Oh my God , wath a couple of beautyfull and glorious Voices - Both are a gift from God to make us happier ! I love both and here are singing so well : a lesson to everybody ! Thanks a lot for posting this magic Duett with these 2 marvellous Star !!!
I am very glad about the fact that I have got the honour of knowing him very good personally. Yes, he had a lot of problems during this career, being a very nervous singer, and besides this he has suffered a lot because of his terrible depressions and all those pills he had to take also had horrible side effects. He is the most wonderful tenor for me and also soooooo brave to hang on even with all his problems !!!
Jaume Aragall i Garriga - Catalan. One of the most beautiful tenor voices I've heard. He had a very inconsistent career, and wasn't a very secure singer. I've heard some of the unfortunate problems on recital recordings, but not in person. What a glorious voice when it worked.
Yeah you can buy the dvd online from a couple of private sellers. It's a great concert where everyone was in perfect shape, most of all Eva and Giacomo (they have always been very good colleagues&friends and I believe it shows). There's also a hilarious finale where the formidable Marton, while the others sing the "libiamo" from Traviata, helps herself with more than one glass and brings drinks to the orchestra!:-)
You are of course are also right. When I would tell my friends how wonderful he was on such and such a night they would tell me that the night that they heard him and he had terrible intonation problems. I never heard any of those bad performances. All my memories of him are good ones.
I saw both Corelli and Aragal live as Cavaradossi at SF Opera. I didn't actually see Corelli do this scene because I didn't have a ticket so I sneaked in after the first act and stood in the back of the top balcony.
Corelli was sensational but very odd. In the Vittoria! scene he crossed the stage on his knees while singing. In the final duet he stepped in front of Kirsten for the high note. Pavarotti was undisiplined as Cavaradossi. Corelli was damn near crazy. I loved it and him.
This wonderful tenor should be as famous as Pavarotti. Aragall has a fantastic warm voice that deserves a lot more attention. Muchas Gracias for putting this video on Youtube!
I like Aragall. He always gives us beautiful timbre, good phrasing and safe singing. Even if he is not so exiting and frighetening like the biggest tenors.
The ultimate tenor and a wonderful duet they sang at Verona in 1984.

This is when things have started to get a bit hairy for Marton, she is wobbly and all over the place.

Jaume Aragall és una de les millors veus que ha donat la lírica catalana en el segle XX. En català, Jaume en italià és Giacomo.

He is actually a big tenor but did not do as much marketing as the others, what i mean is that he did not aim to be rich unlike some others.
