  • @sinnersavedbychrist yes there is a turbo kit, just go to ebay and type 2006 cobalt turbo kit. and yeah I think it does replace the supercharger. but turbo is way better then a supercharger

  • Chevrolet has a nice idea, It needs a slight visual re-design. Granted this is the cavaliers predecessor so the bar isn't set very high, but it is definitely a great performance car. Given a wider frame and slightly stiffer suspension to communicate twists and turns to the rigid chassis better would make this car a challenge all the way around the track. Maybe if GM was crazy enough to make it a V6 SC or TC in a RWD format, you cold have a new boy-racer favorite.

  • if you haven't already go see car and driver's lightning lap comparison of cars. at virginia intl raceway, the 08 cobalt stomped on many higher cost rear, all, or front drive cars. the only car in its class faster is the '11 mustang V6 (300 hp). sample of cars it beat; (front drive) civiv si mugen, mazdaspeed 3, (rear drive), mazda rx8 r3, solstice gxp(same exact motor), (all wheel drive), impreza wrx sti, lancer evo mr. it beat cars costing nearly twice as much, like is-f, and elise sc

  • Still love my '09 Turbo SS. The interior is comfy and bluetooth in the steering wheel so nice! It blows the doors off most v8 cars and gets 38 mpg on a steady 60 mph country backroad. It's a marvel of engineering at any price.

  • @ricorob100 I couldn't disagree more. Turbo's, working only off recycled exhaust fumes from the engine, are much more efficient than a belt-driven supercharger. That allows you to "stay off the boost" as some guys put it. Also, I don't believe the s/c had the variable valve timing (VVT). This technology makes the cams get bigger and let more fuel in/ exhaust out when you're putting the pedal down but also makes the can smaller and restricts fuel consumption under normal driving conditions.

  • @daveyboygee It could be but not to start a useless argument over nothing really but if you look at gm's fuel economy they never listed a cobalt ss turbo at 38 mpg's, the only cobalt that averaged a higher mile per gallon rating wan a cobalt xfe and that was listed at 36 miles per gallon and that was to compete with the civic and corolla models that were averaging 35mpg's so you'll have to chaeck on that, because I loked at a window sticker and it said 30 on a 2010

    the ss eats the mazdaspeeds food, especially on the highway, off the line, and on corners.

    basically better all around is what i am trying to say, and all you have to do is tint it up and it will look just as good.

    oh and get the gm performance kit and you can run with porsches, mercedes and bmw's etc no problem. it also doesnt have a speed limiter and will do 163 mph with the kit.

The gti can be faster than the speed with with a simple chip. Once you add a apr ko4 kit its faster than a v8 r8 with apr exhaust...lets see a speed 3 do that.

As for your cavalier, it was made in mexico it should have a 3 as the very first digit of its VIN. But i know for a fact other cavaliers were made in the U.S.

  • Actually that changes depending on the driving surface and ,obviously, the driver. Take these numbers with a grain of salt. If you see Ford advertise at car that does 4.5s 1/4 and Inside Line does it in 4.8s, it doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong. Nor would it necessarily mean the Ford is slower at 1/4 than a Mazda that has an advertised 1/4 of 4.4s. You can't count on these numbers, the only thing you should count on is how fast your foot hits the floor.

  • I like this cobalt ss, the exterior is simple, yet agressive, the interior is known as cheap to some, but again i find it simple, and as a teenager i wouldn't care less, as long as it works, and the ipod adapter and wheel mounted stereo controls are nice touches. As for the engine, its has good power for its price just my two cents :D

What does the renault cost?a cobat is in the mid $20's. The worst thing about the cobalt is the styling or the lack of it. But here in the usa its about the cheapest fast car u can buy.

  • @sgtjones Except the Cobalt holds the record for a FWD "passenger car" which the R26.R clearly is NOT. For those of you who don't know about the car he's describing, R26.R is based on the Renault Megane. But unlike the Cobalt SS vs LS it's a different car. They strip out the rear seat and put in a roll cage. Renault says the R26.R goes from 0-62mph in 6 seconds. Clearly, even with seating for 5, no rollcage or 5 point harnesses, the Cobalt SS Turbo can compete with the heavily modded Renault.

    I saw it on a car review.. Motortrend, or Car and Driver. They were comparing serveral budget sorts cars, and mentioned that when they tested the Cobalt. I saw it on Youtube.. search for Cobalt ss comparison and you will find it. The Cobalt is done now.. the Chevy Cruze is the replacement.
