Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Your in 3rd because you stayed out, and everyone else pitted (most), you had already moved up to 16th anyways.

2. At that time, pit stops were being made, so everyone in the pits went a lap down. However, when the rest of the drivers pit, most everyone will be on the lead lap again.
