I love the original 1961 version. It's one of my favorite adventure films and a great Ray Harryhausen flick...but this looks like SHIT! Anybody see this abortion?
For the Disney live action movie of Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island, the pirates are not going to be look like from the dashing pirates movies imagine.
But just like from the movies, Nate and Hayes, Shipwrecked, and even Jules Verne's Mysterious Island, Mystery on Monster Island, The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, and even not like from the dashing movies feature from 1930s, 1940s, and even from the outrageous failed television movie of The Mysterious Island (2005). The way the better!
I hope there will be an movie in live action are going to be made by Disney is Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island without a beautiful women, a damsels in distress, and even a horrible monsters of large beasts of giant bugs. Just also a animals of alive from existed animals like the Dodos, and even to be filled with wolves, tigers, and even orangutans named Jup that learned to wait tables. And the heroes got a dog name is Top, and Top will be a pointer and a Dalmatian dog, the best!
Ya know, i usually don't like remakes or movies based on books, but I REALLY enjoyed this movie! (No i'm not being sarcastic) I don't know why everyone hates this film so. And Helen is cute!
I haven't seen one adaptation of a single Jules Verne novel that I liked. I've read about 6 books (in English) and every attempt at the screen has been garbage. Any suggestions for good film adaptations? In the actual book, the island is not overrun by giant fantastic creatures. The "Mystery" part is related to Nemo hiding in the Nautilus and saving their skins a few times. No women in the story either, although there was an orangutan named Jup that learned to wait tables.
@GreatNorthWeb The 1954 film of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is fairly close to the novel, and quite a good movie. With Kirk Douglas, James Mason and Peter Lorre in leading roles.
thank god jules verne cannnot see this horrible thing that came out from his novel. this movie misses the point of the story, and some characters also. the novel is not about fantastic creatures and i dont what else, its about SCIENCE, the survival of the group of prisoners using their bare hands and what nature has given them with the mysterious intervention of nemo. nemo helps them because he thinks they are good people guided by high moral and values. he has a reason to love people again.
"I am developing a weapon capable of destroying an entire city" Nemo invents a weapon of mass destruction? Is this movie also partly based on "Facing the Flag?"
@pionex123456 Ha ha, no, the best thing about this movie is Patrick Stewart. Burn Notice is a fine show, even in this day and age where every show is basically some generic action drama, but it and its cast have nothing on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Pirates in 1836? Well i know they existed but the ARGGG we want yer gold pirates were LONG gone by that time! And not only was the CG bad but everything else was too! That is possibly the most plastic looking gold i've seen as well as the most plastic swords. They must have spent their entire budget on the actors.
And pause at 0:35, you can clearly see the bottom of the water but the rest of the sub is nowhere to be found.
I used to love all this type of stuff. But after the 60's and 70's everything went down the brown loaf gobbler(Toilet) Including music. Factory line Manufactured F**king Dung. I have given up hope for Earth.
never use cheap CGI , It looks like shite. Everything looks like plastic or a living oil painting. Use state of the art. or stop-motion with motion blur. And get Phil Tippet.
This is by far the worst movie I have EVER seen. Was doing an IT rollout today for work and I put on the telly in during the downtime and this piece of shit of a "movie" was on.
I hope the director got put in jail after this travesty against cinema. Biggest...piece...of...shit....EVER
I saw the movie already much times and I liked it every time. It was this evening in TV. I find Patrick Stewart is still an amazing actor! I didn't like the actress of Helen very much. She was too old for this part.
I just got finished watching the movie. It really wasn't as bad as I'd expected. I've never read the novel, so I don't know how untrue the film actually is. I thought the story was interesting and the acting was good, but the CGI really was a let-down.
damn its sience fiction cunt it doesnt have to be realistic. this might not be the best movie ever but it was worth watching and it wasnt that bad - except for the animations.
i just finished reading "The Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne. From this clip, looks like they changed the plot alot. For one thing, there is not a single woman in the whole entire book. No romance whatsoever. Also, there are not big bugs. They survive on the island quite self-sufficiently. The reason the island is mysterious is because a series of fortunate events keep taking place, which they find out is due to Captain Nemo's secret help. But they don't discover him till near the end!
It's supposedly a remake of the '60s movie rather than the book and the '60s movie didn't take the original plot very seriously at all ^^ Not the best excuse but there ya go ;)

Hmm, they added such modern components to an otherwise classic story.. I wonder why, the computer technology wasn't ready for it

There's the soviet version of 1941 which is very faithful to it. It's called "Таинственный остров (фильм)"

Typical, padded-out Hallmark crap.
An island populated by digital creatures - all they had to do was pull the plug on the computer and they'd dissolve into a mass of polygons.

This movie can be described as a ludicrous 3-hour long B-movie popcorn flick.
I loved it!
But if you don't like 3-hour long movies or popcorn flicks or B movies, you will not like it.
