  • Great band, bass players a bit of a nob

  • I can just see Nicky saying, yes James, i'd love to do A Rihanna song. What a fabulous idea. How they have changed.

  • Comment removed

  • Manics way!!!

  • How many times is this better than the original?

  • @pawnsacrifice1 how may people wouldn't be caught dead listening to Rihanna, thinking she is shit, but when someone with "credibility" does it...it has so much depth and meaning. Rih writes and has artistic control, if she wanted to be some commercial front, they'd be better looking at Beyonce. Fucking hypocrites and snobs!

  • I somehow liked Rihanna's version from the beginning, but Manic Street Preachers took this song to the next level. Well done!

  • this is brilliance, im crying right now trying to express how beautiful this is to me i only love my family like this

  • thats fuckin great! love it

  • Yeah, I don't listen to Rihanna. But I'd be a fucking hipster to say her music is bad. I never gave her chance... although I probably never will. Music's subjective, sure... but talent isn't.

  • Hmmm, this is just a cover of an average song, but, they have done it better. Still an average song. Paul

  • Rain, prepare Your umbrella please

  • lillasyster - umbrella... probably the best version for ME, its metally.. manic's is more just a rock version

  • 1958 positives and one more.....1959....

  • Not many covers better than original but this one is! Well done Fellas-ellas!

  • The greatest version of this song, the 120 dislikes why did u bother listning to this

  • im a big fan of them but i dont like this... also rihana's version is one of the most annoying songs i've heard in last few years

  • I like the manic's cover, and I believe it's a much better song... I don't like rhianna's music, but this song, i've always liked it

  • Amazing cover but just bizarre.

  • Manics rules!

  • This is really good I don't like Rhiannas version...But this one is good sound wise ....I wouldn't of covered it though.

  • Love this version. Rhianna who?

  • Rhianna's version of this song was good, but I LOVE this version.

  • People that love this version but hate Rihannas version dont listen to music properly, musical snobbery/antipop is stopping you from hearing that the original as a decent song. They are both ridiculously catchy versions.

  • @adriandecleir you're right to a point..pop music does have some decent lyrics and meanings but a lot of them are hidden behind crappy autotune and synth type crap that people who understand meanings in songs dont want to listen to and the people who do listen to pop usually listen to it for the beats and to dance to it and dont think about the meanings. but to say people who love this version and hate rhiannas dont listen to music "properly" is ludicrous and makes you a snob as well

  • @pivotybob Ok, maybe a little snobby of me , but I just genuinely cant a see a reason why one person would love this version, and not just mildly dislike the other one, but actually HATE IT??? Its confusing, as I just said in another reply, theyre the same song, same key, same lyrics, same tempo, so to love one and HATE the other one can only leave thinking that there person is being completely biased because its pop music and isnt actually listening to the music itself.

  • @adriandecleir I see where you're coming from but compare this and rihannas version....rihannas version is drums (maybe electric im not fully sure) and a synth keyboard from what i can tell. now this version has an overdriven guitar, drums, bass and another guitar doing the slides. Yes they're the same song, same lyrics and whatever but people hate rihannas because its synthy and electric whereas this has people playing actual instruments

  • @adriandecleir i disagree. i'm an avid music fan. but i really hate rihanna's version. i prefer this one.

  • @eyow321 Why though? Because of the melody? Its one thing preferring one over the other, but hating something that pretty much has the same tempo, same key, same melody, same lyrics, admittedly different instruments just confuses me to be honest.

  • @adriandecleir i prefer rock music than mainstream pop. i guess that explains a lot. :) i do like some pop songs though, don't get me wrong.

  • @adriandecleir people who think rihannas version is good have no perception of sound and need to climb back up their mothers uterus and unborn themselves, because quite frankly they should not exist

  • @adriandecleir Am I a snob if I prefer a nice Chicken Tikka Masala over a non-descript plate of miscellaneous meat? Stuff your "snobbery", the lyrics are the same but this version just sounds better, and not just written by a cabal of guys for something pretty to sing. YES I dislike the whole ethos of the "Made Purely To Shift Units" pop, and I'm staunchly proud of that fact. :P

  • @bulletproofblouse Well put my friend

  • @mapexblack Perhaps a little bit brusk, and your reply came as news to me that I'd even commented in the first place. I suspect booze was involved. I have nothing against people who like either version, it's a matter of opinion. For myself all I'd say is Rihanna's in a section of the music business run by guys in suits chasing trends purely to make money, it just dampens the flavour (to stick with the food metaphor). They are, however, great lyrics and that's true of both artists.

  • James could sing the label of the back of a sauce bottle and make it sound fantastic!

  • @Robcatist

well said mate, it was only the emergence of oasis that kept them quiet, which left it to people who really appreciate good music to find out about James.

  • James could sing the the label of the back of a sauce bottle and make it sound fantastic!

  • James Dean Bradfield is such a hot bear these days. Man, look at those arms.

  • @BearTrap2 wait until he hits 50 (o;

  • gay

  • Wow their version is really uplifting

  • Best umbrella cover i've ever heard :)

  • Much better than the original. MSP's always do great covers.

  • Beats the origonal so sick of hearing Rihanna anyway cause every 18th party or the clubs on holiday constantly play that shit.

  • Love the vocal effects going on. That little delay and what sounds like a slight bit of chorus perhaps? I never really did listen to the original but then I'm a Manics fan so I guess I wouldn't.

  • Wow! Brilliant cover!

The original - well, I suppose it's better than a kick in the teeth.

  • great guitar solo.... !

  • ludilo drugari:-)

  • @tiketbrejker sere ovaj youtube..reeci zar nije kul..ja volem menikse xx

  • jobb mint az a nyafogos rihanna!!

  • cover is good, lyrics are shit rofl.

  • i cant watch it in playlist. and it really sucks SME fuck you for restricting this

  • check it to the end Zwikster.wars are over....time to sit down an talk

  • @Zwikster Covering a song doesn't make them sell-outs. Selling out includes parts in commercial or change of genre to please a record company.

  • excellent

  • fkin rocks.....wot a version...stand under me umbrella

  • Sounds awesome. Great cover, love the Manics :D

  • Garbage

  • Quality cover, prefer this to the original!

When I was in the UK found this band called "the87" who have a similar vibe. Search "the 87" and there song called "the print".. pretty sweet

  • Love

  • @IanZG1 Rihanna's version is rubbish. Almost every song she sings she does a disservice to it.

  • That song should have been given to them in the first place. Both the band and video are way much better than Rihanna and her soft porn video.

  • As far as I'm concerned, he has one of the best rock voices of the last 20 years.

Seen them many timed before they became a bit shite in recent years.

  • As far as I'm concerned, he has one of the best rock voices of the last 20 years.

Seen them many timed before the became a bit shite in recent years.

  • im not a fan of manic or rhianna, but this is way better!

  • @dpkerby go fuck urself u schlepp.

  • I cant wait to see them on Putte i parken.

  • shame this song is about satan.. its a good cover..

  • @SovereignBeing how do you work that one out????

  • @CGAFFWYT they call satan the 'rainman', and thats what the rain and umbrella theme refers to, rhianna's a big time programmed illuminati slave to the system, same as gaga and everyone else who is popular for that matter,. go watch some of Farhank501 's videos if you want to learn more about how the industry is corrupted by satanic forces. the videos are called "the industry exposed".

  • @SovereignBeing satan is an imaginary entity just like god is, i will check out your illuminati connection, may prove intresting! :0)

  • @SovereignBeing Please give it a rest. Everywhere I go on the internet I'm coming across illuminati conspiracy theories. Rihanna is just a puppet of her record company not the Government.

  • @lemsip i cant hide the truth and i wont protect evil, you might turn a blind eye to it but the consequences are something you will have to deal with.. so yeah i will keep expressing my opinion - thanks.

  • @SovereignBeing What is the truth? Satan has nothing to do with rain. In fact farmers, gardeners and those working for water companies pray for rain.

  • @lemsip rainman rhymes with satan, go watch eninem's rainman video read the lyrics and watch "The Industry exposed" series by FarhanK501 , then come back and comment when you know a bit more about what you're talking about,

  • @SovereignBeing The Manic Street Preachers named one of their albums 'This is my Truth, tell me your's'. What this means is that we all have our own truth because it cannot be pinned down as such.

  • @SovereignBeing I saw this video and it frightened me a lot especially with the horrible spooky music that made Beyonce and Rihanna melodic and talented by comparison. There was much speculation and exaggeration in the spoken content of that video.

  • @SovereignBeing FarhanK501 could find a conspiracy at a church picnic. He doesn't know what he's talking about, along with alienating the british music industry. He doesn't talk anything about british bands, why? They have much more impact on other bands and young people, more than gaga or Rihanna ever will.

  • @HonkyCat90 have you ever looked at his website.. ?

  • @SovereignBeing nope, a link would be appreciated.

  • @HonkyCat90 its on his channel,

  • Great great live act. I saw them at the Olympia, Dublin. As James Dean Bradfield, being a top front man, Definately. Maniac Street up there with the best. Much better than U2, and as good as The Script.

  • I reckon they could cover Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and make it amazing!

  • Simplemente es genial :)

  • illuminATI MUSIC

  • im looking forward to seeing msp at oxygen 2011 this year im gonna flyin all the way from oz just to be there and worth every hour

  • cant wait to see them at oxegen

  • I have love MSP for as long as I remember, but at the same time, I love Rihanna's previous album "Rated R". I get that rock fans are usually not pop fans, but in all reality, this particular album of hers is particularly dark and emotional. On some kind level, it is possible to enjoy both although the "umbrella" song is not on Rated R.

  • This now sounds like a Manics song

  • i think it's kinda wrong that this video is the first result to come up when you type in "manic street preachers"........... :|

  • what for is this cover ??? Money?

  • You can say that a cover is good when it makes a song that you never cared about sounds quite nice.

  • @kaiosofista maybe u never cared but this songs u dont want to listen to are being pumped inside your head by the commercial music business if you like it or not. We are slaves of commercial crap music. :(

  • Yes! I love Rihanna! And the Manics! LOL SHEDDY!

  • Manics are as good now as they were in the 90s :D

  • @Android18a As much as I enjoy this cover, no they're not as good as they were in the 90s.

  • I love it! Thanks to my local radio station 99.7 The Blitz (morning DJ MOE) for playing it!!

  • great band

  • Chills. Amazing.

  • Damn good cover! Better than the original by a good bit!

  • This is shit lol.

  • james's voice is fucking amazing in this song!!! i know its always amazing but his voice is incredible in this

  • a far better cover than the original

  • took a duff song and made it good.

  • awsome this song

  • i think this versions really good!!

  • Well I like it!

  • Oh dear :L Love them but why this?

  • Reminds me of IYTT

  • what the fukc??? that song originally belongs to Manic Street Preachers!!!!!! Rihanna cover, haha ha............ Rihanna Sukcs

  • Fucken love it!

  • where the fuck did you go richie

  • @busted916 Nobody knows

  • I don't see the point, it's just them singing it exactly the same with different music. It's hardly a cover, they're not really adding anything to it.

  • @fezzverbal that's what a cover is.

  • @MEGALULZATME ugh just cba

  • @fezzverbal wot? have you any idea what you are talking about??? This is a ROCK version - with guitars, drums & rock vocals. IT ROCKS!!!

  • @photoboy66 I posted my opinion, that is all.

  • Im the opposite, I hate people that try and be balanced whatever the result.l The way you judge which is better is by listening to the two live versions, Rihanna can't sing for shit, but James Bradfield can sing very well indeed. My vote goes manics, simply because he is sooo many leagues ahead of Rihanna. Don't try and score browny points by being politically correct about it.

  • @rickheyes0 Obviously I mean they didn't have a choice in what song to cover.

  • great cover. but no need for the random blonde with an umbrella in hand haha

  • I'm just gutted that Nicky didn't do Jay-Z's part.

  • @lucydingdong That would be awesome.

  • I LOVE THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS :D

  • like the bands, but why does a Radiohead mix have very few radiohead songs? weak.

  • Rihanna is awesome and so were the manics back in the day. pseudo-elitists need to stfu and stop acting like they have a clue about music.

  • this just shows there musical talent

  • Can i listen to this version, but still shag Rihanna please ? Huh, pretty please.

  • The Manic's version of this song, is pure genuis. Full Stop. End. Of.

    But, lets be fair.

If your a Manic's fan, then you most likely wont like Rihanna's version anyway.

However, i like the odd song of Rihanna's, including her performance.

I couldn't listen to more than a few songs by Rihanna at a time, but gotta give some love to the woman!

  • I think Rhianna should talk to the Manics. She could get singing lessons from James, makeup tips from Nicky and shooting lessons from Sean.

  • to even compare manics to rhianna makes you a clown, ClOWN!!!

  • the random pic of the blonde girl is too funny lol!

  • Better than the original

  • @Usurped totally agree !!!!

  • 4REAL

  • hate the original love this cover!! :)

  • genial!!!

  • The song was written by The-Dream, Christopher Stewart, Kuk Harrell and Jay-Z, and was produced by Stewart.

  • mon the biffy

  • Good version but personally i prefer Biffy Clyros cover. This is still good though.

  • Rihanna was awesome in the original but if given a choice, I will always listen to this version!!!!!!

  • This song is very good, but I hate all socialist scumbags. And they are socialists. Every socialist is a bastard and nothing is going to change this.

  • @TheCashubianman You mean - Every capitalist is a bastard and nothing is going to change this ?

  • @ALEXXTS Some capitalists are bastards, right. When we talk about socialists, we have to say that all of them are bastards and thieves. There can be honest socialist but he has to be totally stupid because he believes in what he's saying. Or both options together.

  • @TheCashubianman The fact that the only way most countries can run is on a capitalist system is just a reflexion on humanity as a species. Greedy, selfish, self-obsessed. You're just part of that part of humanity that has no control over this part of your life.

  • @TheSweetMandJ Wrong. Europe, USA, Canada, Japan etc. Those countries do not relay on capitalism anymore. The taxes are enourmous, invigilation also, interventionism etc., etc. Ofc they have big monopolistic companies, but real capitalism is based on small and medium private enterprises. Read August von Hayek, M. Rothbard, L. von Mises and learn about the difference between socialism (and his mixture with modern capitalism) and the true capitalism!

  • So what if they are socialists. If you were brought up in the Welsh Valleys and your father was a miner and lost his job when Thatcher closed down the mines you'd be one too.

  • Don't argue about something you don't understand, k thanks. Ignorant assholes.

  • MSP> RIHANNA

  • can we all just take a minute to appreciate the fact that james dean bradfield is possibly the most underrated frontman of all time?

  • @Benjabola I think he is also one of the best vocalist's we have ever seen grace the big stage.

  • @Benjabola i can assure you that james is not the most underrated frontman of all time he is just one of the plenty underrated frontman

i don't wanna be rude but thats the truth.

  • @Benjabola Cannot agree more.

  • I think it's generally true that bands cover songs that they like. Not necessarily to improve. I'd see it as a compliment.

  • Tow viciado nessa musica muito bom vlw!!

  • I dont like it. They should keep playing their own music.

  • Love it!

  • it sounds better when you change the chorus to "dont ever call me trevor" trevor trevor eh eh eh "

  • @redhotsuperskunk or ''don't you dare drink my sasparella''

  • @TheSweetMandJ lol whatever trevor loool

  • i do like his all white les paul, it has to be said!

  • Lamest song ever. Any self-respecting musician would know better than to choose such a retarded cover song.

  • @imlivinitupniggaz i really hope you're trolling, cause if you're being serious then you really are a spastik.
