Robinson fought. Not all the time but he fought, especially during bench-clearing brawls, esp. to settle scores. He stopped fighting altogether when he met his match and got beat hard.

Huchison beat the living shit out of him and gave him a shiner in a fight that Larry actually started defending a teammate, and Huchison wanted no part of him. Frankly even the so called top dogs are big pussies these days. I've seen some of them surrendering during fights just because they're losing. I think that's the fear of getting hit. I like your point and I think PJ Stock was a cult hero because he was willing to trade. His fight with the Caps Stephen Peat was one of the best fights I've ever seen. Certainly the best fight since the mid 80's. Stock wasn't the biggest, nor the toughest, but his willingness to trade and his heart never giving up, made him a beloved fighter. He was never even the best fighter on his team, but certainly was one of the most entertaining in the league.

That's because Nilan was cowardly. Compare the Habs players in the 70s and the way they fought compared to Nilan and the guys in the 70s were real no bullshit fighters guys like Tremblay, Bouchard, Risebrough, Robinson, etc...
I'm a Habs fan but always hated the way Nilan was fighting. He was a coward and paved the way for a new style of fighting. I think to get a successful fight the two guys have to not be afraid getting hit. Cause when you let one hit you, then you can dish one out too.

I remember the Bruins pummelling the Habs in the 70's. Wensink and Lupien, Jonathan killing Bouchard....The Bruins teams of the 70's may be the toughest team of all-time. Some Flyers teams were close, and the Isles also had a very tough team in the late 70's early 80's.

Robinson fought. Not all the time but he fought, especially during bench-clearing brawls, esp. to settle scores. He stopped fighting altogether when he met his match and got beat hard.

Huchison beat the living shit out of him and gave him a shiner in a fight that Larry actually started defending a teammate, and Huchison wanted no part of him. Larry Robinson NEVER IN HIS CAREER fought Terry O'Reilly or Clark Gillies! Yes, he mauled Dave Schultz once. Here's a list of Bruin opponents: He killed Bobby Schmautz on Oct 25th 1975, he scuffled with Jonathan April 1st 1977(double minors), he beat Mike Millbury twice once on April 5th 1980 & on April 4th 1984, and Louis Sleigher twice-both fights on April 9th 1986.
Also, Larry got TKO'd by Wilf Paiement on Oct. 23rd 1982.

Frankly even the so called top dogs are big pussies these days. I've seen some of them surrendering during fights just because they're losing. I think that's the fear of getting hit. So they spend time wrestling a guy just so they can hit a guy without getting hit in return. But that's not how that works. You should be able to take it so you can dish it out. That's what a fight is supposed to be about. The best fights are two guys going all out, even if you don't have a face afterwards. lol

I like your point and I think PJ Stock was a cult hero because he was willing to trade. His fight with the Caps Stephen Peat was one of the best fights I've ever seen. Certainly the best fight since the mid 80's. Stock wasn't the biggest, nor the toughest, but his willingness to trade and his heart never giving up, made him a beloved fighter. He was never even the best fighter on his team, but certainly was one of the most entertaining in the league.

Langdon was underrated, but he wasn't great. He didn't beat top 10 fighters on a regular basis like Richter did! Richter fought O'Reilly, Kocur, Probert and McSorley and never lost one of those fights. That's poretty impressive.

Simon had one fluke year with 29 goals, just like Probert...but he was a decent player. He probably could have been a consistant 20 goal scorer if he concentrated more on playing than fighting.

Nilan was tough enough, but he was a real dirty s.o.b., stick in the face, run you head first from behind. Could score 15-20 goals, but I never liked the guy. KOCUR RULES. Toughest of all-time (ask anyone who got hit my his right hand-or left hook)

Kocur had the hardest punch of all-time, but he is not the best fighter ever. Dave Richter pummeled him! Kocur had trouble fighting taller opponents. He lost to Hal Gill for Christ's sake! But when he fought guys his height, he smashed them. I'd rate him about 4th all-time behind Probert, Brown and Behn Wilson. Best punch ever though..no doubt. (you have to disqualify Twist for Roids. Twist killed people after he juiced!

2) Ricter KILLED Kocure-it wasn't even close.
3)Wilson was not a spot picker, and he beat the shit out of Gillies when they fought Oct.25th,1980! Wilson dropped him twice with uppercuts! They fought 1 other time and Gillies was winning but got caught with a punch and slipped and Wilson landed on top.

No he didn't! LMAO The first time they ever fought, Twist won, but they fought again in the same game and Gino killed him in the second fight. It was 2/18/91. (that was also pre-steroids Twist who weighed a strapping 210 lbs in the media guide)

Hey, I was at the game, in row 3 behind the sin bins. I told Tony he looked terrible. Get a haircut. Gino heard it and laughed. So did my section. All good fun. I don't remember Gino ever getting beat badly though.

I never liked Nilan, but I give him due...he fought all the tough ones and did well. Technically a very sound fighter. He had guts. A dirty, nasty, chippy SOB, but he was tough, and anybody who denies that knows nothing about hockey fighting. Great bouts with Jay Miller. Got hammered by Playfair, but came back again, and again..
