  • HenryvKeiper, you've found your niche. Great work.

  • Spartans from a graphic novel meet the real British Empire with a soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails the Fragile. I think my brains just melted from all the genre crossing.

  • Very bold! Zulu is one of my all time favorites. Well done all in all.

  • Difference between Spartans and the British - The British WON when massively outnumbered, and did it without posturing while stripped to the waist!

  • @Inthedark264 The British had guns and massive resources though ;o

  • @mymarkis666 I wouldn't really say they had overwhelming force at Rorke's Drift.

Anyway, throughout history the British always do badly when they should win, and always win when everything appears lost

  • @Inthedark264 I don't know about that, the British did VERY well for themselves. It's astonishing to see there's still quite a bit of poverty in Britain, especially outside of England.

  • @Inthedark264 Depends on which battle. And the stripped to the waist thing is a modern movie invention, not reality.

  • Love how movies about the Spartans leave out the 800 Thebes and 400 Thespians that also stayed and fought.

  • @TheDevilsBusiness "Thespians" you say? I now have this mental picture of 400 effeminate characters mincing around the battlefield reciting Shakespeare......"To be.....or not......to be".....while the battle rages around them.

  • @Somnasticparalysis It is us who have built the Spartans into inhuman killing machines, but every fought the same on the Greek peninsula at the time. Thespians were hardly effeminate. I know we think of actors now, but they fought as hard as the Spartans and the Thebians as the rear guard. They just didn't have a bunch of self absorbed fellow citizens to yap about how strong they were.

  • @Somnasticparalysis Not hardly, they were slaughtered right along with the Spartans, who didn't last very long either.

  • Definitely one of your best ones! :)

  • Cool!

  • pretty cool

  • Outstanding!

  • Awesome mate well done

  • Lol, since when did the Spartans use superior technology on their enemies?

  • @mymarkis666 Uh, a Spartan IS a superior technology, ya dig?

  • @mymarkis666 Since they were using bronze shields and long hoplon spears... while the persians had a wet hankerchief and a toothpick...

  • That was fun. Keep it this way, HenryvKeiper ! ^^

  • HenryvKeiper, your vid's title read "Zulu a la 300". To me, that reads like a sentence written in french. Could you confirm (or infirm) ?

  • @Briselance It's a French term, but English speakers often use it as a joke.

  • @HenryvKeiper

Ah ok. Thanks for your answer. :-)

  • (Ok they're 100)

    (Ok they're 4000)

    :)

  • Bayonet techniques use the small of the stock and hand on the foregrip against Infantry, but the small of the stock and hand on the butt against cavalry. Against the Zulus the British used counter cavalry tactics to attain reach advantage over the mealie bags.

  • Well done.

  • hahahahahahaha legendary stuff big thumbs up

  • Hmm 100 British troops who have been drilled to fire from rifles in an entrenched position against 4000 Zulu warriors with spears and shields...

  • @CrazyShakaZulu Actually, most of the battle was fought at bayonet point.

  • @HenryvKeiper And at bayonet point, the Zulus had the advantage of shields.

  • @DonMeaker Mos' def'.

  • While I wish to take nothing away from the Spartans at Thermopylae, these British Troopers were one bunch of Bad Ass Mother Fuckers.

Too bad they mostly gave VC's to Officers or NCO's. I would kind of think more of the ordinary troopers also performed acts of heroism or two during this battle. (5 to privates, 2 to corporals, 4 to various ranks, basically, every officer got one).

  • Dude! That's brilliant!

  • good vid! big fan of zulu! :)

  • this is terrible you are making the british look like good guys. the zulus were really the ones in the spartan position.

the limeys were the bad guys

  • This has been discussed before, and you are not presenting anything new. The Zulus depicted here were a group who attacked a MISSION STATION/HOSPITAL, and WITHOUT ORDERS from their superiors. Rorkes Drift was also on British land, not Zulu land.

As I stated elsewhere, if the Greeks attacked a Persian hospital on Persian land, I'd side with the Persians. Please do further research before jumping on "evil British" bandwagon.

  • no no no. Britian is british land (wich should actually be england, scotland, wales, and ireland) Africa is not british land. they went their to take it over even if that was not zulu land (which it probobly was initially), it was some other tribe's land not british. the zulus saw what the british were going to do so they attacked them in defense not to conquer them so zulus good guys, british bad

  • They attacked a mission station/hospital? Dang, those sick soldiers and missionaries were a serious threat.

And again, they attacked without orders, because they had been absent at Islandwanda and wanted to get in on the fighting. One of the reasons they left was because they knew they would get in trouble once their commanders found out.

  • that hospital was on zulu land, those soldiers would be a threat after they are healed and they were because someone beat the zulus at rorkes drift. and what does it matter that they attacked without orders (how do you know that?) if country A invades country B is wrong for country B soldiers to attack country B soldiers without orders. i mean it might not be wise but it wont be wrong they have every right

  • @HenryvKeiper The men of each Zulu regiment were not allowed to marry until they saw combat. That led to a certain enthusiasm for combat by members of each unblooded regiment

  • @DonMeaker Heck, if I was in that situation, I'd attack a British outhouse :)

  • its called imperialism and most countries in the world have tried it, also we helped the africans we brought them european medicine and sanitation the same sort of things the romans did for us, unfortunatly we were 2 busy teaching them our ways to try and learn theirs as it could help us improve aswell

  • @umidontno040394 Actually the Zulus under Shaka invaded South Africa from further north, killing the men and taking over the women of the tribes they conquered. The British and Dutch colonists occupied mostly empty land, and with their different methods of agriculture, were able to make the new areas productive. Africans moved into the area. In response to raids by young Zulu bandits, Ceshwayo was given ultimata by the British, and Ceshwayo refused. The British attacked to enforce their edicts

  • Awesome job!

    Well done!

  • That is good mate. My ancestor fought and died in Rorkes drift, the film itself has hardly much truth in it but good one.

  • Henry .. interesting quite funny... the difference of course is that this battle really happened! 11 Victoria Crosses..

for a more indepth chat on this movie and 19th Cent imperialism come to Zulu final battle

  • The battle portrayed in 300 really happened too...though uh...with lots of creative licenses...

Although "Zulu" is the more accurate film by far.

  • Yes, could you imagine a new Zulu movie with giant oliphant style elephants and mutant Rhinos lol!

  • Now that was truly some amazing shit. "This is Sparta!!!" and they knock over the wagon! Wow man it was amazing! It easily gets 5 stars from me!

  • gd vid

  • The British were the Persians in this case, really.

  • See the conversation below regarding that. The Zulu forces here were attacking a hospital/church in British territory, and even without orders from their superiors. The British at Rorke's Drift were far from the Persians.

  • also the strategic importance of rorke's drift blocked the road to natals capital the same way thermopalye (F7) blocked the road to the rest of greece

  • Love the clip of Hook taking a drink in a burning building

  • LOL I LOVE THIS!

  • zulu

  • blooming brilliant.. well done

  • I like these editing movie mash-ups. Definitely an interesting choice, and well done!

  • thank you for doing justice to one of my favorite movies!

  • This was amazing!!!!!

  • south wales borderers, the 24th on foot go us welsh, lol

  • Awesome!!!

  • what is the name of this song? does anyone know of a site where i can download it?

  • You mean in the background? The entire audio is from the trailer for 300, I imagine the music is from the 300 soundtrack.

  • "Just Like You Imagined" from the Album "The Fragile" by Nine Inch Nails.

  • hmm.....Who would win a battle between the immortals and the zulus?

  • CHUCK NORRIS

(Sorry. Probably the Immortals as they have monsters and stuff)

  • MATT DAMON!!!

  • nicely done

  • 5 *

  • FRIGGIN HARDCORE!!!

  • That was awesome! Really funny too..nice job!

  • this is the best video on youtube man

  • Bloody brilliant! Zulus! Fahsands of'em!

  • XDDD Quite funny, even brilliant! Two thumbs up Keiper, you´ve made the last moments of my day.

  • Ha ha, thanks, I'm glad.

  • Difference is British were 109 verses over 5,000 zulu.

Spartans had 300 plus Thespians, Helots, phocians, and other greek allies.

So it was more 3000 than 300, but battle of Thermoplae was impressive, but Greeks lost it while Britain won.

  • but they had freaking bullets which double the man power wouldnt u say

  • Actually I believe most of Rorke's Drift was fought at the point of the bayonet. The real life defenses were a bit wider, though, so the bayonets could poke out at a safer distance than was portrayed in the movie.

  • no if it was the brits would have gotten pwned they could only beat zulus with firearms

  • Actually most of Rorke's Drift was fought at the point of the bayonet.

  • up close a british soldier would be no match for a zulu warrior. i'm sure they won just by shooting them

  • You dont actually know how it happened do you? You're just making assumptions based on modern stereotype views. The zulus feared the British bayonet and they ranked killing a red-coat with killing a lion. It was 4000 zulus vs 100 Brits and almost every zulu wave reached hand to hand combat with the red-coats. Thats why the hospital burnt down and the red-coats had to form an inner defensive line to retreat to. I hate retards who make insulting comments without knowing what they're talking about.

  • @thebigJM92 I hate people who use the word "retard".

  • @glasfurd31 That's a shame for you. Perhaps Youtube isn't the best place for your delicate mind?

  • @thebigJM92 It's sad. You make a valid point, a good factual argument, fine grammar ... you're obviously a smart guy ... and then you throw it all away with the r word. You're better than that ... use a different word ... fool? nincompoop? poltroon? Very disappointed in your choice of word.

  • @glasfurd31 You evidently didn't see the comment it was aimed at! Poltroon is certainly a fine word, but it was not strong enough to describe this joker. Besides, Youtube isn't the place for fine prose.

  • the zulu spears were 4ft long

the british rifles + bayonets were more like 6ft

so even at close quarters the zulus stood no chance

i think i read somewhere that most (possible all) british deaths were caused by the zulu gunfire not spear wounds

  • The British knew how to do many things, among which was to adjust their sights. They also had excellent bayonet drill, and behine a row of mealie bags were every bit the match of the Zulu. The Zulu shields didn't do much against the narrow bayonet spike used by the Brits.

  • @DonMeaker

also with a bayonet the rifle was nearly 6ft long while the zulus spears where 4 ft so even a close quarter the British has a range advantage

  • Research has shown the British fired thousands of bullets on their Zulu attackers. Most Zulus were killed due to rifle fire. Many more were wounded than killed however.

  • @CrazyShakaZulu REAL research has shown most of the battle was fought at the point of a bayonet. Common sense also tells us that, unless the Zulus did nothing the whole battle except dance in a conga line 50-meters from the British position, chances are they fought at fairly close quarters the majority of the time.

  • Not to mention that the zulus had more guns than the British at Rorke's Drift. They bought them from British and French merchants before the war. Please, please, please LEARN YOUR HISTORY!

  • boy u really need to stop having these political/historical trolls but it is funny when you do.

  • Oh come on bigrodgerb you know i cant stop myself correcting idiots who dont know what they're talking about

  • that is why it is funny to see your reaction to dumbarse comments posted by idiots. i like it when they tip the cart over that is hardcore.

  • You mean the "THIS IS SPARTA!" bit! That has to be the climax to this massively funny vid!

  • the zulus also had rifles

  • the zulus were also nicknamed the black spartans you know. they were incredible in battle and could run up to 50 miles in one day they were totally committed to their king and country. but cetswayo their king never wanted war he knew he'd lose and guess what britain forced it on him and Dabulamanzi one of his princes crossed the river and attacked rorkes drift when he was ordered not to.

  • *soldier picks up two sandbags* "We Spartans descended from Hercules himself." LOL!

  • @DSCH4 the mealbags used in the defence of rourkes drift in real history weighed 200 pounds each, and were manounvered into position by 2 men carrying each one, it was not possible for one even muscly guy as shown in Zulu to pick one up in each hand and sling them over his shoulders.

  • Nice vid

  • A great movie, a friend who has recently retired from the Australian Army told me that this movie was part of the training curriculum

  • Spartans were deffending their land... just like those Zulu's...

  • Actually Rorke's Drift was on the border, in British land, and was a church/hospital. The Zulus attacking were doing so without orders from their high command.

  • British land? really? Those Zulu's who invade Britainia...

  • It was British South Africa. Whoever owned it, it certainly wasn't the Zulus.

  • Again, Britain owned the land there and had so since the early 1800's.

And again, Rorke's Drift was a hospital/church owned by missionaries and filled with wounded or recovering soldiers. The Zulus attacking had not been at Islandwhanda and were looking for some action, and so attacked without orders. I can't sympathize with the Zulus at all in this situation.

  • I wasn't. This is called "satire". I took two movies and made fun of both lightheartedly, now some people are reading too much into this.

But since you brought it up, the Zulus, as said already, defended NOTHING at Rorke's Drift. They attacked a hospital/church outside Zulu territory without orders from their leaders. If the Greeks invaded Persian territory and attacked a field hospital I'd support the Persians.

Since you seem to keep repeating yourself and ignoring facts, you are now blocked.

  • God you're stupid.

  • It's called Britian, not Britania

  • Nice vid, but you shouldve put the Zulus as the spartans. Also, "they came from the blackness" hmm.

If you havent guessed already, I am Zulu.

  • I think you're looking into the blackness comment a liiiiiiiiiittle too much.

  • Solid gold

  • Well done. Wow, I always thought there were 200 British soldiers at Roarks Drift. How many casualties?

  • I could've been wrong. I've heard a variety of numbers from 100 to 115 to 200. Casualties as far as I know were somewhere between 15-20.

  • Great video :D I laughed hard.

BTW, your other videos are really nice also.

  • Perfection. :-D

  • that video provided a much needed laugh :)

  • I'm glad! :D

  • it's Wonderful!! I love Zulu!!Great Job!! My congratulation! Awesome

  • I would like to go on a safari in Africa and shoot Zulus. Does anyone know a good guide service?

  • Holy Crap Lions! Tours is rather good.

  • Great stuff! Zulu is my all time favourite film.

  • I've never seen either movie.

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe.

  • Saw both flicks - excellent editing. The ending was fantastic. Thanks for making and sharing.

  • No problem.

  • That was awesome. Good work!

  • Ahhaha! Genius!
