Those flags don't have much flap in them to begin with, assuming they're pieces of either plastic or some sort of cloth stretched on a stiff pole. On top of that, they're catching more background wind than anything else, which means the turbulence behind the car wouldn't have as much effect on them.

When you are on the pavement/sidewalk and a lorry passes you, you get the rush of air just after it passes and not immediately. Rally drivers do insane shit, because it means getting a faster time.

I don't know if this is Colin McRae or not but he was a helicopter pilot. Most of the pro car racers are pilots as well. So yeah. And on top of that, Subarus are extremely perfectly balanced, front to rear, so it flies nicely when launched at high speed. The reason why it doesn't fall apart is that this particular race car is made out of exotic materials and costs about $300k ; If it were a regular car it would break in 3000 pieces once it touched down.

@supertruckertom Those shocks killed themselves in the process. The driver missed the pace note for the crest, so he went over it top of 6th gear. When the car landed the shocks exploded. There was a better quality version of this somewhere and you could see a flare of fire from the atomized shock oil hitting the exhaust. The driver and navigator were out for a couple races due to back problems after this.

@DracoOne On review you can see the spray of the fluid. I thought it was just dust. That would explain the lack of a big rebound as well. There are shocks that can take a hit like that. It would be difficult to fit them in a rally car . Class 8 truck, no problem.
