@MargaritasAntesPorco Saying something and or someone is a "Gay-Fail", damn near 40 yrs after the fact, just shows how much of an Idiot & a Child you are. Grow the fuck up! For shit's sake, it is the 21st century!!
Lol I only searched this cuz it's in the book I'm reading lol it's really pretty good... The book I mean... And the song lol the book is called "half brother" by Kenneth oppel the same person who wrote fire wing and stuff if you wanna read it
I was eight years old, watchign the contest on Israeli TV and thought that Agnetta was the most beautiful woman in the world, especially with these sparkling dots on her cheeks that made a huge impression on me.
I wonder if he looked at the name Agnetha and said to himself "I can't pronounce that.. I'll just call her Anna!". And he mixed up Benny and Björn too. Haha!
@HeathenMaiden I noticed that too. Then I saw an interview on YouTube by a talk show host with Benny after a performance where Benny introduced Agnetha as "Anna" and Anna-Frid of course as Frida. Maybe they asked the announcer to introduce her by her nickname "Anna" or maybe he just said whatever.
In 1971, there was a council in heaven, and a bunch of angels came up to god and said: god, look, some demons are down there and they are not doing that much wrong, but they're kind of messing up things a little and getting it on their side. Give us permission, and let us come down there, we're gonna pretend to be four guys from sweden, and try to balance things a little, you know, to let them know what's our deal up here. And god said: ok, but just ten years, and look after them onwards.
@sirdelrio after all is not such a crazy theory, after all, what does 'abba' mean? isnt that how jesus would reffer to the heavenly father? we've been all these years thinking they were human. they were angels making propaganda for heaven! (btw, this is a poetic vision of mine, i'm not serious)
I'm convinced that during the seventies, angels and demons took a vacation from their eternal battle and descended to earth to share a bit, and live in friendship and love. The senventies was a magic and supernatural epoch, and the more i see artists from that time, i get convinced they were either not human, or were being helped by angels or demons. In this case, cherubims and archangels are not fooling anyone.

For once (or for seconce --- if you count Does Your Mother Know --- )i do think, really do, tBjörn is a great singer, at least his harmonysinging is great in this one.
Fantastic song; up there with Mamma Mia, Knowing Me knowing You, Dancing Queen, When I Kissed the Teacher, Angel Eyes and As Good As New.
One hell of a Reliable Hit-group, and for Voulez-Vous a good album-making group.
@SthlmHenrik In the Eurovision it always has to be real voices, it's against the rules to alter voices, then again that's why some songs can sound terrible, not this though!
@SthlmHenrik but no-one acepts fat but good singing people in our times because all want the "best" but the best is only a mask. Behind the mask are only normal people no-one would like to see :-(
Italian song "Si" was better than Abba's Waterloo. But Abba is a classic, and they did better songs after Waterloo. Apart from that, at first Abba chose "Hasta Mañana" (best song for me) to perform for Eurovision, but they did prefer it finally.
The narrator introduces Agnetha as "Anna." Benny explained to Dick Clark while introducing the others on Bandstand that "Anna" is "Lilisha" so that is why Benny introduced Agnetha to Dick as "Anna" while Anna-Frid was known as "Frida." I'm not sure I get all that.
Question: Why don't they sing in Swedish? I thought back then, they had to sing in a mother tongue of their hone country. Only when a group won the Eurovision and presented the winning song again, I heard English versions in the early days of the Eurovision. Could someone explain?
@Atticus70 Very simple, actually. English-language songs sell in the US, non-English songs don't. And the US market drives the world music market..............at least it did at the time.
ABBA is a great case in point. Singing in English broke them in the US, they went on to reap a fortune. Had they sung in Swedish, they would have never broke America and would have never become famous.
@KayJayHP They were doing quite well in Sweden, Finland, UK and Australia before they "broke" America. As I recall it, they only had one number one hit in America (Dancing Queen) vs nine in the UK. By that time the people in Australia were already going nuts! So taking cred for making ABBA famous-well I think that´s a bit steep. But by using English you´ve got the possibility to reach a much bigger audience, I give you that. Good music ALWAYS brake through and then stay forever and ever!
@Atticus70 There were some years when exceptions were made and countries could perform in any language they wanted. It was later changed to the native language only. Now, of course, the language is free again. Abba started performing in Swedish, before Eurovision, but after fame hit them, they performed almost entirely in English.
@Atticus70 Wiki: The language restriction continued until 1973, when it was lifted and performers were again allowed to sing in any language they wished.
Waterloo? uhm...i guess that's been their biggest hit in France. Joking apart Eurofestival has been always a ridicule farse and still it's. But in my opinnion not in that - rare - occasion.
THANK YOU Thank you!! BIG big SMILE from the LoVe Islands in the Arctic!:oD
I was just turned 5, and I was allowed to see the Eurovision Song Contest. We had a black white tv, but I was sold! From that day I was a ABBA-fan, and my brothers knew what to give me each year for Xmas. The new album.
In retrospect, not the strongest song they had, but it made them famous!
They are very nervous with this version. If you compare it with the end of transmission winning performance. Agnetha vocals are much louder than Frida's during the performance and it is the perfect key for her voice as she certainly belts it out!!!!
Did anyone notice that at the beginning, the guy gets Benny and Björn mixed up? Funny! And that little dance Agnetha does from 2:43 to 2:46 is so cute! Though alot of things Agnetha does is cute!
