say reflected of a shiny surface and again hit you in the eyes if you didn't wear the goggles provided, that part I understand.
What I want to know is, do you need to wear the goggles that come with this laser IF you have the laser pointing away from you and you are only looking at the blue beam itself coming out of the lens?
@DJWildy oh, well please don't listen to the person who just responded to you, you need goggles at all times, or else you will go blind, only time you can not were them is if you are pointing in the sky and never showing the dot on anything
@Themandudebro227 Aye, the reason I ask is because it would be a bit silly to buy a blue coloured laser, and then wearing the goggles takes the colour of the laser away.
@DJWildy The beam wont hurt you, because it's not focused at you, but any reflection will, because even if it is not coming directly from the diode, it still is focused at you.
Don't use it without safety googles even outside, because even if you are point it at the sky, an airplane could reflect the beam (it has happened, and it is illegal to point it at any flying object) and harm you.
@OZPerpetue lmao, sure you can use the laser outside without goggles, just be really careful and dont point it close to you or on any shiny material. And remember to watch out for planes... you can accidently drop the plane/helicopter by pointing at it.
But airplane reflects the beam back to you?! :DD:D:D thanks for laughs!
Just keep in mind that what I wrote is true, and remember, not all airplanes fly very high, there are private planes who fly pretty low and are bare metal (I mean no paint) and easily reflect 1w lasers, it has happened to me.
And lasers are not toys, you should always use glasses, outside or inside, accidents can happen, I used to work with lasers and saw some terrible accidents, fortunately nothing happened to me.
@justiceanne Well I guess you could be very careful and take your chances, I mean it can happen, but chances are it won't, I know I wouldn't do it because of what I have seen. Probably on a secluded place, where there are no airports nearby (the country perhaps), that would be safer and you would be able to appreciate the stars much better because there wouldn't be light pollution.
The biggest problem with the Arctic Spyder 3 is that it doesn't output 1W of power as advertised. It typically yields 750-800mW. The only way I could get mine somewhat close to 1W was by spraying compressed air on the diode to freeze it temporarily.
@MelkorHimself Sue for false advertising! Maybe you can settle out of court and get free lasers. Then you can get like 30 of them all focused with prisms and mirrors and have a super duper laser beam of death. No lawn mower? No problem! (Laser comes on mounted to a toy train set and slides on the front lawn) Choo choo! Bzzzzt. The MowLaser... when you need mo' laser.
@WolfieboyMachi Because the output is so large, even when the beam reflects off a surface and loses most of its energy, its still strong enough to do damage to the sensitive eyes
Im sorry but no company should ever sell a product 1/4 less power than advertised they have to fix that problem to make the minimum output power on high at least 900 mw
@TheManWhoCreates Yes it would destroy a camera, I actually have a video were I purposely do this. It's called "Laser Shoots Out Camera" or something like that.
@styropyro Did you ever see TechJunkie's post on what he thinks of WL? XD: laserpointerforums(.)com/f65/33-reasons-not-buy-wicked-lasers-56289.html BTW, on a side note, your wire is awesome XD :P
@BriteRavenPictures57 says on their site "Max power" wich means thats the maximum amount the diode is made for and can only run at its max output level for a short time , why do you think people "pot mod" lasers, its because the laser is set lower so you guys don't complain that it blew
Ya the arctic is over rated! Not even close to 1watt! Not a single 1 produced has been up to spec as advertised. I recommend dragonlasers. Com 1w spartan laser, peaks at around 1100mw! Over powered! An cheaper, but of course all you get is the laser but it's the power advertised, not 700mw
Well the arctic spider 3 is only 750mw max, it's advertised as a 1w laser... The spartan is advertised as a 1w laser too an peaks at 1150mw! I have the spartan
@vinylloung if you look in the fine print, it is only really rated for 500mW. the 1W "max" power rating is a bit shady, but it is stated that it's only guaranteed 500mW.
@styropyro Yeah its only <1W just remember that less than sign when looking at the big basic print. Nice laser though. Love the vids since 2008! Thanks Styro :D
It is quite refreshing to see someone who wields a handheld device of such power without being one of those insane pyromaniac teenagers and posts an well thought-out review of the product.
The Artic S3 is not FDA-Compliant, I have yet to see a picture of it registering 1W on a LPM, and there are much more powerful options for half the price on many laser forums...
That being said, it's still a nice laser, when/if they decide to ship it to you.
how long did it take for it to get to you. i ordered mine cant wait 2 get it ps: love your vids

@nororo7 He burned out his throat via his secondary hobby.... he was swallowing laser swords. :-)
PS... you'd be a fool not to watch his previous video. :)

You need to burn things with this laser. That is, if you have the burning focus lens thingy?

So, where'd you get the laser output sensor device, and for how much?
NLhardcorebobNL 6 months ago
@NLhardcorebobNL it's a LaserBee 5W laser power meter with OPHIR head. It cost me $225 but it is no longer made (in this model)

Pyromaniac2450 6 months ago
@styropyro you should make a 3-D video of some of your lasers in action, that would probably be the coolest thing ever
