This song has a magical potency which is hard to define. The sheer quality of the music puts ABBA on a par with the great songwriters of classical music such as Schubert, Richard Strauss and Tchaikovsky albeit the sound and the style of music are totally different. Talking of Tchaikovsky, do I detect something Russian like a balalaika playing in the background?

One of my favourite ABBA songs. Amazes me how quality music like this has only had just over 657,000 views, and yet rubbish like Lady Gaga has over 300 million!!! Will people still be listening to her in 30 years...errrrrrr no!!
@anthonyroberthill sorry my English is not good. I think if youtube had existed in the 80's, and showing videos of ABBA would require mathematical exponents, for how many people see ABBA. right?
@anthonyroberthill i really love abba and this song, but i dont understand the nature of your post. this song came out 30+ years ago, rendering it unexposed to todays listeners, who are exposed to lady gaga and other "rubbish" more frequently. if this was 30 years ago, this song and other abba songs probably would have 300 million views, because it was new then. And why put gaga down? its possible to like both, and i bet in 30 years people will be listening to her, and this alike. hater.
@livelovepotter I don't understand the nature of your post either! What do u mean that Abba is unexposed to todays listeners..???? They're plenty of radio stations that are not shackled to the charts and play are variety of music form the 60's, 70's etc... Gaga was put down because she purely uses sex to sell his/her songs, if she were truly talented then she wouldn't need to resort to wearing next to nothing all the time. Hater!
how does one know a song or a group is outstanding? when you never get tired of hearing their music. such is ABBA, along with other groups such as the 4 seasons. elo, etc. Good music is indeed MAGIC. did u know that harvard university did a study and concluded that music can affect your mind just like illegal drugs that some people think they need to get a high?
Guys, I remember when I used to listen to this masterpiece song with some friends.
Unfortunately two of them have died but Jorge who was a big fan of Dione Warwick used to cry a lot everytime I played "One Of Us" - The truth is that he was a real crybaby but Jorge has admited several times that even Dione could never convey so much emotion in a song. The five of us used to be in the living room sitting in the floor listening to this song for several times. Oh! I want those days back.
Fin Gudo naame teno. Kal wudo ben ti. E wudo tu calco a suo faco. Fin tu ki faco con alen suo glori. Ke tu perunti fin teno tu giusto ona kezuto, :DDDD
So much sadness in their eyes, reflects the mood in the lyrics, a beautiful song, so well presented by Abba in a way in which only they could carry off.

You were so kind to me. Thank you very much, but I only write what I really feel.
With regards to ABBA, of course their talent and their music have conquered whole world but it is plain to see that their simplicity helped them too. @Elluskivs - I do agree with you, I so much love them, their music, the lyrics, the two girls so charming and talented, No sophistication of any kind is needed when there is so much to say and to show in beauty and simplicity. I can't get bored listening to them relentlessly. Sweeden is a magnificent country, with very kind people and an amazing proportion of beautifull bleu eyed and blond girls. This group is emblematic of this country's charm.
Everytime I listen to this song I think I'll die of emotion. I hate to cry but it is impossible to hold the tears when I listen to this song. It is so beautiful, so emotional that it could be a symphony. The girls sing it in a way that only ABBA is able to do. Can't stop loving this song - Impossible to forget ABBA.
when I first saw this and seen Frida I though oh no whats she done to her hair, sorry but this look, and she kept it for years did not suit her at all,
i've grown up listening to their songs and actually learning english from them, although abba are not native speakers, and my childhood was in the 90s
I always found this to be among their most heartbreaking songs...I think the grief is quite genuine here, and it transpires, musically as well as lyrically. Awesome.
This is one of my favourite ABBA songs, I think is perfect in all senses, but not very well known, so!! This happens to many good artists, best songs are sometimes those which are not very well known, like this one.
It was rutger gunnerson, just the best, complicated bass lines for a bass player to follow, full of octaves and vitality, just listen to 'put on your white sombrero'and take in all the accentuations etc, just class!
I have followed his playing since the seventies,i am now a retired 54 year old bass player and learning all the while, love Frida also!

Rats! I forgot to use my thesaurus to write "...wise use of the tuba EFFECT by Rutger Gunnarsson..and he mandolin EFFECT..." Don't get out much, & us guys in the woods, well, we're not tech-minded & all, so we just compliment the musicians and singers on the quality we hear & how it affects us...sorry..will try to do better next time.
One of the best songs ever written. Too many memories that brings me to tears. Knowing that it will one day turn into tears and living to see the end is just too hearbreaking.
@TheTowerBridgeFox RE: the tuba. If you listen closely you'll hear that it's the synthesizer. But I agree it's a great use of that tone color. These guys were master arrangers.
I can agree that "The Winner Takes It All" is one of their best songs for its total composition, but "One of Us" is the one that follows and haunts me every single day. The wise use of the tuba gives me a "carnival" sensation, and the sound of mandolins gives a longing for Italy. The genius songwriting coupled with what I believe to be the most brilliant pair of voices for leading vocals in music history will never be equaled. Not even close.

I was born in 1980 and used to listen to Abba in the back of my mum and dads car in the middle 1980's. Now I LOVE Abba! x x x x Thanks mom and dad :-)
Love Benny and Bjorn's song writng and composing talents even though it was the girls voices that made ABBA truly special ....if i could play and write music it would be like Benny and Bjorn probably more then any other musical artists outside maybe John Lennon.
Great craftsmen and great singers. The perfect pop-package. They are the top pop band of the 70´s without a doubt. Timeless music. The number of world-class hits they produced is unbelievable really........
The song is beautiful. In the original video are all sad: I think it was the intention, but in reality was not different.. ABBA as 2 couples in life finally ended. And shortly afterwards, in music. too. But the music remained, and we are here. Everything is changing and we did. Move on......... Nicely done. Keep well. (I was an ABBA teenager too)
Beautifull song, beatifull ladys, Anni and Agnetha, i was in love for them, in my youth, well i think i still in love rigth now, dammit i'm married...
This was one of my favourite songs and I was only 9 years old at that time! I'm now 38 and still love Abba! I loved this song so much that dear dad would listen to this song every day with me, bless his cotton socks, pressing play/pause so I could write down the lyrics (& then he taped me singing it! oh gawd!). Memories. I will have to ask him to see if he remembers!
Anyone who says they don't like ABBA are losers. They think they're "cool" saying ABBA sucks. ABBA are true Lyricists and musicians, just listen to the words to the songs. They all tell a story. I Love Them
I think there are more closet ABBA fans, than admitted fans. My car broke down years ago, and my male boss who was all Tony Soprano like badass picked me up. He had ABBA on his tape deck playing "Super Trouper".
I was like OMG.
I don't think they will get back together, kind of like the Smiths-if they both get back together I think we can safely say -The end is near.
anmaree: I would suggest that you tell your "music snob friends" that being unable to appreciate ABBA is like being unable to appreciate Mozart. And if you cannot appreciate Mozart, you would be well adviced to not speak of music at all.
ABBA is one of those very few bands that didn't broke up because they ran out of succes, but because things didn't worked good among them and they took the right decision...
There will be a love in your life that will change everything else, Agnetha has done that in my life. She is the dream I will never get, the eyes I will never see, the woman I will never get to touch like a lover would.
This is a fantastic song, one of ABBA's best. I always enjoy listening to it.

This song is just a shadow of Agnetha's real life, sweet angel; the most beautiful woman.

The wise use of the tuba ?
TheTowerBridgeFox 11 months ago

I Love Them
csk122 1 year ago
@csk122 -
I think there are more closet ABBA fans, than admitted fans.

Despertar en la noche y tratar de encontrarla sabiéndola tan lejos. Cuan grande es mi ensueño, cuan grande mi angustia, Agnetha.

anmaree: I would suggest that you tell your "music snob friends" that being unable to appreciate ABBA is like being unable to appreciate Mozart. And if you cannot appreciate Mozart, you would be well adviced to not speak of music at all.

This song is about ABBA's breakup...

Everyone who loves ABBA (even if only on certain occasions, LOL) should watch "Muriel's Wedding". It's so much better than Mamma Mia!!!
