  • @thegeezaone R.I.P. 1986

  • TVS was an ad-hoc network of stations that carried syndicated sports programming .Unfortunately for the NASL, many stations in big markets didn’t carry the TVS games, and some that did shunted them off to 11:30 pm on Monday nights, well after they had been played. A reasonably consistent, live, major network television package would elude the NASL for another year.In 1979, the NASL landed a contract with ABC that called for 9 telecasts of league games, including the playoffs and championship

  • @parkman35 I've read that somewhere before...

  • @parkman35 TVS was the brainchild of Eddie Einhorn who has been a Chicago White Sox investors since 1981. Your second sentence is so accurate; WSNS-Channel 44 in Chicago, at the time an English language station and the flagship of the White Sox television network, aired the TVS games late night on Mondays. The match analyst was Paul Gardner who would later work the ABC telecasts and has been a columnist for Soccer America & World Soccer magazines for many years.

  • @lsmftymf I rememebr it well having been in Chicago all my life. Before Einhorn & current Jerry Reinsdorf bought the White Sox at the beginning of the 80s, WSNS broadcast White Sox baseball games as well as other sports programming. Einhorn came up with this nutty pay TV network called ON-TV in which you had to have a special box to watch selected sports events and late night "severely edited" adult programming via the WSNS channel. If you didn't have the box the picture was scrambled.

  • @parkman35 Best memory of ON-TV for nonsubscribers? Bob James' "Touchdown." That was the instrumental used when Channel 44 morphed into ON-TV.

  • @lsmftymf Wow..I forgot about the Bob James tune..which you can find here at YouTube..I had a litttle Sony TV with a pop up screen that I could watch channel 44 when it was in ON-TV mode and the picture was 80% straight..watching those adult movies that were edited to the hilt...
