Actually , more lack of history training apparent. The overall commander was General Omar Bradley, NOT "the Navy" ! You had to have Coast Guard help at running those Higgins boats bub ...no "bullet sponge " here..never was as stupid as a sailor boy, remembered to dodge them.
That "short bus" was haze grey, and packed full of swabbies that stopped at the Main Gate to be inspected by Marines, clown.

That reserve commish was earned after coming up thru the ranks.I have no doubt that Americans trapped on foreign soil would far rather see US Marines storming the place to liberate them , than look at those pretty boats in the bay with sailors watching the Marines do the job.
Another mistake you made...the USMC is listed as an "elite Force" by Janes..the ENTIRE Corps, as in special forces. THAT makes us rated "better" BTW, your Popeye cartoon is on now.

@NamVetBuck Too defend the comment below, the Marines technically wouldn't exist if the Navy didn't. Since the title of Marine was given to soldiers who served on Man of War vessels, essentially a simplified way of saying "Marine Soldier"
