Magnífico! un gran homenaje para estos grandes actores, aunque faltó Jose Ferrer en Cyrano D' Bergerac, pero Muchas Gracias por compartir estas breves escenas de mis películas favoritas.
The fight from Granger's Prisoner of Zenda is one of my all-time favourites, but it seems sadly neglected when it comes to listing great action scenes. Glad to see it here!
@bluworm You are so right! It is a fantastic piece of sword play, done by two great actors who look totally at ease sword fighting. It is one of my favorite sword fighting scenes, too!
Glad it helped. Faulkner was my fencing master and told me a lot of this himself, but you can find almost all of it in a magnificant book "Swordsmen of the Screen" by Jeffery Richards.
Also, I've had good luck using IMDB and linking on to "more cast & crew" . Enjoy!
Great scenes all, but let's give some credit to the Fight Directors who choreographed them. "Mark of Zorro" & "Captain Blood", "Sea Hawk" & "Robin Hood", Fred Cavens - "Scaramouche" & the Granger/Mason "Zenda", Jean Heremans - the Coleman/Fairbanks "Prisoner of Zenda", Ralph Faulkner. Faulkner also doubled the actors in "Captain Blood" and "The Sea Hawk". All three were certified Fencing Masters: Cavens & Heremans were from Belgium while Faulkner was from Abilene, KS.
GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT......I HAVE THEM ALL...EXCEPT FOR the 1936 Romeo and Juliet...Scaramouche is my all time favorite movie......Why they dont make movies like this anymore instead of Special Effects is beyond me. The closest was The Count of Monte CRisto and few years back...Bring back IT BACK
@mervrun I have them all too. It's wounderful to see these well choreographer fights rather that the CHEAP 3D crap and flying WIRE stunts they pass off as sword fights these days.
I know that in the 30's and 40's more films were being made per year than in recent times, but it's still astonishing that Adventures of Robin Hood, Gunga Din, The Prisoner of Zenda, The Mark of Zorro, The Sea Hawk, etc. were all made within the same very short period of time. I thought the Mask of Zorro was a very honourable attempt to recreate the swashbuckler magic and it succeeded beyond my expectations. I do wish that Douglas Fairbanks Snr.'s films were more widely shown.
power and flynn were the best .romantic swashbucklers
