The only reason that we did not win the Vietnam War was we were not willing to conquer and occupy the entire region indefinitely. When I say the entire region I mean all of vietnam, Laos, cambodia and probably Thailand. We could have conquered Iraq except we are concerned about civilian deaths. A full scare war to it's conclusion would have resulred in the deaths of hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of civiliams. war is not a game. People are killed every day.

Now granted, the French help the US gain its freedom. However, if the US didn't exist, the French would be speaking German, while if France didn't exist, we would still be speaking English. Losing 6% of the population doesn't mean your better than us. It means that more French people died.

I agree that the violent attitude does not come from the French culture. I believe the violent attitude comes from human nature itself (particularly in males). That is more or less my point. No race or culture is weaker or stronger than another. We all just find ourselves in one situation or another where one action suits our best interests better. The American mentality would be significantly different if we found ourselves in the circumstances of the French.

The only reason that we did not win the Vietnam War was we were not willing to conquer and occupy the entire region indefinitely. When I say the entire region I mean all of vietnam, Laos, cambodia and probably Thailand. We could have conquered Iraq except we are concerned about civilian deaths. A full scare war to it's conclusion would have resulred in the deaths of hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of civiliams. war is not a game. People are killed every day.

The Soviets and Communist China made it clear that if we invaded North Vietnam they would get involved. The war would have lasted a lot longer, and tons more casualties. So full "conquest" of Vietnam was out of the question.
