Shame it was necessary to sacrifice fantastic professional drivers to change rally regulations (power output)...Attilio and Henri would have appreciated it.
@BEFFOH ehm.,...group b was 700\750 hp's...the only one with a multi-eprom is the ecv1...that you can set engine power from 750 hp's to 1100 hp....the only rally car of group S made in ITALY men!
The thing why people say that he was the best is, because he was dealt as extremely talented and fast. He was compared with the extremely fast Ayrton Senna according to his talent. Walter Roehrl (nominated as best rallye driver of all time) said once, that Henri is extremely fast, but sometimes he risks a bit too much (like Ayrton). Hearing this from Walter HAS a meaning.. he would never say something like that, if he havent been convinced of his skill (we know Walter :P).
It's a sad day when any driver or co-driver dies. I'm sure Henri was destined for a great career, but to say he was the best ever? Are we forgetting Makinen,Kankkunen,Sainz, Gronholm and now Loeb (although I think Loeb has been pretty much uncontested for the last two years)? There have been quite a few great rally drivers over the years, and yes, Henri Toivonen was one of them.
Okay, but really, only the last five races were in what you could call a true Group B car. The curent WRC cars accelerate pretty much as fast as most of the Group B cars. Don't underestimate Loeb's ability. He is a great driver as well, although we have always seen him in the best car. Henri was in the upper echelon of great drivers, but rarely in the best car. I am most impressed by his all around ability, racing in Formula cars and a Porsche 956 endurance racer.
he was great, he passed away too soon!! Group b was dangerous and difficult to controll, it gave great excitement fot the spectators, the guys who drove those cars were heroes!!!
