@Poizon2K8 Scottish Folds are not distinguished by coat colour, but by their ears, face & body. They get their name from a dominant gene that makes their ears bend down & forward; I think his owner clarified that Maru is the recessive "straight-eared" variety of the breed. He has a very flat, round face and round skull-- which is typical of his breed. I would suggest googling images for both "Scottish Fold straight" and tabbies-- you will notice tabbies have a more "wedge" shaped head & face.

Tabby's a coloration, many breeds of cats can have tabby coats. Maine coon cats are the ones with the distinctive "M" shape on the head.

I heard Maru is a scottish fold. There are scottish folds with straight ears. Good breeders will only a cat who carries the gene fold folded ears with one that doesn't have the gene to ensure the health of the kittens. Stastically this means only about 50% of the kittens will have folded ears, the rest will have straight ears.
