Very nice. Crispy beats and meaty fills... lol. I was just researching this product for my home studio when I found this vid. Being a drummer myself I have to say excellent tuning man. Now I know what my tuned drums will sound like on this product. Course I'm a DW guy but still Gretsch is incredible as well. Curious though.. they are maple drums correct? And did you record directly in or use any external preamp? Thanks for the vid! Happy drumming!
Hey thanks a bunch for the kind words. I recorded using the Presonus FP10 interface. It has 8 mic pre's built in. They're really good pre's for the money.
I am a musician ( play guitar, drums, sing, almost everything xD ).., and im studying sound engineer.
Im interest on making my small homestudio, to start recording and practicing more at home. A own also a laptop ( hp dv2915 ) , and i see that it has a firewire port ( it says " port 1394 ", i know this is firewire but the conector is " 4 pin" , and the connector of that interface is " 6 pin ", but is there any problem with that ?
The laptop I recorded this on in this video has a 4 pin firewire connector too, so I just bought a 6pin to 4pin firewire cable. No problems at all. I also have a PCIMCA card that has two 6pin ports too so I could do it either way but I did just use the 4 pin just fine.
Sick drumming man and You did a wonderful job with capturing the drum sounds. Just goes to show you its not always about the gear... Its about the engineer. Alot of people have been asking what Mics you uses and I am curious as well. ( Also as a side note... If youd ever be down for an internet jam let me know. Id love to try to send some music around and have different musicians collab on it... )
Yes and the Presonus interfaces (they have several similar models with diff names) are quite portable too. Great for location work. For live band recording I rely on an Alesis HD24 which I love also. I really like the pre-amps on the FP10 and simplicity, flexibility, power and portability of the unit......AND a great price.
At one time I was gunna get a Yamaha 01V96VCM with optical output card and the HD24 but in the end I found the FP10 or Firestudio Project to both be a better choice for my setup.
Those are mostly Superlux microphones. I had a couple of Audio Technica mini mics on my two? rack toms. You can see only one mini because a Saxophonist buddy of mine stopped by my recording studio and borrowed it (it's a clip on) to play a gig that night so I used another Superlux. Superluxes are hard to find. They are a lower priced alternative to? some of the name brand mics. They have very good quality and have served me well in live and recording drums.
They do everything I need. A soundman on a live gig turned me on to them. He has a collection of Neuman, Sure, Senheiser and on and on mics but he really likes the Superluxes for live sound on drums. I agree. I have more expensive mics that I could use but I am quite happy with the performance of these.
wow. sorry for the delay. I havent seen this video in six or seven months. That is a Toshiba Satelite laptop that I purchased in 2006 or so. Dual processor.....off the shelf basic model. 2 gigs of ram...nothing special. Running Nuendo 3 to record my drums. Kind of a portable recording rig when paired with the FP10. I was testing the FP10 on a laptop to see what I could get away with. I am actually in the large room of my recording studio but am using a laptop rig.
thanks. Just messing around testing not so much the presonus unit but my laptop, rather, to make sure the hard drive could keep up with the data throughput of recording 8 simultaneous tracks. I think i was recording to an external usb hard drive and wanted to see if that would work.
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I use Nuendo (version 3)....which is basically identical to Cubase. Cubase is great too. Both made by same company (Steinberg). Nuendo is not available anymore and it's features have been rolled into the new Cubase. Cubase had a price drop sometime about 8 months ago from 800 U.S. Dollars to about 400 or so. Maybe due to the poor economy. I dont know but it's a steal at that price. I didnt use any gates or anything.
very tasty sounding indeed. inspirational! nice track, excellent playing!

Nice viD!!
I also have a firepod but can you explain some things?
what kind program u use? Cubase or Audition or else?
If i record woth audition i record with 7 mics and if i record i hear the bas trew every mic and its sounds horrible.
Some people told me i need to use ''Gates'' and the whole problem is gone.
Its so damn iritating, when i hit the base i see much sound and things by my snare and all tom mics it totaly ruins my total sound.
Hope for some reaction.!

Yes. It is a Gretsch Renown, Champagne finish. 5 tom toms on the entire kit, but I only ever usually play with two or three toms.
