Muhammed Ali, the man who had the move - life moves. He talked it and walked it - true to his convictions - hated by many but loved by multitudes more. Peace
Ali was ann entertainer as well, he talked to get the people looking at him. Besides how ofen before that had you ever seen a black man talk about how good he looks? That made others evaluate how they were seen as well as how they felt about themselves.
@andrewr62 Hmmm so despite the " great Black champions" that came before Jack Johnson all it took was his so called "arrogant" behavior to set back the Black cause? LOL Total nonsense. Silly, insecure little boys couldn't control their rage at seeing a Black man as heavy weight champ or a Black man successful period. That's all.
He was a great technical boxer who understood salesmanship AND showmanship. I only hope that his family is able to take care of him. Did i mention that he was a great comic, too?
I had to defend Ali's changing his name to a bus full of rednecks in Montana in the 60s, when I was too young to know what a bad idea it was to even be there as a hippie! But I'd do it again.
And I'm not lying! Muhammad Ai was manufactured! Jack Johnson is the greatest fighter of all times, because he ignitied the 1st global race war when he defeated the racism of Jim Jefferies on July 4th 1910! If you want to know my bio on boxing then see American Trash Part 1, here on youtube. It's a doctoral thesis on boxing. What was the spiritual mission of Muhammad Ali for The West? You can find it in the book of Revelations 13:18! It's the message of Elijah Muhammad for his nation of Islam!
@AquariusCampio Get real. The Johnson v Jeffries fight did not create a global race war. It did create a disturbance in this country but certainly not a war. At it wasn't the
racism of Jeffries but the racial views that were prevalent of that time. In truth Johnson's arrogance set black athletes back for decades. The black press and black churches of his time were very critical of Johnson's behavior. Don't take my word read
@andrewr62 Johnson's arrogance??? Most successful athletes are arrogant. Most successful men can be arrogant. Those STUPID white people of that era couldn't deal with a Black man being heavy weight champ period. Johnson didn't give a damn about the stupid, insecure little boys, getting their feelings hurt. As far as the scared Negroes of the time condemning his behavior, those were the types that just wanted to go along and get along, always looking to appease their "massa". They were pathetic.
@ANCIENTMYS I disagree. Johnson's behavior set back the black cause in many fields for at least 20 years. There were great black champions and fighters before Jack Johnson who were loved and resprect by all Americans. Men like Joe Gan's (who also was married to a white woman), Peter Jackson, Joe Jeanette and later Harry Wills were not "uncle toms" but unlike Johnson were men of dignity. And there is a difference between a confident champion and an arrogant one a la Ali /Johnson
@ANCIENTMYS Thats not how it works man... The ones who went along to appease their "massa" were simply playing their part. Waiting for times & history to change is an important part of life and those who have to "suck it up" for the next generation often do without saying anything. They simply watch & wait, knowing their sons & daughters will have a beter shot than they did. Think about it.....
That's not a moon walk! It's a shuffle! There's a difference! The moon walk moves in directions & the shuffle is stationary! I know, because I upset Leon Spinks by breaking the famous Spinks Jinxs, in my 10th fight, the year before he fought Muhammad Ali! I was The Ballet Boxer! A legitimate classsical dancer who upset the world champion & it never was shown to the American public, because it would have ruined a multi million dollar staged event! I had 10 months experience and 9 fights!
Coporal, You seem to have a good understanding of the situation back then. I am not mad at Ali. I just like Joe better. That last fight was terrible and changed my atitude about fighting. They beat the hell out of each other and either one of those great men could have been seriously hurt or killed. They were both awesome atheletes. Most people could not even fathom what it is like to be hit in the face by a heavy weight boxer. The world is a better place because of people like them.
I don't know about a black man calling another black man a gorilla for the entertainment of white people. White people thought he was quite funny. A lot like a minstrel show.
@BigMikeatChicago1 It was a way to sell his product at the expense of others. It was another time and another place and he and Joe Frazier sold tickets and made money. It hurt Joe and they made amends as older men, but it's no worse than the circus acts of the MMA crap or the Wrestling crap. Ali proved his mettle in the ring and through his beliefs. He as many of us made misstakes and will continue to do so.
@newislandguitar ..I AM AN ALI FAN, AND A BRUCE LEE FAN, DON'T COMPARE IDIOT!!! TWO DIFFERENT KIDS OF FIGHTING, BRIUCE LEE WAS THE MAN!!! AND ALI WAS TOO... WHY COMPARE... UR A JERK!!! LOL
@ChristyLove816 you obviously has some serious emotional issues and more issues about being an adult. 1st of all I was'nt talking to you..the name calling only shows me your family tree issues as well "good parents-intelligent offspring..bad parents?..well...we get YOU :/p.s. only an "idoit" does not compare-get off yt and get a life..maybe even a jb...McDonalds doest count.you obviously know nothing about fighting-btw..Bruce Lee compared himself to Ali-does this make him an idiot too? Jackass!
@blueman2bass I couldn't have put it better myself.. I'm sure the poster of this clip (SergeantHighway) already knew this BUT in this new digital crazed world with emphasis on getting 'hits' on You Tube, there fewer combinations that come to mind than tying Ali to MJJ.. Summary... "I couldn't say it any better .. well put".
To get a better look, so you wouldn't have to replay the clip yourself (because you know if it only played once you'd replay it to make sure he really was that fast on his feet!).
