buy a 100000 violin and have to insure it, keep the wood in the right humidy, and buy a case for it... or go to home depot with 20 bucks and get the saw And the toolbox to keep it in.
I don't understand why Simon Cowell buzzed him on the other video. This is amazing. A saw's purpose was not made for music, but he devises a way to play it in an extraordinary way.
@dra6o0n only because you grew up with people saying "violin is an instrument and a saw is a tool", it doesn t mean that this isn t art!....if it was for people like you violin wouldn t be an instrument! i can see it....1st time a musician played a violin: "ahah what is it?! you are playing wood and chord?"
This is sheer bliss. Only thing I don't get is.. who tried this first? And what possessed them to do so?! (similarly to eating yoghurt, making wine and cornflakes - google it.)
It's sounds remind me of a perfectly well-tuned violin in the hands of a perfectly capable musician. That should be a fitting praise for this amazing young man.
Close your eyes and what do you hear? Not a saw. This man has an amazing gift. Not commercial enough for Simon Cowell. Screw him, you go for it Austin!
I saw this is Bath in 1997, it's not an unusual thing, freaked me out then still does now, I wonder what brand of saw is used, what's it with B&Q and Homebase have they not realized they need to use this guy to advertize their saws
If he can play that saw as an instrument for a correct melody then he hav a great ear for the music, It is good he promoted the saw as a musical instrument but he is maybe wasting oportunity with that ear, ofc bcuz he is alone playing a saw when nobody teach him how, he discover it sounds and he copy or represent the sound he needs with the saw, got precision for notes thats enough for my argue
Fantastic! This guy has an amazing talent, there is no fret board on a saw. Simon Cowell couldn`t make any money from this act on BGT so he buzzed him. You go Austin and prove him wrong.
@miketravis you nailed it. simon cowbell, all this guy thinks and cares about is money. he explicitly tries to point out that money=happiness.maybe he'll spend his next life as a beggar. austin's playing is priceless.
Austin you're a genius and a pioneer. Over the next few 100 years, people will pick this up and develop even greater sounds from this instrument, as you are demonstrating are possible. It's like the ultimate combination between a violin and a soprano singer. On behalf of the musical community, I praise your innovation, may you be remembered forever!
The chap must have really excellent ears to be able to produce sounds like that.
To play a note on the piano, you hit the right key, sure got the note. But on the saw, you have to memorise every bends, lengths, twist and position of the bow.
And If simon cowell cannot see that, then he knows nothing about music, all he knows is how to make money out of other peoples talent that sells.
All he cared was big bucks.
Anyway, MUST the saw be complete with sharp teeth to play this music?
it is a musical saw, not the standard construction saw....no teeth, the metal is thinner to bend, and the metal blade is constructed in a fashion for easier bend
Many years ago, and I'm going back over 50 years now, I saw a man play the musical saw on a standard Spear and Jackson handsaw. They were much more flexible than the present day hardened point saws. He would use his bare hand to make the "S" shape. More recently I have seen a street performer in Bath play a similar saw although with a lever to help bend the saw. You cannot play a modern saw, but many a fine tune can be played on an old one.
I can only say: incredible!!!!
