Is she not aware that the use of a Statutory Instrument is not required where the parent Act does not specify it meaning it's rarely used because most of the laws passed through are not seen as "important" enough.
@basch2020 Not yet! Hopefully he will soon. The defection of another Lord and two Councillors to UKIP in September and October is showing that the Conservatives are not what they say they area. Dan Hannan will hopefully be one of the MEP's to defect in the very near future!
"91% of abortions were carried out at under 13 weeks gestation; 75% were at under 10 weeks
medical abortions accounted for 40% of the total"
it's actually saving tax payers money. The cost of keeping disabled children is huge, and i know money is important to you, so the aboritons are saving you money.
ANWAY, I'm bored with you. You can continue to believe Hannan is the future, (you'd be wrong). In the same way the British people disliked the extremism of labour in the 80's, they'll dislike this extreme right wing foreign Libertarian.
Even the conservatives know this, hence why they shipped him off to europe.
His burnt any chances he might have had by lieing about the NHS.
@AbortionKillsBabies You are American, because if you knew how Britain worked and knew this morons policies, then you'd know he is totally unelectable. Anyway he was born outside the UK, so he can't be Prime Minister. (this is a joke btw).
@AbortionKillsBabies You are American, because if you knew how Britain worked and knew this morons policies, then you'd know he is totally unelectable. Anyway he was born outside the UK, so he can't be Prime Minister. (this is a joke btw). He is also at the bottom teir of politicians in the UK. We send our unelectable, idiots and retired politicians to europe.
@AbortionKillsBabies If he's so excellent as a politicans why is he in the bottom tier of politics ??
As you SHOULD know Europe is where all the deadwood is sent, i give you the welsh windbag Kinnock as an example! For fearless, read stupid. He lied about the NHS AND HOW a&e WORKS, he also steals other [peoples speech's and claims them for his own. He has never done a days work in his life, as a career poltician he has NO TRANSFERABLE skills, hence why he is in the EU.
Kinnock ended his political career in Europe whereas the up and coming star of the Conservatives Hannan, who has not even turned forty, is just begining his.
@AbortionKillsBabies Typical right wing narrative. No Dianne Abbott is a hypocrite and a racist. I am consitstent in my dislike of all politicians.
You off course ignore the facts, he is in the LOWEST tier of UK politics. You're off course correct, mind you (given your handle) you prefer to see rape victims forced to give birth. EVERYONE dies, I didn't say when did I ?? Yet, you'll be pleased that the tories will kil plenty of old people this year, that VAT rise was alovely weapon.
@AbortionKillsBabies LOL, the turnout for the EU elections is about 30%, the tories got 800K votes, that's approx 12% of the electrorate...wow really really meaningfull. No one cares, that's the only reason he gets in. He's an embarrassment to the tories.
I assumed you were anti-abortion, the handle does rather infer it, apologise if incorrect.
No it wasn't ..I had merely pointed out your childish attempts to backtrack on allegedly wanting Hannan to "die"...
"I assumed you were anti abortion"
I am...but no issue is completely black and white.
"He's and embarrassment to te tories"
Well without any supporting evidence we only have your word on that..and since you claim to hate "all politicians" I presume that your word must be taken with a large pinch of salt.... regarding all matters political at least.
DT 26 AUG 2009 "Daniel Hannan, the Conservative MEP who embarrassed David Cameron by attacking the National Health Service, has praised Enoch Powell, the former Cabinet minist"
Independant 14 Aug 2009 "David Cameron today slapped down a Tory MEP who went on American television to attack the National Health Service, dismissing his views as "eccentric"
Why on earth should the NHS ...the second biggest employer in the world after Indian Railways....be immune to attack? They should surely be as efficient and accountable as any other tax payer funded organisation.
@AbortionKillsBabies 3rd biggest employer, you forgot the Chinese army. He doesn't want the NHS to exist, he wants us to have the American system, and he lied about how A&E worked.
In comparison, the Amercian system is nearly 2.5 times more expensive (over 7K pp compared to 2.9K in the UK pp) and (16% GDP to 8.4 GDP), and has a larger percentage goes on adminsitration. So, in comparision the NHS is a cheaper and more streamlined than the Amercian system which he prmoted and glorified.
@bakersteven3 "So in comparison the NHS is a cheaper"
Adopting the American system would not mean an identical set up and the ultimate costs would be largely determined by the efficiency with which the system is run... In the UK there are many anomalies not least of which is that many doctors and surgeons simultaneously get a full 6 figure salary from (allegedly) working full time for the NHS whilst make a very considerable additional chunk from private medicine.
@AbortionKillsBabies Age Concern said the VAT rise (which attacks those live at home all day...like pensioners) would have to choose between eating or paying their fuel bills.
@AbortionKillsBabies Yeah, you're right Age Concern have no knowledge of old people. Much better to leave it to 10 millionaires in the cabinet, they know how to live on 100 a week..oh no that;'s their food allowance for the day !!
If you don't trust them then it doesn't matter what proof I give.
@bakersteven3 "I am consitstent in my dislike of all politicians"
Pity you can't spell "consistent" (amongst other words) despite your mocking of my education standards...
There are good and bad in every profession and to dislike all people of one profession seems a little blinkered and bogoted and is a stance I would only principally hold towards all abortionists..
@AbortionKillsBabies Education and fat fingers are different, and I suffer from dyslexia (hence the occasional spelling error). I'm not going to argue abortion, as we won't get anywhere and not worth either of our time.
@AbortionKillsBabies No, mad christians are indefensible and because they know better than the women, (they have no responsibility for the baby aswell), it's pure facist behaviour to force a women to have ababy because you've read a book.
Oh so you resort to make abortion into a religious issue..how original! Btw most religions are also just as opposed to rape, theft and murder as well..so does that make those crimes exclusively religious too?
"There are good and bad in every profession and to dislike all people of one profession seems a little blinkered and bogoted and is a stance I would only principally hold towards all abortionists.."
a wonderfully contrary statement I must say.
I could point out to you that I'm not the capital of Columbia...shall I critizise your spelling now "bogoted"??
But I'm bigoted for disliking politcians but you're not for diliking doctors trying to help women...lovely.
@bakers "a wonderfully contrary statement I must say"
Not really..just an honest one. All abortionists can in my opinion be tarred with the same brush..whereas those who seek political office vary tremendously in terms of whether or not they are there for the right or wrong reasons and motivations.
"Shall I critiizise your spelling.."
I know how to spell bigoted it was a typo..it was you who casted aspersions as to my standard of education..despite being unable to spell many various words
The Hippocratic oath specifically refers to refraining from performing an abortion or euthenasia and indeed causing harm to anyone.......
"I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion."
You have no right to tell anyone else what to do with their body, perhaps we should bring back the death penalty, get rid of trials by jury...if you want to go back to the dark ages then go the whole way.
@bakersteven3 "perhaps we should bring back the death penalty"
Haha..so you presumably see the death penalty for the very worst criminals as a retrograde step ("dark ages")...but NOT it seems the largely tax payer funded **death penalty** for some 200,000 British and totally innocent babies in the womb every single year.....
@AbortionKillsBabies WHAT HAS Hannan ever done for employment ? H ehas NEVER done a days wrok yet you idolise him, for the fact he has NEVER PAID UK TAXES, is NOT BRITISH, and lives in SPAIN.
He is a liar and a plagiarist, and you find this a GOOD POINT.
Daniel John Hannan (born 1 September 1971 is a British journalist, author and politician who is currently a Member of the European Parliament, representing South East England for the Conservative Party and the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) political group. He is also the Secretary-General of the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR).
Hannan was first elected to the European Parliament at the 1999 election.
"Hannan is also a journalist, having written leaders and currently authoring a blog for The Daily Telegraph. He has also published several books arguing for democratic reform."
I would confidentaly guess that he is rather more active than you...
@AbortionKillsBabies He's not a journalist he's a blogger. Since when has a blogger been a REAL JOB.
It's rather desperate to use blogging as employment, this means you are actively employed !
Publishing books, is again not a real job, anyone can publish a book, I met one man who had puiblished a book entitled "&7years tot he end of the world", that was in 1995. Sorry, I'm well aware of his blogging as i read the DT.
wow that last statement has a ring of epic proportions... so well put! having studied afro-caribbean history I know well the sentiment of the jamaican before he'd even set eyes on the 'mother land' - he revered the decency and fairness of thisonce great nation and was i'm afraid to say duely disappointed on arrival... but the idea remains, we'll get there one day, just stick to the principles and dont forget! the founding fathers have come closest to the ideals of britishness, lets get there eh?
@pepotamo1985 Nice that Iceland is now recovering from its economic and financial mess - thanks to billions of pounds borrowed from the IMF and European nations - The NHS (which I work in) is unrecognisable today compared to in 1997 after 18 Consevative years of neglect and under-investment, but sadly things are begining to go backwards again ( The Conservatives are back ) - As for Iceland and the EU, Iceland is a member of EFTA and therefore adopts virtualy every EU rule and directive.
Daniel Hannan: exponent of total privatisation, as he believes that profit -making for a few individuals is a far greater good than the welfare of the majority. Yes, that's right, a real modern-day conservative.
David Hannan is a complete pratt - he once praised Iceland for its good economic sense - look at Iceland now.
He detests the NHS - well at least as a Conservative he is honest, most Tories simply pretent to support the NHS and would never use it because they are rich enough not to need it.
@Whitbywatcher You're an idiot. Iceland has recovered from the crash well and are in a strong economic position now - much stronger, in fact, that most of the other countries affected by the crash. Largely because they're not part of the EU, which Hannan praised them for.
Also, detest is a very strong word, he's critical of the state the NHS is in (which is fair) and particularly opposed to the brainless New Labour tactic of throwing money at the service aimlessly in the hope it improves.
@Pepotamo1985 Totally ignore the fact that Iceland hasn't paid off it's debts, mainly tobritish councils !! And (good conservative attitude here) refuses to do so.
But never let the facts get in the way of the truth.
Daniel Hannan was born and grew up in Peru to multi millionaire ultra far right wing parents. Given the most expensive tuition and private education money can buy. Never unless he needs emergency aid in the UK use the NHS. Now lives in Spain, never had to work for his vast wealth unless its self promotion to further his own self interests and political agenda the leader of the British Conservative party had every right to "slap him down". He is doing the tories no favours...
@PRprince305 Socialism was tried in east/west germany? If you call the corrupted soviet system "socialist" you are gravely mistaken; very little of the economic or political system of the USSR were truly socialist. If you want to debate the political ideology behind socialism I would be happy to do so.
If you want to know why the majority of south america is poor, I suggest you read the history of colonialism etc.
This is the idiot who said that the NHS was a curse on british society. Hannan, you are not representative of the british people and I question why you and many of your peers think you are.
@xxksaoXX This is the guy who Americans wish we had. He is a breath of fresh air, and speaks the blunt, hard truth about welfare and socialism. Right on, Mr. Hannan! Stick it to the man!
@xxksaoXX This is the guy who Americans wish we had. He is a breath of fresh air, and speaks the blunt, hard truth about welfare and socialism. Right on, Mr. Hannan! Stick it to the man!
@xxksaoXX This is the guy who Americans wish we had. He is a breath of fresh air, and speaks the blunt, hard truth about welfare and socialism. Right on, Mr. Hannan! Stick it to the man!
@metaljaybird if you americans wish you had him by all means take him! how can you or this idiot know anything about socialism? the best things that have ever happened to the UK have occured under a socialist government.
@TheAntinode Iraq war, supported by the Conservative Party. Recession was a global financial event that cannot be blamed on a single party no matter how hard the right wing media try to. The UK has been the US's official lapdog since Eden's government.
1.) It is impossible to say whether Socialism will work because it hasnt had long to develop.2.) Learn to give people the modicum of respect when argueing a point. By trying to slander me it shows that you are incapable of intelligent arguement.
@xxksaoXX you are completely delusional, and to be honest I don't expect any less from European socialist. You vomited "It is impossible to say whether Socialism will work because it hasnt had long to develop," wtf are you talking about. That statement along makes it pretty clear it isn't worth the time and energy to debate you, because you are too naive of history.
@TheAntinode Why dont share this clearly boundless knowledge you have of the world?
Seriously, Socialism has only really existed for about 100 years while liberalism and conservatism has existed for significantly longer, allowing for the development of successful systems for a portion of society. However the closest system to a socialist one was the USSR and we all know the history behind that (nomatter what you think). Just to clarify I am not a socialist im a member of the Conservatives.
@MrGilles1990 You clearly have absoloutly no idea what the PRC (China) is like, the majority of any "private" buisness is at least partially owned by the government. FYI we are £4.8 trillon in debt because 1.) Financial Crisis 2.) Investment in countries which dont pay back what they owe 3.) Borrowing large amounts from the US
@MrGilles1990 "You may be a member of the Tory party but you are not a conservative." Now that would make a lot of sense wouldn't it? Joining a political party that does not reflect my personal political beliefs.
@MrGilles1990 Your logic astounds me. Are you suggesting that 'one nation' conservatives are a branch of socialism or not true conservatives?
Social conservatism and 'one nation' conservatism may not be branches of conservatism that you support or believe in but it currently works quite successfully and helps the populace to the greatest degree.
@MrGilles1990 But the fact is the Tories are not on the left, they have become a lot more centrist in recent years but they are anything but left wing or socialist.
It would also not be healthy for democracy if a party like UKIP or the BNP came to power.
@MrGilles1990 A couple are things are wrong with UKIP. For starters they are not pro-democracy otherwise they would acknowledge the referendum that took us into the EU which was unanimous 'Yes' and the second referendum that questioned the electorate about continued membership. Just because they are anti-EU it doesn't mean they are pro-democracy. Next they are filled with Racists and political jokes, Paul Wiffen, Frank Maloney, Gary Cartwright, Malcolm Pearson and to a lesser extent Nidgel Farag
@MrGilles1990 Also they like to portray themselves as 'different' or an 'alternative' to the three main parties but quite frankly they are not. Nidgel Farage for example claimed £2 million of taxpayers money on top of his £64,000 salary which is disgusting. They, like the reactionary Republican Party in the USA dismisses Climate Change as some sort of Conspiracy which is nonsense when you actually look at the facts. They also associate themselves with racists in the EU.
@MrGilles1990 Lastly, do you know anything of Politics or the Political Spectrum? The BNP is far right and their policies are barely distinguishable at times. Fascism and Nationalism, the BNP's ideology, are not left wing in any sense of the word.
@MrGilles1990 I suggest you read, A day to make history'? The 2004 elections and the British National Party by David Renton, Changing course or changing clothes? Reflections on the ideological evolution of the British National Party 1999-2006 (Patterns of Prejudice) by Nigel Copsey , Contemporary British Fascism: The British National Party and the Quest for Legitimacy by Palgrave Macmillan. Are but a few books on the subject that outlines their ideology.
@MrGilles1990 "What did Farage do with this 2 million did he spend it for himself? NO!" As far as I know he did pretty much spend it on himself.
Climate change/ Global Warming has been going on for millions of years, but not to the rate it was going before the industrialisation of the world's major economies.
Please name a party that Labour associates itself with that is 'National Socialist' especially seeing as National Socialism is Nazism.
The People's Republic of China currently has a form of market socialism referred to as the socialist market economy, in which most of the industry is state-owned through a shareholder system, but prices are set by a largely free-price system. - Wikipedia
@dazzzdelux Spoken like a true leftist. Not one comment on issue. Instead, insults. You don't seem to value national sovereignty. Like most memos, you missed the memo that Communism failed. GB won its freedoms through hard fought struggles. Now you insult a man who wants to protect those freedoms from a Continent with a legacy of Communism and Fascism, which GB saved the world from.
@wowsaO The U.S was set up so that the federal government had very limited power and the states had most of the power. The European Union by contrast seems to have most of the power. The EU was set up to be an economic trading alliance only, so why do they have the power to control aspects of your life, which have nothing to do with trade between countries? You have been fooled into giving away your freedom and are to dumb to know it!
Isn't it lovely to listen to a sincere honest rational common sense man talk. Whew. It's like a breath of fresh air. David where have you been all our lives!???? We've been waiting for a guy like you to help run
Our country for years. What wouldnt we give to have a quality man like you head our government. We are so sick of air heads and loons. Come over the pond. We are ready for you. Lol.
@Thwacker71 I'm pretty sure Hannan is not suggesting that Britain adopt America's system. I think I've read that he wants a system like that in France, Germany, Korea etc. Whereby the state funds but you have an insurance premium top up system. That way everyone is covered, but the wealthy can get special treatment (by paying extra) (like nice flowers or single room or whatever). Why be wealthy if you can't treat yourself?
I imagine you're like all the teenagers who I went to college with, the most sensible contribution they could bring to any political discussion was 'the Conservatives are wankers' or 'Margaret Thatcher was a cunt' but if asked they could Never give a reason for their views. Now for the sake of my faith in humanity, tell me, why is Hannan a wanker?
Daniel Hannan is a ideological, neo conservative, suburban, upper middle class cunt. Especially in the post credit crunch world his views have no credibility.
@cook119 That comment is classic, dictionary-definition bigotry. U offer NO factual rationale for 1 thing u say. U attack Hannan in a 100% ad hominem, personalised manner. Ur use of an expletive derives from a frustrating inability 2 explain ur "points," merely suggesting a mass of feelings vomited onto a typewriter. U do not need to AGREE with someone to say that they are a good person, politician, speaker, etc. Clearly this is beyond u. Dear Lord, PLEASE tell me u are not of voting age!!!!
@johnlalor Yes I do attack him personally I do look down on him I have a bigotry towards people of such blind ignorance and unwavering ideology. I could plan out an attack on his views but today I choose not to. My use of expletives derives from from the character of the person described.
@cook119 I'm sorry. You admit to having bigotry? I really don't know where to go with that. Flummoxed. Again, at the risk of repeating myself, you have not given one demonstrable point as to WHY Hannan is what you say he is; WHY he is wrong. I was never in any debating society, but I IMAGINE you need more to support your points than you presently deliver. I can only assume that you are incapable of such. Admit it, it's not your REASON with which his arguments conflict, but your FEELINGS.
@johnlalor Well yes I think some people are nobs, I can be bigoted towards them I suppose. He believes in the solely and almost it seems without exception in the market even after the credit crunch which is only the most public and well know the the market's failures. Its Hannans lack of reason that angers me he believes in the market even after its failures have been demonstrated because like many of the wealthy he benifits from it and that's why I hate people like him.
Dimflamingo, you had good service at the NHS, but I ask you: How many have NOT? How much did it cost the taxpayer? You cannot base policy on single (i.e. yours) cases. James Bartholomew, in The Welfare State We're In, explains in great detail how much the NHS costs and how many DIE because it its poor service. Again, your good expience means little to those dying from cancer who, in other countries, would have had faster, better service.
@cook119 UK has some of the worst cancer & stroke survival rates in Western World (NB congrats to Bulgaria for overtaking UK!). EVEN when taking into account ALL SES groups, the US is far superior to the UK on both counts. Diagnosis and treatment are far faster in the US. The support for the NHS can only be explained as being a quasi-religious, WWII-mentality, anti-capitalist death-trap. PS WHAT sort of mind argues that something is better "by 5 million miles"?! PPS I am not American.
@johnlalor Your right the NHS is not perfect but to suggest a Private alternative is insane. Its introducing market driven reforms such as target setting into the NHS that has caused so many of the problems. Out cancer survival rates are poor but that has little to do with anti-capitalism, your lucky to even get a diagnosis in the US i imagine if you don't have insurance.
@cook119 U say "market" reforms to the NHS has worsened it. There is no such THING as "market" reforms in a Sovietised system. That's like wardens in a Gulag putting comment cards on prisoners' beds. It's a pretense: True Believers willfully FOOLING each other that "customers" have "consumer rights." Targets, plans, rationing, etc created by bureaucrats...& u blame them on the FREE MARKET?? Amuse me: give me ONE source for ur facts about the US health system. ER? Grisham novels? Moore's "Sicko"?
@johnlalor Your use of the term sovietised to describe the NHS is ridiculous Churchill proposed socialised health care. You can introduce systems which replicate market conditions in an attempt to increase productivity and service that is what new labour did and it has cause problems not only with the NHS but with other public services too. If you don't have insurance in the states it causes delays, although the often find some way of paying for it so it's socialised to a degree anyway.
He may have some points. However our Island nation may not like it but we are stonger in than out. We are faced with new super powers India and China we are stronger united as Europe rather than just UK.
Hannan is one of the few politicians in Britain who actually appears to have an independent thought. Eloquent, principled and genuinely wanting the best for society as a whole.
pardeepsinguk - I am unconvinced as to your calibre as a lawyer. I am also slightly aghast as to your slightly rampant inverted snobbery. Others have mentioned that Hannan has no issues with NHS but the way it is run, the ideology behind it. Essentially he admires them for working so hard within an imperfect system.
@marshallmonty The ideology behind it is one of society and a duty to fellow citizens and human beings, thankfully in Britain anyone who argues with that is beyond the pale.
@cook119 The ideology of the nurses, doctors et al is, indeed, of society and its duty to fellow man. That is what society does, it brings out the best. The state, on the other hand, does not. What Hannan, and I, might argue is that the State has, in fact, proven an impediment to the NHS. Feeding in billions of pounds into a bureaucratic black hole without reform.
The implication that I might be morally bankrupt because I think the way the NHS is run is flawed is, to be frank, pretty indecent.
@marshallmonty What hannan wants to do is to replace the state who at least has a sense of public responsibility or can be held accountable to the people with the private sector who don't give even the smallest shit about anything other than profit (reference the sub-prime lending). The NHS is flawed nothing's going to be perfect I didn't say you were wrong about that but your apparant attack on the philosophy behind it is morally bankrupt.
@cook119 I won't deny that Hannan believes private companies can do things better than the state. But the core thrust is that big government is, ultimately, not sufficiently accountable. Smaller government is. An individual in a community is more accountable than Sir Humphrey or Ed Balls. As to NHS philosophy, provision of universal healthcare, few would say that was wrong. It's all about the method. Korea, Sweden, Germany, have an insurance premium system, statefunded. Better care.
@marshallmonty I don't understand the percieved difference in accountability between bigger government and small goverment in the UK the local councils are the most corrupt level of goverment where as the central goverment its under a lot more scrutiny. An individual in a community easily dodges accountability where as everyone's out to get the big guys. The only reason why the NHS isn't as good as it could be is because of market meddling.
@cook119 a) I'm delighted by the fact that you aren't some deranged looney (despite what some other comments suggest) b) I suppose we will have to agree to disagree (which I admit is a bit of a cop-out). When you look at local councils you see unaccountability, corruption and stupidity. When I look at local councils I see impotence and all the problems which emanate from that. Both views are perfectly valid. That's the beauty of politics etc. There is no definitive right way.
to get some good done, when 75% of our laws are made in the e.u. i'm sure he'd want to get as much influence as possible and merely being an MP is not the way to do that
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Good work done? All Hannan cares about is making cheap soundbites to get public attention.
Im a solicitor and let me tell you that the bulk of our laws that Europe makes don't affect us in anyway...i mean how often do you look at health and safety law?
Hannan....have you ever been to a state school? or been to a nhs hospital? or ever faced the possibility of loosing your home? NOOOO!!
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HANNANS BEEN CLAIMING IN HIS EXPENSES!

@bakersteven3 I am English and very well acquainted with UK politics.
Mr Hannan is a young, fearless and quite exceptional politician and is EXACTLY what the UK needs right now.....
Whilst Mr Cameron is undoubtedly doing an excellent job in difficult circumstances I believe Mr Hannan would in time be far and away more effective.

He has never done a days work in his life, as a career poltician he has NO TRANSFERABLE skills, hence why he is in the EU.

AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies Typical right wing narrative. No Dianne Abbott is a hypocrite and a racist. I am consitstent in my dislike of all politicians.
You off course ignore the facts, he is in the LOWEST tier of UK politics. You're off course correct, mind you (given your handle) you prefer to see rape victims forced to give birth. EVERYONE dies, I didn't say when did I ?? Yet, you'll be pleased that the tories will kil plenty of old people this year, that VAT rise was alovely weapon.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "LOWEST tier of UK politics"
Really? Representing the prosperous and productive and influential "south east England" interests in Europe......Hmm.
"you's prefer to see rape victims forced to give birth"
Haha..so now you put words into my mouth....that is ignorant as well as immature.
"EVERYONE dies..I didn't say when did I?"
The inference was right now...and your hasty backtracking is hardly convincing as well as being rather childish.
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies LOL, the turnout for the EU elections is about 30%, the tories got 800K votes, that's approx 12% of the electrorate...wow really really meaningfull. No one cares, that's the only reason he gets in. He's an embarrassment to the tories.
I assumed you were anti-abortion, the handle does rather infer it, apologise if incorrect.
Rest not worth commenting on...name calling.

@bakersteven3 "attack the National Health Service"
Why on earth should the NHS ...the second biggest employer in the world after Indian Railways....be immune to attack? They should surely be as efficient and accountable as any other tax payer funded organisation.
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies 3rd biggest employer, you forgot the Chinese army. He doesn't want the NHS to exist, he wants us to have the American system, and he lied about how A&E worked.
In comparison, the Amercian system is nearly 2.5 times more expensive (over 7K pp compared to 2.9K in the UK pp) and (16% GDP to 8.4 GDP), and has a larger percentage goes on adminsitration. So, in comparision the NHS is a cheaper and more streamlined than the Amercian system which he prmoted and glorified.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "So in comparison the NHS is a cheaper"
Adopting the American system would not mean an identical set up and the ultimate costs would be largely determined by the efficiency with which the system is run... In the UK there are many anomalies not least of which is that many doctors and surgeons simultaneously get a full 6 figure salary from (allegedly) working full time for the NHS whilst make a very considerable additional chunk from private medicine.

AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies Education and fat fingers are different, and I suffer from dyslexia (hence the occasional spelling error). I'm not going to argue abortion, as we won't get anywhere and not worth either of our time.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "I'm not going to argue abortion"
Of course not as it is impossible to defend the indefensible.
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies No, mad christians are indefensible and because they know better than the women, (they have no responsibility for the baby aswell), it's pure facist behaviour to force a women to have ababy because you've read a book.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "mad christians are indefensible"
Oh so you resort to make abortion into a religious issue..how original! Btw most religions are also just as opposed to rape, theft and murder as well..so does that make those crimes exclusively religious too?
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "its pure facist behaviour to force a women to have ababy"
Oh and it's somehow not "facist behaviour" to hire an abortionist (usually at the expense if ALL tax payers) to kill an "inconvenient" baby?
Btw if they can kill these babies prior to birth..why not afterwards too?
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@AbortionKillsBabies

a wonderfully contrary statement I must say.

But I'm bigoted for disliking politcians but you're not for diliking doctors trying to help women...lovely.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakers "a wonderfully contrary statement I must say"
Not really..just an honest one. All abortionists can in my opinion be tarred with the same brush..whereas those who seek political office vary tremendously in terms of whether or not they are there for the right or wrong reasons and motivations.
"Shall I critiizise your spelling.."
I know how to spell bigoted it was a typo..it was you who casted aspersions as to my standard of education..despite being unable to spell many various words
AbortionKillsBabies 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "doctors trying to help women"
The Hippocratic oath specifically refers to refraining from performing an abortion or euthenasia and indeed causing harm to anyone.......
"I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion."

@AbortionKillsBabies The patient is the women. END OFF.
You have no right to tell anyone else what to do with their body, perhaps we should bring back the death penalty, get rid of trials by jury...if you want to go back to the dark ages then go the whole way.
bakersteven3 7 months ago
@bakersteven3 "perhaps we should bring back the death penalty"
Haha..so you presumably see the death penalty for the very worst criminals as a retrograde step ("dark ages")...but NOT it seems the largely tax payer funded **death penalty** for some 200,000 British and totally innocent babies in the womb every single year.....
How bizarre!

David Hannan is a complete pratt - he once praised Iceland for its good economic sense - look at Iceland now.
He detests the NHS - well at least as a Conservative he is honest, most Tories simply pretent to support the NHS and would never use it because they are rich enough not to need it.
Whitbywatcher 8 months ago
@Whitbywatcher You're an idiot. Iceland has recovered from the crash well and are in a strong economic position now - much stronger, in fact, that most of the other countries affected by the crash. Largely because they're not part of the EU, which Hannan praised them for.
Also, detest is a very strong word, he's critical of the state the NHS is in (which is fair) and particularly opposed to the brainless New Labour tactic of throwing money at the service aimlessly in the hope it improves.
Pepotamo1985 8 months ago
@Pepotamo1985 Totally ignore the fact that Iceland hasn't paid off it's debts, mainly tobritish councils !! And (good conservative attitude here) refuses to do so.

Social conservatism and 'one nation' conservatism may not be branches of conservatism that you support or believe in but it currently works quite successfully and helps the populace to the greatest degree.
xxksaoXX 1 year ago 2
@xxksaoXX i am saying the senior Conservative members are not on the right.
If Labour are on the left and the Tories are on the left, who will give the population a real opposition?
Lib/Lab/Con have no real difference.
It's not healthy for democracy to have all the main parties on one side of the spectrum.
socialist Tories are damaging to democracy.
Tell me what "conservative values do these socialists in blue have?
MrGilles1990 1 year ago
@MrGilles1990 But the fact is the Tories are not on the left, they have become a lot more centrist in recent years but they are anything but left wing or socialist.
It would also not be healthy for democracy if a party like UKIP or the BNP came to power.
xxksaoXX 1 year ago
@xxksaoXX What's wrong with UKIP? they are pro-democracy that's why they support British independence!
The Tories have no conservative ideals any more.
I still do not understand your comparison with UKIP(right-wing) and the BNP(far-left)?
How is UKIP undemocratic?
MrGilles1990 1 year ago
@MrGilles1990 A couple are things are wrong with UKIP. For starters they are not pro-democracy otherwise they would acknowledge the referendum that took us into the EU which was unanimous 'Yes' and the second referendum that questioned the electorate about continued membership. Just because they are anti-EU it doesn't mean they are pro-democracy. Next they are filled with Racists and political jokes, Paul Wiffen, Frank Maloney, Gary Cartwright, Malcolm Pearson and to a lesser extent Nidgel Farag
xxksaoXX 1 year ago
@xxksaoXX We have never had a referendum on the "EU"
Which party has no racists in them?
Pearson and Farage have never said anything racist.
How long ago was this referendum?
10 years ago 5 years? it was 36 years i did not get the vote on the union.
The EU has changed a lot since the times of the eec.
Most people would like to gain independence, so why deny them their democratic right?
MrGilles1990 1 year ago
@MrGilles1990 Also they like to portray themselves as 'different' or an 'alternative' to the three main parties but quite frankly they are not. Nidgel Farage for example claimed £2 million of taxpayers money on top of his £64,000 salary which is disgusting. They, like the reactionary Republican Party in the USA dismisses Climate Change as some sort of Conspiracy which is nonsense when you actually look at the facts. They also associate themselves with racists in the EU.

xxksaoXX 1 year ago
@xxksaoXX what right right policies do they have?
They are basically old labour with a racist policies.
What did Farage do with this 2 million did he spend it for himself? NO!
They have a different view on global warming so what? PS climate change has been going on for billions of years.
Labour associate themselves with national socialists, Tories with racist Poles Lib-dems with EU-nationalists.
Again how is UKIP undemocratic?
How is the BNP far-right wing?
MrGilles1990 1 year ago
@MrGilles1990 I suggest you read, A day to make history'? The 2004 elections and the British National Party by David Renton, Changing course or changing clothes? Reflections on the ideological evolution of the British National Party 1999-2006 (Patterns of Prejudice) by Nigel Copsey , Contemporary British Fascism: The British National Party and the Quest for Legitimacy by Palgrave Macmillan.

Dear Lord, PLEASE tell me u are not of voting age!!!!
johnlalor 1 year ago
@johnlalor Yes I do attack him personally I do look down on him I have a bigotry towards people of such blind ignorance and unwavering ideology. I could plan out an attack on his views but today I choose not to. My use of expletives derives from from the character of the person described.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 I'm sorry. You admit to having bigotry? I really don't know where to go with that. Flummoxed. Again, at the risk of repeating myself, you have not given one demonstrable point as to WHY Hannan is what you say he is; WHY he is wrong. I was never in any debating society, but I IMAGINE you need more to support your points than you presently deliver. I can only assume that you are incapable of such. Admit it, it's not your REASON with which his arguments conflict, but your FEELINGS.
johnlalor 1 year ago

Again, your good expience means little to those dying from cancer who, in other countries, would have had faster, better service.
johnlalor 1 year ago
@johnlalor How many die because of poor service
? Not many. Its not ideal but its better than the US system by five million miles. We live longer that you in the US.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 UK has some of the worst cancer & stroke survival rates in Western World (NB congrats to Bulgaria for overtaking UK!). EVEN when taking into account ALL SES groups, the US is far superior to the UK on both counts. Diagnosis and treatment are far faster in the US. The support for the NHS can only be explained as being a quasi-religious, WWII-mentality, anti-capitalist death-trap. PS WHAT sort of mind argues that something is better "by 5 million miles"?! PPS I am not American.
johnlalor 1 year ago
@johnlalor Your right the NHS is not perfect but to suggest a Private alternative is insane. Its introducing market driven reforms such as target setting into the NHS that has caused so many of the problems. Out cancer survival rates are poor but that has little to do with anti-capitalism, your lucky to even get a diagnosis in the US i imagine if you don't have insurance.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 U say "market" reforms to the NHS has worsened it. There is no such THING as "market" reforms in a Sovietised system. That's like wardens in a Gulag putting comment cards on prisoners' beds. It's a pretense: True Believers willfully FOOLING each other that "customers" have "consumer rights." Targets, plans, rationing, etc created by bureaucrats...& u blame them on the FREE MARKET?? Amuse me: give me ONE source for ur facts about the US health system. ER? Grisham novels? Moore's "Sicko"?
johnlalor 1 year ago

Essentially he admires them for working so hard within an imperfect system.
marshallmonty 1 year ago
@marshallmonty The ideology behind it is one of society and a duty to fellow citizens and human beings, thankfully in Britain anyone who argues with that is beyond the pale.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 The ideology of the nurses, doctors et al is, indeed, of society and its duty to fellow man. That is what society does, it brings out the best. The state, on the other hand, does not. What Hannan, and I, might argue is that the State has, in fact, proven an impediment to the NHS. Feeding in billions of pounds into a bureaucratic black hole without reform.
The implication that I might be morally bankrupt because I think the way the NHS is run is flawed is, to be frank, pretty indecent.
marshallmonty 1 year ago
@marshallmonty What hannan wants to do is to replace the state who at least has a sense of public responsibility or can be held accountable to the people with the private sector who don't give even the smallest shit about anything other than profit (reference the sub-prime lending). The NHS is flawed nothing's going to be perfect I didn't say you were wrong about that but your apparant attack on the philosophy behind it is morally bankrupt.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 Hannan is an arsehole...Sorry, but he is...
Indul1 1 year ago
@cook119 I won't deny that Hannan believes private companies can do things better than the state. But the core thrust is that big government is, ultimately, not sufficiently accountable. Smaller government is. An individual in a community is more accountable than Sir Humphrey or Ed Balls. As to NHS philosophy, provision of universal healthcare, few would say that was wrong. It's all about the method. Korea, Sweden, Germany, have an insurance premium system, statefunded. Better care.
marshallmonty 1 year ago
@marshallmonty I don't understand the percieved difference in accountability between bigger government and small goverment in the UK the local councils are the most corrupt level of goverment where as the central goverment its under a lot more scrutiny. An individual in a community easily dodges accountability where as everyone's out to get the big guys. The only reason why the NHS isn't as good as it could be is because of market meddling.
cook119 1 year ago
@cook119 a) I'm delighted by the fact that you aren't some deranged looney (despite what some other comments suggest) b) I suppose we will have to agree to disagree (which I admit is a bit of a cop-out). When you look at local councils you see unaccountability, corruption and stupidity. When I look at local councils I see impotence and all the problems which emanate from that. Both views are perfectly valid. That's the beauty of politics etc. There is no definitive right way.
