Sooooo cute. My gerbil bailey, regularly sits on my shoulder and helps me study. Now its winter he cuddles up on my chest and uses my body heat to keep warm and my cardigan as a blanket haha :) Tamest gerbil I've ever had! :)
SO CUTE! Will they sit still and sleep in your hand? Will they sit quietly on your bed while you read a book, or snuggle up on your chest? I'm considering adopting a gerbil or hamster (most likely a gerbil unless my mom suddenly falls in love with a hamster) and I'd like a quiet animal to train to sit quietly and let itself be pet.
they are so pretty! i have 4 gerbils,2 in each cage.the big fat ones i have are quite tame but i have to handle them more often.the little ones nibble alot and one of them bit my sister and she started bleeding....not good lol
my gerbil is scared of my hands... maybe its because i try to scoop him too often. I use to have a hamster and scoopin a hamster was the best way..but i guess its diff for gerbils. Ive had mines for 2 months and it fears my hands. It literally tries to advoid my hand :( and when hes on my hand, he jumps off noo matter how high.
Any suggestions how i can get him to like my hand?
Your gebils are so tame! How do you get them to be like that? mine dont climb on my hand, I have to pick them up, but when they are on my hands they are fine. any tips? thanks :)
They are Mongolian. They were just very young when I shot this video and hadn't quite "grown into" their adult frames yet. Now that you mention it, they did mature differently than my other gerbils did, but they did eventually mature to look like normal adult Mongolians, though. :)

I know what you mean! When I got Pippi and Annika (my second pair of gerbils), I actually planned to get Pippi and a little lilac gerbil... but Annika kept crawling up my arm. After she crawled up my arm the seventh time in a row, I decided that she would be Pippi's tankmate instead of the little lilac girl. Annika clearly wanted to come home with me. Hard to turn them down when they're so friendly!!! :)
Mischa was the best! She would hop in my hand all the time and was most happy sitting on my shoulder. She would also oink like a guinne pig. It was soft though.
My gerbil Sysco mated with another gerbil and I was wondering if her sister could stay in the same cage as Sysco until and after she has the pups. The dad won't be in the same cage.
Actually, I was very lucky that Marco and Polo came to me this tame. They were bred from a very tame line.
I've had other gerbils, though, that weren't as tame to start with that have gotten very tame. I think it helps to give them time outside their tank (crawling on your shoulder, playing on the floor of the bathtub, running in a gerbil-safe room, etc.). I think time out of the tank makes them tame faster than giving hand-fed treats. Playtime is a better reward than food. Hope that helps! :)

I semi-gerbil-proofed my room(meaning there are a few crevices they could get stuck in, but thats quickly fixed by stuffing an old shirt in it) and my gerbs all enjoyed it!!!! They're very excited to get another free-run!!! Thanks twinsqueks : D

I was going to suggest that you get the pair of young gerbils, because they're usually very curious, which helps with taming. :)
