I'm an Air Force vet. I advise that young people visit the recruiter with an older person, especially someone who is a vet, preferably an Air Force vet. I advise the prospective recruit to take accurate notes. I think it's a good idea to put a recording device on the desk, too. In my case, if the recruiter didn't misrepresent a couple of things, I didn't remember them correctly because I didn't do any of those things.

They kick out people left and right for not qualifying for the Air Force. All branches are being like the Air Force because the amount of people that wants to join. I know a recruiter that has nothing but Bachelors Degree holders joining the enlisted route because the Air Force did not pick them for Officer Training School!

@MrRanger1987 This is Azona, the navy does not have more pilots. The Air force has over 18000 aircraft compared to the navys 6000 I believe. Also the main reason I chose the Air Force is because they allow me to start ROTC during my soph. year. The navy does not allow this, I can get the BDCP but when i get done with school I have to go to OCS which decreases my chances of a pilot slot compared to ROTC.

@rive08 there is afjrotc which is in high schools and some middle schools, afrotc which is at colleges, an the real airforce. Basicly the rotc, and jrotc are training you to be an officer. So that you can lead the enlisted (airmen). Also when you graduate from college with all 4 years of rotc you will come out abd into the real airforce as a 2nd lit. Im in afjrotc now but im applying for west point and becoming a AH-64A Apache Longbow pilot.

XxIncompetencexX: I was in the Air Force, and the overwhelming majority of Airmen can NOT attend college while in the Air Force. First, you have to be lucky enough to be stationed at a base that has a nearby college. Second, you have to come up with the money to pay for it. Third, you're screwed if your shift changes or if you you have to move to a different base.

I took English 101 and Algebra classes, but when I was 75% through, I had to drop out when I was forced to work evening shift.

Truth of the matter is..95% of enlistees, will never get within 10 miles of one of these planes, or ever jump out of a helicopter. How about a video showing a new enlistee peeling 5000 pounds of potatoes...or cleaning a 1000 toilets and showers!

Truth to the matter is your wrong. Over 65% of USAF enlistees work around (mechanics, engineers etc) aircraft, and then there are those members who work on the inside(pilots, aeronautical engineers, navigators). We also have air traffic controllers(what i did in Iraq for a year)

We don't make our men and women peel "5000 pounds of potatoes or cleaning toilets, thats what we get the civilian contractors to do all the dirty work.
