Russian series is the best by far,I highly recommend it. You can buy complete set on Amazon and it comes with English subs, as far as I know - but make sure you check.

This is the best russian Sherlock holmes video i've seen :D . . . best any Sherlock Holmes video i've seen. The scenes you use are lovely. Most especially the one of Holmes's return and Watson's hug. I love your choice of music as well. Very fitting. Especially considering how similarly dramatic the show's own theme is. Also. A small question. So how did you get the subtitles off? Or perhaps you watched it in russian and understood just fine *jealous* XD

I love this piece of music, it is called Sarabande and is by Handel. The unfortunate thij g is that it is only about 2 1/2 min. long. Handle should have expanded this sad and beautiful piece into something much greater. This version is taken from the Kubrick movie Barry Lyndon.

This actor makes a very good Sherlock indeed. I can't say that he my heart makes stop beating faster by seeing Jeremy Bretts Sherlock, but I thing that this russian series has a nicer script and scenarios than the granada series with J. I've seen all the episodes of these series with Vasily Livanov and Vitaly Solomin because my g/friend had them, she's from Russia.

Queen Elizabeth from England pointed Vasily Livanov as the best Sherlock Holmes! THe best part is that, these series were made during the Soviet times but they made all efforts to made it look like English as possible. Ochen Kharasho!

I want you to know that Jeremy Brett, Burke and Hardwick are the ultimate Holmes/Watson to me but the homecoming scene 2:04-2:09 was so awesome, so emotional. I was crying right along with them.

I got the dvds with english subtitles this summer: I cannot say how happy I am. This Russian serie is fantastic indeed, in every way: the actors, the screenplay, the dialogues...it's such a pleasure to watch it!

I bought them on amazon: I needed to own these (I hate to make this as if it was an advertise, but that is what I did!). But I saw all the episode subtitled here on youtube, uploaded by youtuber Igorzee. Unfortunately they were deleted with his/her account, but there are still many around here. Try to watch my russian SH playlist on my yotube page...and hurry up! ^__^

p.s. of course I had since 2006 all the dvds of the Granada serie...

Livanov and Solomin are the best! They look like Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe from the Pet Shop Boys! Most American directors made the same mistake. They thought that Watson was an old man, older than Holmes. How the hell did he get married to a young girl? Watson was a young handsome doctor who had served in the army. Solomin is the best Watson that the world has ever seen! And don't dare compare Livanov to others!
