Poor man, stuck on that shallow-body p.o.s. guitar - so unresonant it almost sounds like an unplugged solid-body. He overcomes it, though, like the artist that he is.
I don't know...THAT is NOT the JT guitar sound...maybe technical problems but he he's all pro, right? Show goes on. The crowd did not seem to dislike...
not a fan of that particular acoustic guitar gives a very trebley sound, i like smooth bassy guitars. you know what they say treble=trouble. lol jk but i like this version very intimate.
James is clearly one of the greatest acoustic guitar players of all time. The things he does effortlessly are the things most high level professional players strive their entire lives to do
woww..his one of a kind..he has a rare voice..a brearthtaking voice!!he gonna blow up your boredom and make your day awesome™...LOVE YOU JT♥♥♥...sounds good♫♫♪♪♫♪...;)
@MultiShades SAD?? the man is an icon-second act signed by the Beatles on Apple records (after Badfinger) in 1970. A lifetime of achievment and hundreds of songs we can never forget is SAD? you are f'n sad you moron. he has lived a wonderful life-maybe you will do as well at his age
I remember when JT was trying to make a name for himself in the very early 70s. His brother Livingston & sister Kate also had one or 2 records on the charts. It was a time for the Taylor family.
Anyone know what brand of guitar that is he's playing? Definitely not one of his Olsens... the body looks too thin, with a sound to match.
There's something beautiful about James's sons & performance with everything stripped away--even his voice sounds completely stripped down when it's not pumped through preamps for a stadium show. It's like hearing him play in your living room.
Shame about the empty bass end on the guitar. He plays really well and shouldn't have to wrench on it so hard.
@Danklin24 Not to be obnoxious but being a huge jack fan i still gotta say its highly unlikely jack johnson could play this. James Taylor uses complex and safisticated chords where Jack uses almost all first position and bar chords, Jack does not claim to be a great guitarist though.
I love Jack Johnson but his guitar work is not his claim to fame, more his lyrics and soothingness in his voice
@kadleckyle Fair enough. I do think Jack has his fair share if songs that showcase pretty good guitar playing such as Poor Taylor. True a lot of people on Youtube alone can play it, but still a pretty difficult song for most people. Haha but i cant think of any more off the top of my head but i personally think Jack is a pretty good guitarist in his own right.
@Danklin24 Just getting back from a Jack Concert last night in Michigan i will say this, Jack Johnson has HUGELY increased his playing skills in the last couple years. in his genre of music ill agree he is not a bad guitarist at all.
@kadleckyle Obviously Jack Johnson isn't as talented of a guitarist as James Taylor but being a professional musician I'm sure he could play this song. Jack plays simple songs because that's his style and it's what people expect from him but he still can kick ass on the guitar.
@ghostrideit19 yeah like i was just saying to Danklin i just saw Jack live last night and his playing has increased tremendosly in the last couple years. And i agree, what i meant were that his skills were not on the same level as james taylor, but many people dont realize that there are very very few who are on that level. I agree though, for his style of music Jack rocks with his guitar, regardless of the complexity or difficulty
@Danklin24 Not to be obnoxious but being a huge jack fan i still gotta say its highly unlikely jack johnson could play this. James Taylor uses complex and safisticated chords where Jack uses almost all first position and bar chords, Jack does not claim to be a great guitarist though.

JT is about five years older than me and I know to enjoy him now because within a few years.......you won't hear the same JT....although he may still perform. I think I'll still love his sound then......but it won't take me back like it still does.
Oh god. Someone shoot me now. 'He's kinda like Jack Johnson'?? Kid, please Google James Taylor (and never insult the man like that again). I'm only teasing you a little here... but seriously, Google him.
Who are you calling "kid"? I'm 33 years old my friend. I don't considering comparing James Taylor to Jack Johnson an insult. In fact, I'd say it's a pretty good complement.
I'm comparing them because their style of playing and singing are similiar in that it's very soothing and relaxing.
hey hey there... relax- didn't i say i was only teasing you a little?
and yes even at 33 you're a kid to me. ;-)
i totally took what you said as a compliment. it was just ill-stated. compliments work out better when you honor the person who helped defined the art form (JT) rather than the noob (Jack).
...in other words, Jack is 'kinda like' JAMES... not the other way around.
Seriously exactabob... I wouldn't even put those two in the same sentence. Jack Johnson is boring. James Taylor is master of the understatement. (Normally I'd have separated those statements with a semi-colon, but I'm avoiding putting them in the same sentence!) I can't even remember a single Jack Johnson song myself and probably wouldn't know him from a hundred others of his ilk. James stands out, whether or not you care for his music.
what they mean gocubs is you don't know what your talking about.i was offended as well for james by your well ment comparison.seriously try to emerse yourself in jt for a month and if you dont get it yet, you might need to wait awhile get some life experience jack johnson knows nothing about. by the way take some jt on a cross country drive for best effec!
@exactabob : Good one...he's "kinda like Jack Johnson?" lol Jack Johnson would even be embarrassed by that. But seriously, what the hell of an excuse for a guitar is he playing? Inexcusable for an artist like him.
line 6 variax, what was he thinking about? He has an olson parlour, if je needs to travel light!
