  • that is instant economy reading at full throttle which is expected. average fuel economy real time is 25+mpg highway and 20 mpg city on a full size 4wd escalade hybrid.

  • @chellis151 if you would have read the title of the video, you would have seen it is a hybrid. Hybrids have a 6.0 not the 6.2. They also have an electric engine. The hybrids obvious drive differently because of the engine and gear ratios.

  • @Murcielago229 Along with the four forward-speed gear ratios, there are two electric motors and an additional planetary gear-set stuffed into the transmission. It's kind of like having an entire Prius transmission and a four-speed transmission stuffed into the same box. At full-throttle, the engine and motors are all at full power to get up to speed quickly, using first gear until 35 mph then switching to full-CVT mode until you let off the throttle.

  • the RPM should not go that high and you must have mest with the transmission because i have one and it doesnt not sound like that or do that. also it is a 6.2L V8 not 6.0L

  • Most Instantaneous fuel displays, are fairly accurate. but taking off from a complete stop uses a lot of fuel. Especially in a big V8, that's why you shouldn't take off from a stop like you're drag racing lol.

  • @mulcryan I think that's gauge is for the battery, how much charge it's producing or something, would make sense for it to go all the way over under hard acceleration...lol I don't think the car was massively overheating going to 60

  • Guys this may come as a shock, but the more you push on the gas pedal the more gas it uses. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that flooring your car (whatever it is) uses a lot of gas. In fact Top Gear raced a Pruis against a BMW and they found that when driven hard the Prius was actually LESS efficient than the BMW.

    The MPG number on the display is what the car was getting that very second, not on average.

  • Umm, GM cars have a real time MPG display, as well as an average MPG display. Most cars only have the average MPG display. When you plant the pedal to the floor on any car, the real time MPG will only be 1-3MPG

  • Only some GM cars have the real time display. They need to add the capability to the rest of their lineup.

    Under full throttle acceleration the Instantaneous Fuel Economy of any SUV will drop down to single digits.

  • @mpgomatic Any car accelerating mpg is very low. Even my 1.8L Toyota engine speeding up fast will be a few mpg. Usually 4-5mpg.

  • @VivaLaBamEpisodes Yup! Taking off from a full stop consumes a whopping amount of fuel. I'll often take the long way to get from one side of town to the other - with less stops and traffic - to save gas and have a more enjoyable ride.

  • @VivaLaBamEpisodes priuses are pretty much the same.... everyone expects it to always have great mpg but when you are always trying to keep up with the traffic on stop and go streets, you never really get the epa estimated mpg.... :(

    i still have to love hybrids cuz the engine can shut off whenever you don't have to use it! thumbs up! haha

  • @shadow - Are you kidding?! If you drive a Range Rover at full throttle, you are without doubt going to, if only for a moment, be achieving dismal MPG. C'mon, it's common sense that you'd achieve that at full throttle.

  • Interesting note that GMs Two-Mode Hybrids do not have torque converters. They take off using electric power every time. They went with the larger 6.0L so the vehicle can stay in V4 mode longer. Since this was co-developed with GM/BMW/DCX, this transmission also made an appearance in modified form in the now defunct Durango and Aspen. BMW stuck their 4.4L on the end of it as well in the X6. Its pretty cool tech I just they could make it cost less.

  • Haha yes they do but not in this case. The regular Escalade has a 6.2L engine with a little over 400 horses. These ones have a 6.0L which puts out 333 horses, Idk how much power the electric engine puts out to aid it.

  • 9 seconds 0-60 isn't bad for a car this size. The hybrid engine definitely helped.

  • nah. it aids the engines in normal everyday driving. Electric motors are good from a stand still but not too good at high speed.

  • the gearings different. If im correct, some of those hydrids use a type of transmission something like a street sweeper has. Hydrostatic transmission i believe. Jus two gears...forward, reverse.

  • Its a CVT that shifts like a automatic transmission, there are 4 preset ratio in the CVT, it shift accordingly to how you drive.

  • not second gear. Its a revonlutionary transmission that uses the best of CVT and a conventional 4 speed to get the best fuel economy and performace. Also it depends on how you drive it. I know people who own a tahoe hybrid and average 25 mpg! I have a 07 suburban with AFM and average around 17 mpg. am mostly in the city. So I think the hybrid is worth it.

  • That seems to be a poorly designed CVT. It revs to over 5500 and losing tons of power just to drop back to 4500 then start accelerating again.

  • This CVT has "gears" which are I guess supposed to make it feel more like a typical transmission car.  Apparently doesn't work 100% at WOT
