Thats the way to do it right there! Went on a hog hunt in southern Ohio and got a small hog. I have processed a few domestic hogs myself but got this wild one done at a local butcher. I gotta say It was very dark and gamey. Sure would like your recipe for the special sauce.

@jhotema it's not that you'll get sick, it's just the meat is often too chewy to be enjoyed from a old hog, the reason I make it into sausages and pork burger and have them flash frozen, this way they'll last for a long time.

for loading them up, you should have a ramp, that way they'll go in easier, you should know that pigs don't like ledges, either climbing or going down, so to ease the process, either make the transport crate level with the trap, visa versa or make a ramp out of the trap into the transport crate, it'll make everything much smoother, the pigs will literally jump into the crate when your at the opposite end of the trap.

if so, with hogs in the south, not the best idea when your dealing with a lot of them and you need to process them all, what you do is transport them out of the trapping area, bring them home/to the processing place, put them in stalls like domestic pigs and either slaughter and butcher them there or fatten them up and do that, the meat is fresher and tastier then if field dressed.

well I'm not from michigan but I know your answeres, I'm from Michigan and the pig problem is just starting here. Yes pigs will kill and eat EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. Dogs, Rabbits, Birds, Baby deer, destroy entire farm fields, kill and eat eachother. If a dog attacks a big Boar/Male and the boar wants to stay where it is than he will have a very easy time killing most dogs. If you are in florida as I recall pigs are quite populas in that area. I wouldn't be afraid to go for walks with my dog.

@1494honeydew27 I like that idea very much. it is humane and pays back in terms of quality of meat. Often the blood that is left inside an animals body makes the meat chewy. Since most wild animals are shot and not drained of their blood their meat is very different from the ones properly slaughtered especially throat slit slaughter. Also, wild animals do not have much fat since they are running around all day. That makes their meat tougher too.

@bentherabbiter easier to transport when alive, the meat stays fresher since the animal is killed and butchered immediately, not field dressed and butchered a couple hours or days later, you don't have fridges in the middle of the woods. you can even fatten them up like domestic pigs, which they basically are domestic pigs, they were just released and allowed to fend for themselves, becoming feral.
