  • Oh I wanna see the whole thing. The Smiths were one of the 1st man, REM, the Cure, they changed the scene and got the stage ready for Seattle to come and blow the doors down

  • Love The Smiths <3

  • I wonder....if they had all agreed on 25% each, would they still be making good music today? Morrissey without them is not that interesting

  • @brunsk123 morrissey doesn't want to...i think the rest of them would be more than happy to reunite...i hope my generation will get this chance...

  • I used to be a big fan for many years of the Smiths unit Morrissey done what he did to Mike and Andy. All they wanted was 10% and he is still screwing about to this day about giving it to them.

With all the money he has!

He lost me as a fan,and maybe he has lost many more. The Queen is dead!

  • He gave them 10%, they agreed on 10% - Mike sued him to get 25%.

  • yeah, but he wants a retrial to get the money back.

  • @NielsDouglas Were you there?

  • Andy Rourke(bass),Mike Joyce (drums),Johnny Marr (guitar)"The Smiths"!

Andy like the pistons of a car that keeps it ticking over.Mike like the pistons turning it pumping out,and Johny the steering column, the one that keeps it together.

Morrissey(steven) the exhaust the one the pumps out all the shit!

"Vivat Hate" was a good album, after that.Well......,but with out "The Smiths" He is SHIT!

  • I mean "Viva Hate"

  • they seem like good guys

  • and how much mixed Irish descent can be found in these "Brit" bands has to be mentioned...

  • Most British people are celtic, It's EXTREMELY rare to find a British person with pure anglo saxon blood.

  • genealogist are we?

  • Not really it's just true, talk to ANY English person and go through their family tree and i'll bet you 1000 quid you'll find a Scot, Irish, or Welsh person somewhere along the line.

England as an Island is surrounded by Celtic nations, you don't really think the Anglo Saxons could be placed for centuries next to 3 other countries without getting a bit "jiggy" with any of them do you?

me for example born and raised in london, but My whole family on my fathers side was Irish.

    Celtic English.

  • I don't know what Joyce did wrong in sueing Morrissey.

I'm a huge fan of Morrissey, but Rourke and Joyce deserved some money from the songs, considering their drumming and basslines were excellent.

If Morrissey was so inclined to believe that they didn't deserve anything, then he really should of just had The Smiths as a double act, named Morrissey and Marr.

  • I'm completely with you on that. You've definately got your head screwed on.

  • Rourkey my LOVE....most underrated bass player in music history period!!!

  • Exactly, I hear every base note on The Smiths first album and its just amazing

  • i absolutly love the base in the smiths music and the smiths are equaly as great!

  • He was cut off there; but was that actually Mark E. Smith paying another band a compliment?

    Or was it just editing?

In fairness, even that grumpy bugger probably would acknowledge the Smiths greatness.

The Fall are pretty great too, of course.

  • Most people who love Morrissey are inclined to hate Mike Joyce, I would say I'm reasonably fond of both of them. Johnny Marr is the main man for me.

  • one thing that i cant stand is that everytime best guitarists of all time is spoke of johnny marr is never mentioned, i think johnny marr is among the best and im an american, i just think many americans are partial to american bands and guitarists but i think johnny marr and the smiths are among the best band and guitarists of alltime, and morrisey is a genius lyricists, thery're just one of my favorite bands but i do really like britt music, it has an origional sound!

  • i hear you mate.

  • I totally agree with ya. If you mention Johnny Marr people go....who?? What you never heard of the Smiths? They have always been one of my favorite bands and Marr is a genius! The UK has it all over American bands. It is a fact they create better bands although we do have Janes Addiction and The Pixies. Of course it took the Brits to point out how great these bands are.

  • lol i know what you mean...to some it may sound anti american of me but im not anti american, i just think the britts have better music, ive always been partial to britt bands and many i liked before i knew they were brittish so thats proof im not just beign partial to them lol, i like duran, tears for fears, new order, joy division, depech mode...theres just an endless amount of them i like and your right....marr is the best!

  • not true, marr has been mentioned in guitar world plenty of times he's also been in guitar player twice ,also andy aledort did a rhythm guitar dvd in which he featured the edge's and johnny marrs guitar style. He also has been named as in the top alterantive style guitarists.

  • thats cool he got some notorioty then, i think he deserves it and i think he's as good as anyone of the ones considered the greats, i know he plays alternitivly but i still think he's undercredited even though he's called the best alternative i think he's one of the best regardless, alternative or not!

  • i love steven patrick morrissey!

  • hope he gets better soon

  • rip jimmy, adrian and martin.

however, im sure moz will just about scrape through without them.

  • Joycey has always had class and dignity,Morrisey, though one of the best lyricists ever is a media whore.Joyce & Rourke defo one the best back line rythmn sections of all time.Listen carefully,

  • i thought that the editing in this film was horrid. did not like

  • Hooky & Rourkey Manchester's bass legends!!!

  • don't forget mani!

  • 2:02

    lol, that mark

  • Aye and MES, far better. Now let's see the reaction.

  • It is available on DVD quite easily on ebay or amazon.

  • Yes,this was released in 2007. I've just got the DVD for my birthday and watched it twice already. Well worth watching.

  • Where did you get it from? (or whoever bought it for you)

  • Was this film ever released?

  • Brilliant video. .

  • Smiths Rule...Hooky rules as well!

  • Was that Peter Hook at 1:35?

  • yes it was him

  • Hooky!!!

  • MOZ

  • I'm sure Joyce and Rourke would be lovely to have a chin-wag with, but Morrissey would probably be quite a handful, I'dimagine, as immensely talented as he undiubtedly is!

  • ive met both Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke a couple of times on thier dj tour and they are both top blokes. Despite what Morrissey says about Mike Joyce, he is one of the most nicest, sincerest persons ive ever had the pleasure of meeting. He truly loved the smiths and loves to talk to fans and never does he talk about with bitterness, unlike you know who?

  • interesting.... Morrissey appears to hate everyone but that's his appeal - he's a perpetually depressed teenager - that he alienates himself by doing this is really what rock and roll and punk is all about

  • Thanks you just ruined rock for everyone forever.

  • i remember talking with mike joyce when he was touring with the buzzcocks and they played a show in tampa, fla. back in the early 90s and i asked him, point blank, "will the smiths ever get back together again?" he looked at me and was pretty much speechless. he really looked like he was going to cry. i think the smiths meant more to him than people really know...

  • Yeah but Wikipedia proves nothin, any tit can write any shit up on there. Your probably right like but be aware.

I put Myself up there as David Babelfish, the inventor of Cowboys who had Dead fish instead of Guns and rode a green leopard. It stayed there for a good week atleast.

  • OOOHHHH SHITTT MARK E SMIFFFFF

  • I stand corrected. Gannon appeared on "Interesting Drug" and "The Last of the Famous International Playboys" as well as Rourke and Joyce. But Rourke also appeared on "Piccadilly Palare" and "November Spawned a Monster".

  • Oh, and Rourke wrote and played on the fantastic Morrissey (single?)-song Girl Least Likely To. What a song.

  • I'll be damned. According to Wikipedia, Rourke also played on "Piccadilly Palare" and "November Spawned a Monster". So did Craig Gannon.

  • According to Mike Joyce's website as well as Wikipedia, he and Rourke provided the rhythm section on "Interesting Drug" and "Last of the Famous International Playboys".

  • not only wikipedia says it, you can clearly see mike and andy playing on "last of the famous..." video.

  • Really? Well in the case, I'll see if I can find it.

  • i think its more romantic that they broke up, than just dry out like some bands. better to remember a group that way. The Smiths were always good , they never did anything crap.

  • wow, thank you for this:) enjoyed watching it.

  • I know that Rourke and Joyce provided the rhythm section on a couple of Morrissey's solo songs and they may yet be right under my nose as I have purchased Viva Hate and Bona Drag. The question is "Which ones?"

  • i know they played live with him when he came back as a solo artist, dunno about albums. dont think it lasted long though.

  • 'Sister Im a Poet'

  • Arigato.

  • is it me or does this seems like a trailer rather than the actual program?

  • it is a trailer!

  • Brilliant video. The Smiths are the greatest British band of the 80s. A genius front man and a guitar genius in one band. And I agree with all the comments about Andy Rourke's bass playing - he was brilliant. Never a note out of place and very melodic. The best bass players always have a signature sound and style.

  • whats mark e smith doing in there?!

  • And also a nice guest appearance from Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order.

  • andy rourke is the greatest pop bassist of all time.

recommended artists you guys might not have heard: kevin m. kirker, joanna newsom, scott matthews, cat power, sufjan stevens, teddy thompson

  • Andy rourke...one of the best (under rated)bass players ever...listen to the songs!

    totally agree

you can see where the roses and mondays took inspiration

  • damn! why do good english bands like smiths, oasis, and stone roses quit when they are just getting popular? i can see them quitting after getting too popular and well known like the beatles but this i don't understand. damn shame cause thay all made such great music.

  • Oasis is still going. But I'm always glad the Smiths quit when they did - they left their legacy intact.

  • yeah ur right. think of all the fantastic music they could have made in the 90s.... if only johnny marr didnt leave :-(

  • omg, thnx soooooo much for this.

  • wait this dvd is avalible in the US rite?

  • Hi, the DVD is released in the USA, Cananda and Japan on 8th january 2008, all the best, mark

  • oh, cool. thank you

  • Thanks for the info.

  • seems ineresting

  • Morrissey and Marr were the main men in the Smiths BUT Mike and Andy deserve massive respect for their contribution. Without Mike and Andy the Smiths just wouldn't be the Smiths.

  • I`ve just watched this today on DVD and found it very interesting of Andys and Mikes perspective view of Life within The Smiths. What it lacked was The Smiths Great Music which obviously belongs to Morrissey/Marr and theres NO way they would get permission.

  • I met Andy and Mike a couple of years ago and not only are they great musicians and down to earth guys they still have a lot of respect for Morrissey despite the court case and his media attack on them both. This looks like its going to be an explosive documentary truth about The Smiths without disrespect to Moz and Johnny . I doubt even this film will get The Smiths together again. One can only dream.

  • yeah, but would we really like them to get back together again?

honestly, i think it would turn out pretty shallow.

also, i've never considered Andy and Mike less members of the Smiths. Anyone who has been in a band knows that every member is as important as the other, just in different ways.

  • Andy rourke...one of the best (under rated)bass players ever...listen to the songs!

  • second that

  • he is an awesome bass player :)and that's why i mentioned him in my tribute video to bass players

  • 'Jus When It Was Gettting Good...'

  • Yey Prestons In It!

  • Hooky!

  • Hopefully I'll get this. Andy Rourke rules!

  • Yes please I want this now.

  • Will this be on UK television or just youtube?

  • Hi, It will be out on DVD first on 16th July 2007 then on TV later in the year

  • Do you have a website to order this DVD, or will it be available in places like Amazon?

  • Yes, it is available on Amazon, play etc. Just type 'Inside the Smiths' into a search engine and you will get a list

  • You got M.E.S in it, i'll be buying.

  • Out In Shops

Coz I Have To Have...Preston Is In It!
