  • The shakr attack of Bethany Hamilton: People estimate that, the way she was lying on her board, from below she took a similar shape of a seal. As soon as the shark attacked, he left, probably upon finding out that she wasn't the creature he expected her to be. If he was really a man-eater, he'd have stayed and actually devoured her. Sharks aren't man-eaters. They are naturally more attracted to sea life blood than human blood.

  • And ppl make a big fuss when sharks kill ppl, its not the sharks fault, its ppl who go to them, prevention is better than venture.

  • BELLISIMO VIDEO! she is brilliant!!!

  • they're more docile during day; feed at night

  • It breaks my heart to hear about and see people who hunt such beautiful animals. I'm afraid of sharks yet I respect them and love them.!!

    rui rebelo ( Portugal)

  • at around 16 sec, does the guy say "die die die"? lol

  • @captainquokes

    He's saying "Dive".

  • now that i see the truth, i feel like we owe sharks a sorry for misunderstanding them, im still incredibley scared of them alot, but in a way i wanna swim with reef sharks

  • She is as bueatiful as the sharks..

  • Uh, where do we get a mask like hers for free diving???

  • i REALLY would love to do that I've dreamed of it!! i want to do that so badly, and will. i might even post it

  • beautiful woman beautiful sharks

    though, i wouldnt do it...

  • It's amazing to see how many uneducated people there are... If you knew anything about sharks, you would know that sharks do not see man as a potential food source or even a threat. You wouldn't go running with a pride of lions... But we do that with the sharks all the time when we go swimming and do other water activities. Strange that not more than 5 people die a year. I strongly recommend you all to see the action documentary "Sharkwater". Then you will get a real understanding of sharks!

  • @TheIceDragon

You're also more likely to be killed by a goat -- which applies even to those who rarely interact with them! Sharks tend to test out their prey with a big bite. Sometimes they mistake a human limb as a fish and just go for it (hence why most attacks aren't fatal or intentionally aggressive.) But if a human establishes dominance and lets the shark know they aren't prey, the shark will usually leave them alone. But yeah, all wild animals are very unpredictable.

  • Tanya , wouldn't respect be not diving into a pack of reef sharks?

  • The ending made me subscribe.

  • 'When we venture into their world, we owe them total respect and understanding'

  • @RebornMB

Actually, it doesn't really disturb anything. We do way more damage to an ecosystem by camping and hiking than diving and hanging out with sharks. As long as humans mess with anything (many idiots do) & know what they're doing (like, you know, trained/educated) we don't disturb the wild life. The sharks were like: oh, that's weird. well, there's lots of weird animals in the ocean, and this one doesn't look appetizing, so whatever.

  • that's so beautiful, i wanna go swimming down there in a mermaid costume

  • which swimming styles if done regularly will make you grow taller?

  • hehe it would be fun if they attacked her when she returned to the surface :)

  • What kind of Swimming fins is she wearing?!

can someone reply and tell me? thanks its important ..

leaving for a trip soon and want to get those.

    thank you ,

  • Crazy..and brave.

But oddly its a sense of interesting..that could make one think of trying this freediving activity.

  • what are the fins she is using?....i couldn't see a brand name on them...

  • they dont attack her because she looks like them...

  • One bird that I wouldn't mind being a bit fishy in the old clam

  • she is quality

  • When I read a part of this, i thought it said Shark Trippy (as in Charles Trippy)

  • WHAT THE HELL, she has every right to be scared of sharks that's not something to 'overcome'?!

  • Great!!

  • damn white woman.

  • "im 1 with the animals" what a crock of shit

i hate these people sharks will eat anything they damn well please if they are hungry vs when ur hungry 1 word carnivorous

  • @chunkmanshaun you really are an ignorant dumbass arent you - maybe if you bothered to spend some time in the water with them you would see why they have been around for over 300 million years and we have been here for about 10,000. ive free dived with hundreds of these guys and never had a moment when i thought i was in danger.

  • @zephcruze Honestly? Do you have any video? (curious)

  • sharks might not eat her but id give it a fair go. what a woman.

  • It would be so cool to dive there but I think I might get a rapid heart beat or an adrenaline kick.

  • animals can sense our fears.. when we are fearless, we commune with nature. then there is total TRUST with nature, that absolute beauty and richness of the moment, that utter fascination and awe, of delight and infinite happiness..

  • @eternumdei Ok so if I go fearless in a lake where there are crocodiles then they won´t attack me or if I go fearless where there are tigers they won´t attack me?

  • shit u aint on the menu but u still might get that ass tore up like some of these people we hear about.

  • yeah and the shark gose SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH I DONT EAT PEOPLE but my friend dose

  • What a fantastic dive! These videos of Tanya inspire me so much

  • If sharks could talk they probably say after promptly spitting us out, "Geez, who ordered that! Get me the manager!" It's just unfortunate that some shark mistakes (AKA attacks) are a little bit fatal, hence why we need to pay respect to their possible presence while in their territory and accept it for what it is...the risk of a mistake.

  • The most dangerous thing in that video is the free diving, not the sharks.

  • how can she breath that long

  • people can breathe reallli long. but when youre underwater, you DONT BREATHE. you hold your breath.

  • @shehrazkhan Training, training and more training. :D

  • As a scuba diver for over 30 years & shark diver & conservationist for over 15...I would've been eaten by now. We are definitely NOT on their menu. One should not fear but have a healthy respect.

  • 6117240 that makes no sence what u just said we are the ones that put fear in our selves. jesse ur like saying all mexicans are bad no not all of them are bad you guys need to think about what ur talking about.

  • you know what jesse god says never to be afriad and always trust him its all about trust and the only reason why we get bit by them is our heart rate sharks can detect it you are a very bad influence I grow up as a surfer and surf with loads of sharks. being with the wield makes me feel free from the real world surfing with every kind of fish in the sea. you are more likely to get stuck by lightning then bit by a shark do not listen to jesse she does not know what the wield is.

  • "while I start conquering my fears I've been forced to accept that sharks arent naturally man-eaters" People listen up... Don't loose you're fear we fear them because our instinct tells us we dont belong in the water and when you are face to face with a shark it's best to get your survival instinct up instead of not fearing just get you're ass to safety and don't follow any of this womans advice as one of the greatest advisors have eventually got eaten or bitten. It's never reliable

  • keep it up with good comments :) I love sharks and I think they are victims of media, but still they are dangerous wild animals we should fear and should not play with. Common sense ppl not mindless fear.

  • REALY COOl

  • you can,t cure a fear of sharks by diving with them or at all. That,s like saying you can cure your fear of being shot by having someone fire bullets at you. You can make the fear some what managable but the fear cannot be stopped it is a human emotion like any other there is no way to stop them.

  • Actually there are therapies that heal fears by exposing people to their fears, and it's a scientific fact. But we are talking about phobia, irrationnal fears, such as spiders, heights, planes... A bullet is life treathening, it's normal to be afraid. A shark usually isn't, nor are spiders or planes, and such fears can be healed with exposition, when people realize there is no danger.

  • What I was saying was fears can be reduced but you can never get rid of them completely you can make them managable but the fear will always be there. Sharks are life threatening deadly creatures that can kill you so it is normal to be afraid of them.

  • Yes, I agree, but a manageable fear is considered cured, no?

As for the sharks, they hate eating humans, we have too many bones... so, unlike Jaw movies, it's not true that they are threatening to us, unless we bleed right next to them...

  • You can make yourself get used to things by exposing yourself to them repeatedly. You can even get to LIKE them.

  • id be fine if i had someone else with me cuz then you just have to outswim them - HAHAHA but if a great white showed up id freeze in fear

  • how did you concer ur fear or at the least face it so many times u were able to do it over and over again

  • Thank you Tanya and BBC for such an amazing experience. I would like to do the same. I fear extremely sharks and deep opened seas. I love diving at the same time. When I was child one dolphin arrived close to me, I thought It was a Shark. Since then, I become in panic, and I love all about the sea, I want to effort that.

  • That idiot took such a risk, to "overcome" her fear of sharks ? what a imbecile .

Hope next time, the sharks will do what they are supposed to do, and they will kill her. You don't mess with wild animals.

  • driving to the supermarket in a car is far more risky than diving with reef sharks.

They are only dangerous if the diver is stupid enough to coat himself with bait an starts taunting at them.

  • Those reef sharks are not too dangerous and Black tip sharks are harmless.

Still at 2:42 there is a 'shark stick' in the hand of the scuba dude. LoL - I wouldn't trust a bull shark either.

95 % of the sharks are harmless. But.. you CAN'T do this with a tiger shark or a great white LoL.

  • omg you are so lucky i would Love to swim next to a whale shark!

  • my dream girl. she could fight my battles for me!

  • If sharks bite, it's because they are investigating and have mistaken us for something that might be on their menu.

Typically, they take one bite and then wonder off because we taste terrible to them.

It's time to become more educated about these amazing creatures.

  • you should not overcome your fear of sharks.

  • Such a beautiful woman, but so stupid, swimming amongts sharks with a silver wet suit. Don't you know sharks have an attraction to bright shiny colors. Duh.

  • Actually dude we aren't, i've dived with reef sharks before scuba and free diving without chain male like her and they don't bother us.

  • Actually she isn't wearing chain mail. It is a silver wetsuit. If she were wearing chain mail, she'd need a BC to keep from sinking like a stone.

She's even wearing a weight belt.

  • Oh yah, i didn't even think to look at that :P make me look dumb, thanks :D :P

  • well, this is exactly what i needed right now. it's just so peaceful.

  • great white mmmm..... yummy (kinunot) hehehehehe .sharks are curious animal but if they`ve got the chance to bite, they`ll bite to see if you are edible. only 26% of great white attack is fatal usually in murky waters (that`s a fact). safe diving everyone..... go tanya! ;)

  • The woman narrating sounds a bit naive. It's not irrational to fear sharks. What's irrational is believing they are one with you and won't hurt you. They're not circling around those people just for the hell of it. The sharks are cautious, but if they see a way in, they may try and take a bite. These people should have some sort of protection in case of emergency. Is that little stick gonna protect her? Yes, they're beautiful, but don't be naive about nature.

  • Sorry, wrong video. That comment was meant for the tiger shark video. Reef sharks are not so dangerous.

  • you get great whites on the southern parts of the GBR.

  • all the dumb people in the world should also go trough this selection process...

I think you'd be one of the extinct specimen...

  • right on.. this guy sounds retarded

  • Why don't we just get rid of man and all the wild animals can just live. That would mean no more extintion for animals due to human pollution, expansion, eating them, farming them...etc.

  • How are you did I hurt your feeling.

  • Reef sharks are harmeless, i swam with them in Maldives

  • how long can you hold you breath ladie gosh that was like for and min and 45 sec :) LOL no joke

  • Please try the same thing with Great white shark in the barrier reef but and a big but doubt you will try that.

  • Great white sharks aren't found in the Great Barrier Reef. they're found further south.

  • They are found any where they want to swim.

  • Yes, but its very, very, very rare for one to travel that far north due to the temperature of the water and many other factors.

  • ok, I really like the way she dives and fits in. Beautiful.

  • what are you crazy

  • holy shit the first person to be able to speak underwater lol

  • how long can she hold her breath for wow

  • World freediving champion Tanya Streeter dives with a pack of reef sharks in an attempt to overcome her fear of these wild predators. Beautiful underwater video from BBC show 'Shark Therapy'.

She's a free dive champion...Thats why she can hold it for that length of time.

  • ahhh, i hate you tanya, i want your lifestyle

  • Don't try this at home, kids.
