Thank you so much for posting this video. When i try to explain to Brazilians that what they're doing is NOT Zouk, there seems to be a disconnect. That stuff they do to Zouk lacks the tempo and rhythm of the music. It's a total disrespect for Afro Caribbean culture. I think I'll make up a funky little 2 step, and call it SAMBA, and see how they like it.
@temu09 I know absolutely nothing about zouk, but this comment seems a little negative to me. I doubt Brazilians mean to be disrespectful to Afro Caribbean Culture. Isn't there more than one style of of a certain type of dance? Maybe what they are dancing is "Brazilian Zouk" as opposed to "Caribbean Zouk." If this type of dance/rhythm originated in the caribbean and is now being adopted by another culture, i think its a wonderful thing.
@temu09 I also feel there is nothing wrong with them changing it a little to put their own style on to it. I'm sure Brazilians wouldln't have a problem with you doing a Samba and changing it a little to make it your own.
@miamiluvr But you see, the problem there is that if you don't name it differently more than"Brazilian X" vs "Caribbean X", one day that X will be so "corrupted" that there will be no way to tell which one is right. I know dancing is for fun, but it's also a part of a culture, and it must be respected and carefully kept for the future generations. Thank you so much for posting this video. When i try to explain to Brazilians that what they're doing is NOT Zouk, there seems to be a disconnect. That stuff they do to Zouk lacks the tempo and rhythm of the music. It's a total disrespect for Afro Caribbean culture. I think I'll make up a funky little 2 step, and call it SAMBA, and see how they like it.

@temu09 I know absolutely nothing about zouk, but this comment seems a little negative to me. I doubt Brazilians mean to be disrespectful to Afro Caribbean Culture. Isn't there more than one style of of a certain type of dance? Maybe what they are dancing is "Brazilian Zouk" as opposed to "Caribbean Zouk." If this type of dance/rhythm originated in the caribbean and is now being adopted by another culture, i think its a wonderful thing.

@temu09 I also feel there is nothing wrong with them changing it a little to put their own style on to it. I'm sure Brazilians wouldln't have a problem with you doing a Samba and changing it a little to make it your own.

@miamiluvr But you see, the problem there is that if you don't name it differently more than"Brazilian X" vs "Caribbean X", one day that X will be so "corrupted" that there will be no way to tell which one is right. I know dancing is for fun, but it's also a part of a culture, and it must be respected and carefully kept for the future generations. If it's not Zouk, they shouldn't call it Zouk, there's no need of it, let apart offence, it's for the culture sake.

@temu09 What we do is the Brazilian Zouk, not this. It's our way to dance the Zouk Music. And let's face it: our style is way more interesting than the Original Zouk from Antilles...

So refreshing to see REAL Zouk dance! No one moves to zouk like the sistahs.

zou at 78 lounge in union and some places in the city. Alote of haitian parties play a variety of black musi, zouk cabo verde, kizombo, coupe decal, compa, gwada, hip hop rade, bachata, carnival, racine, sakis, soukous, r&B, reggea. all that at a Haitian party. I love my haitian dj's they are world rounded dj's
