I've heard that Chief Joseph never actually made that speech. True or not, it does not matter who wrote it or who said it. The words are beautiful, and we have them today. Our tribe believed and believes in owning land, Still I love the words. Manitoumahwhingon, Chippewa Elder
Chief Joseph is a great man. Not until I search the word ''greatest speech'' in Yahoo did I knew him.
To be honest, as a Chinese, I don't know a thing about Indian and any other tribes in the West. But Chief Joseph's peaceful and considerate act still touches me.
Why can't people just simply stay together in peace? Is that true that the nature of human is so ugly that we love to invade others?
Many years ago, I studied the plight of the Nez Perce under Joseph. As part of the research I received, I once had a photocopy of his death certificate. One night, sitting around the campfire, he simply curled over dead. The official cause of death on the certificate, as signed by an army physician was "Broken heart." My own heart still aches when I read these words about a brave man and fearless leader.
The whites are thieves and butchers. And like all thieves they try to rewrite their past, forgetting about all the lives they have destroyed. -Isot(wolf) Acjachemen Nation
The ABOMINATIONS of the Government of the United States of America; A apostate era from the beginning; of violence and of death. Workers of iniquity; deceit, lies, artifice, oppression murder, a robber and thief.! "A witness unto all nations; Of the United States of Americas proceeding ABOMINATIONS"
I live in North America and only after coming here and meeting the indigenous people and reading this like this has distanced me from white people because they are savages. Native will regain their land some day and the whites will be no more.
Hmmm. Could it be because a lot of American Jews have a lot of money and political clout?
Consider this. If Mel Gibson had been pulled over for impaired driving by an Arab, Muslim Cop and uttered disparaging comments about Arabs or Muslims, Would he have been villified in the same manner that he was for his anti semitic comments? I think not!
I wanted to point out that one of the reasons he surrendered was because the army came at night and massacred the women, children and horses when they were close to Canada.
I am actually his great, great, great, great grandson. My grandmother introduced me to some family out there, but I sadly don't know everyone so if you are related send me a message.. Great Video!
I am actually his great, great, great, great grandson... I know there is still some family I haven't met but my Grandmother introduced me to some when I was younger on the reservation. Great video.
there is a movie about Chief Joseph and it is called "" I Will fight no more forever"", I am not sure if it was made in the 60's or 70's, but if you can found please watch it,, it is awesome and I cryed like a baby,, One of the best Indian movie,so moving,, he was a very great chief!!! I loved the movie so much over the last 20 years I use his Quote!!!
wow this was great. i am also nez perce and im not sure if im related to chief joseph. some ofmy family tell me that i am and some of them just arent sure so i dont no. i dont no if this will make any difference but my grandfather is nez perce and my grandmother is colville, if chief joseph has any ties to the colville tribe. im just curious if i am
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Even if it turns out you're not related to Chief Joseph directly, you still have a proud and incredible history through your native heritage.
PLEASE DO NOT INSULT CHIEF JOSEF!! He is my great, great, great grandfather! I am dead serious! I've been to his grave near Willowa Lake in Eastern Oregon (I live in southwestern Oregon) !!!!!!!!
Americancutie96, I just wanted to say hello to you. Chief Joseph is one of my hero's and a man that we could learn a lot from these days. I live in England and would love to visit the Wallowa valley and Nespelem
Thank you for putting this video on as a response to the video of Johnny Horton song, "Comanche". It's absolutely appropriate, but good luck with the morons who've commented on THAT site! They're why it's called HONKYtonk music. Thnx again.
I also want to throw out there that our real tribal is Nee-Me-Poo, it means 'the people.' And Joseph's real tribal name is Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekht (i wrote the names this way b/c its esier for ppl to read) and it means 'Thunder Rolling in the Mountains.'
One of the best things about these videos is that native people, sometimes relatives of the subjects of my videos, leave comments or contact me. It truly is an honor to read your words, FuneralRoses, and thanks for the corrections and explantions of the names. Your ancestor's story seems to affect everyone who learns it, and I hope I did his memory justice.
As a relative of Joseph my heart aches every time i hear of our people suffering in those days. I have cried on numerous occasions. What makes me more upset though, is that my great-grandfather(x7) is not even buried on Nez Perce land. He is resting under the only tree on the Colville Reservation in Washinton, his grave is not even facing towrds home (as is customary), even when Gneral Miles promised him he could live out his days with his people in Idaho. He died in 1905 at the age of 60.
All these videos are brilliant. The more I learn about the suffering and an almost complete genocide of the Indians in the late 1800s, the more I believe thay America does not to be a country or even exist. Things like "land of the free, home of the brave", democracy, etc, etc are all sham. Its not even their (whites) land anyway.
There's a lot of talk today about immigrants not wanting to assimilate into North American society.
When North America was aboriginal land, Europeans did not come here with any intentions of assimilating. They had every intention of supplanting the people already here.
I have a quote attributed to Chief Joseph on my homepage, it reads: The earth is the mother of all people and all people should have equal rights upon it. ~Chief Joseph, 1879 This is a brilliant video zacuan, thank you for posting it! ~Barb (winspirit)
That was very touching, thank you for sharing that with me. I feel for the true Americans who had true pure hopes for this country. Chief Joseph will never be forgotten as long as people like you keep making his story known to the world. You did a wonderful job my friend. Thank you.
Chief Joseph was a great man !

America, America, God shed His shame on thee! One day this country
will be brought to its knees for what it did to the original peoples living here.
Custer and all the Low Lives << nothing to be proud of.
