Music is to express ones feeling, but how could we express our feeling if the song itself has its own rules? Who made up these rules? Tradition? Edi sana pala tula na lang ang ginawa at hindi anthem, that way, in the future, wala ng magkakaproblema kung may singer na iba ang pagkakanta kasi lahat itutula na lang.
I'm glad that we have mixed comments on how Martin Nievera sung our National Anthem. We can't blame him for having his own version. However, he must consulted first the National Historical Institute on how it must be correctly sung. It's a law, that everyone must follow. Heres the thing guys... A National Anthem is a like a national symbol or emblem. Thus, it MUST be sang the way it was composed. Coz, if we allow such alterations and "personalization" to something we highly consider as a COUNTRY'S symbol, it would rather seem something so... ORDINARY (ordinary song). I'm glad that we have mixed comments on how Martin Nievera sung our National Anthem. We can't blame him for having his own version. However, he must consulted first the National Historical Institute on how it must be correctly sung. It's a law, that everyone must follow. Mga kakabanayan: Kaya naman po nagiging issue to, ay dahil MALI po ang pagawit nila. Ang lupang HINIRANG ay awit para samga bayani na may tempong MARTSA. Heres the thing guys... A National Anthem is a like a national symbol or emblem. Thus, it MUST be sang the way it was composed. Coz, if we allow such alterations and "personalization" to something we highly consider as a COUNTRY'S symbol, it would rather seem something so... ORDINARY (ordinary song). But i appreciate martin's effort in placing his creativity and passion in doing this coz hes really a man of reputation in this repertoire. But then again, this is the PHILIPPINES' NATIONAL ANTHEM.

@noriemar i agree. I have nothing against Martin but a national anthem represents the nation. It doesn't just belong so some artist you see on TV, it was made to be a national symbol. The anthem should be held on a higher standard compared to an ordinary song and must be treated with a certain degree or respect and elegance. artistic interpretation is nice as it gives variety and personalization but this is one of those songs that deserve to be sung the way it meant to be sung.

It's not the tempo of the song that makes the Filipino people be nationalistic. Puro kasi kayo batas wala naman kayong mga disiplina. Yung National Historical Institute ay nanggagalaiti sa 3 minutong pagkakamali pero nung pina pinturahan nila ng BERDE ang bahay ni Rizal sa Calamba ay mistula silang ignorante sa larangan ng preservation.Permanente na itong pinsala sa simbolo ng ating kasaysayan.Kung kakayurin nila yung Pinturang BERDE ay mapipinsala na yung mahigit 100 taong historia na naka pailalim sa mga kahoy at bato.Tignan sa Wikipidea o Google search ang tamang pag re restore o preservation ng historic buildings.

even the american anthem has been performed in so many renditions...artists create their own style to stand out from the rest... but sadly, i did not enjoy listenin to this version at all.

Singing the original tune to a National Anthem is the best way to sing it. But changing the Genre is NOT a world crisis. Now quit Criticizing him because it doesn't even matter.
