I've been looking for slide lessons since I started tonight actually and clearly this isn't a lesson aimed at beginners . . . and isn't even a "lesson" at all. Still, are we not the whiniest bastards for DEMANDING clear, concise how-to material at our fingertips in the comfort of our homes for free? People used to have to learn by ear.
this lesson wouldnt be bad if he stopped at the start of it and actually talked about the tuning he was in reasons why you would use it and showed the stuff clearly i mean id really like to learn this stuff but now i gotta go searching all over youtube to find a decent lesson on it and just wasted my time looking at this crap
Is it just me or does this guys voice creep me out? Hi Im rick toby from expert village, and I'm going to demonstrate how to lure little boys away from their mothers at neighborhood playgrounds...

This is a good video. Not all expertvillage video series videos are created eaqually: some of the 'experts' actually know what they're doing, and know how to produce a video.
Unless I am after something very specific, the less formal a lesson is the better I like it. Learning from watching others playing (rather than a formal lesson) is best of all - and a skill that makes every performance you see a learning experience that will improve your playing.
Good vid, I'll be watching and practicing this one.
Helpful but very vague on the fingering of the different chords. Beginners needs this information to make it work. Your playing was nice but not geared towards a beginner.
Why does anyone use Expert Village?... It's just the most useless site ever. It just looks like a place were people who don't know about Youtube want to look good.
Thanks Ric, just G-tuned my guitar for the first time and this has got me started. For others: Tuning = EGDGBD. G=X00000, G7=X05433 or X00033, C7=XX2310, D7=XX4530
Nice sound on the open chords. Not very clearly explained, and actually quite scratchy use of slide. I usually have found expert village videos to be more carefully made.
Well they do say "it's the thought that counts" although with intended instructional videos i have to say a little more to go on can be good - ie : as a learning aid, which is trying to show anyone inexperienced at something, anything they can use, this is pretty much a hopeless pile of w*nk ... otherwise exceptionally sterling performance - cheers !
That's unfortunate. I wouldn't pay for any of their lessons. I'm not the greatest, but I do show whatever I know for free, I would never charge anyone for my crappy lessons. Expert village sucks big time.
Pardon me but what exactly is the point of this tiresome flat uninformative "lesson"?
Strike another blow for blah expert village!
By Jove you've done it again!

Great lesson, thanks! Much better than the videos where they took an hour to explain how to play a chord or lick.

This video is great..
I play it for my son, who wants to learn to play guitar, and explain it will teach him Slide Techniques, and how to tune your guitar to Open G.
He watched it, and looks at me puzzled, he then asked me what was so great about it, as he learned nothing useful.
I then explain to him, this is what happens when you use drugs.

Expert Village should be ashamed of this lesson. This guy's a horrible teacher.

Way to actually show us how to play the damn chords. If you want to make a video of you freestyling on guitar, go ahead, but don't call it a lesson.
cheeserules5419 1 year ago
its hard to see the fingerings you use. should of zoomed in or something.
