  • @halbrowne1

yeah, John played the riffing intro to the solo, but the screaching scream comes from george.

  • thats awesome dude great lesson man, I have been diggin this song for so long, thanks alot man, btw I love your guitar!

  • you talk too much!

  • dude is there like a waterfall behind u XDDDDDDD

  • @beetlebrains Eric Clapton did lead guitar on this, so he was probably using a strat

  • @Donutsmasher1 On the dirty mac recording/rock n'roll circus Clapton plays an ES335 and John played his casino.

  • sound is awful

  • what guitar is that i thought it was an es but then i saw the head stock

  • fuckin' awesome guitar!

  • what guitar is that?

  • It's a 1968 or so Kapa Challenger.

  • that s not realy the same like in real but u try

  • duh! you need two guitars

  • guitar please??? guitar please???

  • ohhh i see .. ok .. thanks

  • hey man you really rocks. coul you make a step by step vid .. please please

  • robetum, already done....check out part 2

  • too much talking.... but great vid

  • amazing stuff

  • Cool....years ago I had a Kapa Continental...my first guitar. What a piece of crap...but I wish I still had it. Here's a clue for you all....don't lend your guitar to a "friend"....he might just sell it...

  • is it just me or can you barely hear the audio?

  • It's not just you, it's really quiet :/

  • Ya sorry bout that. crappy camera I had when I made it didn't pick up my voice very well.

  • stop talking, and play

  • Good tutorial keep up with playing :)

  • can you talk louder next time please........good tutorial......

  • can you tell me the model of that guitar?

  • It's similar to color with Clapton's Gibson, buy yea different guitar. Mine is a 1968 Kapa Challenger. I actually sold it a few months back.

  • nice tutorial good job and finally nice guitar looks like the same model of Clapton's guitar on that yer blues performance

  • Again thanks for posting this, really really helped, i was trying to learn this by ear but i was missing the very very important change the 4/4 on the chorus THANKS ALOT!!!!

  • AWESOME Video dude, helped alot, THANKS, BTW do you have any other vids showing how to play and improv Blues???

  • That was awesome. Thanks for posting that. Great, great playing. You should do a tutorial video, even if it takes two parts. You would be doing a great service. I'd love to learn to play it, it's just too fast for me to pick up by just watching. If you have time to break it down, that would be great. Best version of the song I've ever seen. Thanks again.

  • You're very welcome. I have done a part two vid which gets a bit more in depth. Listed above as one of the video responses.

  • You look like George Harrison.

  • shit nice guitar

  • you really made a great job, im now trying to play like that, but if u can put some tab, u´ll help a lot .

  • good playing man, can u post some tabs for it?? thank you alot

  • where did you learn this, can you post the tabs for it?

  • I learned it from the record. I don't do tabs. I found a basic google for the tabs brings them up much like I play it.

  • Excellent playing old bean.

  • Also for you guitar wankers , the Beatles are a singing group, there guitars came second and as backdrop. So if yer lazy on the vocals try an easier band to cover.

  • They started as a singing group, then they became virtuosos with their instruments. Inventing about 40 or so new chords, that are EXTREMELY difficult to do and progress between them.

True, they're less guitar oriented than Led Zeppelin, but they used them for far more than back drop. Although, Jimmy Page has superhuman speed on the fret board.

  • Jimmy Page and superhuman speed? I wouldn't call anything done by the Beatles or Zep on the guitar "new" or "innovative" even for the time.

If you want to look at players that have mastered the guitar (some of them since the early 80's) look at guys like Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Joe Satriani, and Rusty Cooley. As far as technical players, those guys are just the tip of the iceberg.

  • Actually, they were far more innovative than all the people you cite.

Buckethead just has an epileptic fit on his kill switch and calls it original. As far as Yngwie "Douchey MCDouche" Malmsteem, his Arpeggios from hell are a perfect indicator of his lack of creativity. Jimmy Page and George Harrison laid the way for these soulless clowns.

Try actually playing the guitar with soul, not just mindless metal. Tapping isn't talent. And being a virtuoso doesn't matter if you're not creative.

  • The classic "shredding isn't music" excuse. You still haven't proven anything about George and Jimmy but you threw out a couple generic arguments for Malmsteen and BH.

You can't dismiss YJM because he is a douche. He is a douche that shits more musical talent than your brain could comprehend. You seem to have no knowledge of BH. He has released 25 solo albums plus the dozens of projects he has been involved in.

Does Satriani's music lack emotion? Keep your uninformed opinion to yourself.

  • My brain could is already in cinders due to the pure genius of people who paved the way.

As for the level of pretentiousness that is exuding off your last comment, I had all of Bucket Heads albums. (I went through a metal phase) And I've personally learned YJM because of the hell it is on my fingers.

You haven't made a genuine point either I'd still like to say that it is a lot tougher to make something out of nothing than following in the footsteps of others. But obviously it's an impasse.

  • But it doesn't really matter, both you and I are inferior to all the above guitarists.

I mean SRV, went out of his way to make playing more difficult. Whether it was switching an octave halfway through a progression or diminishing all scales in a way that makes no sense in classical guitar.

You and I are piss-ants no matter how big we inflate our comments.

So, why don't you and I just shut the fuck up?

  • he means talent isn't just playing hard and fast it is about emotion like you said. and im not saying none of the people you just named are untalented dismiss anyone in either lists but, harrison and page play with a meaning, what im trying to say is that there are a million different ways to discribe talent. and and HOW MANY OF THOSE MUSICIANS FROM THE 80S GREW UP LISTENING TO THE FUCKING BEATLES OR ZEPPLIN

  • I can definitely see where you're coming from, but no matter how hard they shred it will never mean as much to people as the Beatles have. Maybe Ringo lol, but there stuff doesn't compare to the others.

  • in fact the most common remark people make about those artists you mension are "wow, listen to that machine like speed, he must have practised alot, too bad its just mindless nothing" i think theres an issue when 80% of their fans are guitarists. the way they play its like a sport, a game of speed. music is in the melody, it doesn't matter how fast you play it, or on what instrument. these guys are missing this key point.

  • Mindless nothing? What if I were to say that the tempo of most Beatles songs is too fast? Does that mean it is mindless nothing?

Would you say Satriani is nothing but mindless shred? Have you listened to Buckethead's acoustic work? Yngwie may be a "douche" but the man is far more than a shredder. He is a true composer and if he was alive during the Classical/Baroque period we'd be seeing him in portraits right next to Mozart, Beethoven, and Liszt in museums.

  • the thing is mozart actually writes good melodies, which yngwie doesn't

  • NO offense dude, But you are wrong Yngwei did DOes right melodies, Far Beyond The Sun, Black star among others... Mozart is in another level of course.

  • buckethead..ba hahahahahahah!

  • Why do you laugh?

  • because your high! larious

  • The Beatles were tremendous guitar innovators, including Paul.Nobody had blended classical, jazz ,rockabilly, Indian single chrd, and standard blues progressions before them in such a beautiful and palatable to the masses manner, as they did. And nobody since.Shredding is baloney musak. Some could play actual good music, Satch for sure, and Petrucci. But the only true innovator among them was Vai who took guitar to a new level beyond just fast play with studio techniques to provide the lost feel.

  • Zeppelin and Beatles are much more innovative than those you listed below. In other words if there weren't Zep and the Beatles there wouldnt had been those guitarists.

  • when the beatles went to an adition to get on decca records they were told "guitar bands are on the way out, brass bands are coming in". when the beatles released love me do etc, people hadn't really heard anything like it before, the beatles musically were breaking new ground and considered to do so for the next 6 years. everyone copied their every move. the only guitar players i could think of pre beatles worth their salt, are the old blues men wandering over the same old scales....

  • The Truth. Yer rythms not too bad. could be much better though. As one can see. This is an easy song to do poorly. Not sayin you cant play , lets just say yer need more practice.

  • Nothing like it!! Just a similar blues riff but it certainly hasn't got the flavour of the Beatles Yer Blues.

    Shit shit shit shithouse attempt.

Don't get me wrong, he can play, BUT it's not YER BLUES!!!

  • felixq78.......please, put up a better video tutorial........:-)

  • burn haha

  • nice tutorial. is anyone else having trouble hearing the speaking at the beginning?

  • yeah, thought it was just me

  • Yes CAN'T HEAR THE MONOLOGUE AT THE BEGINNING SHEEEYAAAT CACAAAA!!!

  • Yea I'm sorry. The crappy camera I used didn't pick up my voice well for the first half of the video.

  • Class, saved me having to visualise the tabs, Thanks man

  • Cool vid!

  • This kicks ass. Best Beatles song ever and you got it down.

  • You play john guitar escelent. than's for postin' and

    George guitar ? xd

    Than's

  • a tossico chiacchiera de meno e facce senti de più!

  • uh....simpler please.

  • so is it E, B, A blues? Looks like it. Nicely played

  • yea thanks alot

  • yer blues part 2 posted...check it out.

  • New video...part 2 uploaded. :)

  • yea your playing is awesome! just need to explain and maybe get a close up on what you are doing with your fingers and that would be really good!

  • Thanks. Yea it used to be that you could right click on videos and zoom. What happened there? LOL. I've gotten quite a few requests to do another video which focuses on the licks ect. My camera died months ago. If I can find one to borrow I'll do a follow up vid.

  • Great stuff. Any chance you can re do as a lesson?

  • part 2 uploaded :)

  • That's great. Thanks a lot.

  • You kinda mixed john's chords with clapton's, so the part before "girl you know the reason why" is really wierd. but it should do probably fine live.

  • omg it looks like a epiphone casino and sg had sex and made your guitar! its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whats it called?

  • fucking nice guitar dude!

  • Or - "how NOT to play yer blues"...

  • no offense, but without actually explaining what you're playing, you shouldn't call it "how to play Yer Blues". If you want people to "just play it by ear", they can just listen to the album.

  • it was on the white album sillly

    =]

  • oopsies :P im listning to it right now =P

    im smart :D me sawwii

  • Great playing and l can get some of what you are doing, but how 'bout shooting another video showing a close-up of the fingering and slow things down and explain what you are doing.

Anyway thanks for posting the video.

    WRV

  • Sweet! I noticed the foul up on the video too, but I'll be damned if I can play it!

  • I just watched the Yer Blues - Dirty Mac video on youtube and although the time does change coming out of the solo I don't catch where your talking about Mitch Mitchell messing up or John Lennon and Clapton noticing anything.

  • Spot on man, and I'm not even British. Not many people can hear the time difference, you can. That's a gift man!

  • omg u should make and send me tabs PLZ!!!

  • I don't do tabs...........play it by ear

  • fucking badass

  • hey great version man sounds just like the dirty mac version. if you have the tabs could you please send me them.

    thanks.

  • speak up! I got my computer on full blast and still can't hear you.

  • Hey Kapa, anyone ever tell you that you look like George?

  • hey great job man,

i was wondering what is the make/model of your guitar?

    peace

    -pope

  • Thanks. The guitar is my 1968 Kapa Challenger.

  • u smoke weed? i do

  • ive always wanted to know the yer blues tab... great vid man!

    ur a savior of blues!!!!

  • nice chops brother..

  • there are a few tabs lurking, but most a pretty crap, but i can manage to learn from watching what he's playing =]

Got play Yer Blues in a few weeks for a college gig Dx

  • Good luck in the gig!

  • Where can i find tabs for this song

  • thats a pretty kickass version of yer blues

u should make a ver. with a backing track

  • Woa....I had no idea of the great youtube text fight that I was about to stumble upon. Keep up the good work guys.

  • Amazing how a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing...A guy puts up an innocent little post on how to play a song...does a great job ..and instantly you have Mozart and Beethoven...telling you {while sniffing}...that whilst adequate...not quite up to their exacting standards...while the truth be know ..everything theyve posted was right out of a "Music for Dummies" textbook...fuckin snobs anyway...get a life!

  • Personally I thought he did a great job. Even if it is not a perfect copy, I liked his take on it. Change is good.

  • Pete, I'm glad you and rocker like the vid. I do do my own take on the song. I've worked with a few musicians who would whine and moan if a song wasn't played just like the record. That would drive me nuts lol.

Obviously Lennon wasn't like that, otherwise the Dirty Mac and Plastic Ono band versions would sound just like the White Album.

  • Wow... where to begin?

    First, grammar doesn't encompass spelling.

Second, "Hooked on Phonics" has nothing to do with grammar.

Third, if it DID have something to do with grammar, I dare say it would differentiate between a comma and an apostrophe.

Fourth, I hate to break it to you, but, uh, when you post here? You're "speakin" [sic} to everybody.

Fifth, no one ever actively solicited ANYONE'S opinion here. However, that saucy little "reply" link seems to be there for a reason, eh wot?

  • thanks for the comment dude, really appreciate it,, btw u kick ass!

  • very nice and great improv i gotta say those little end guitar licks on the verses sound killer

    gj

  • You need to fix that turn-around riff - somethin' ain't right. ("If I [G] ain't dead already... riffy riff, riff-riff-riff...girl you know the reason [E] why.") See if this makes sense:

    -----7>5--4-3-2-

    ----------------

    --6>8->6--4-3-2-

Yours starts off kind of weird.

  • You probably cant play "Pop goes the Weasel" with a jack in the box...what the fuck do you know!

  • Hee hee! Cheers, big boy! That's even better than "can't play Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat" on a borrowed $75 ukulele." (But careful with that meth, Eugene - you sound a bit 'tightly-wound' tonight.)

  • dont be jealous...its so ugly!...cheer up...keep workin hard and youll be top burger flipper in your store!...hang in there1

  • Thanks for the tip! Now, Mr. ..."Rocker", is it? Mr. Rocker, tell us a little bit about yourself. You're a writer, no? No - you do a stand-up routine while finger-picking an EB-3? No..? then tell us. It's fun to read your posts! :-)

  • Sure do appreciate the good words ol buddy!...its not often I get such high praise from such incredibly witty people...such as yourself!....keep up the good work..you are truly a credit to Vanilla Ice , Wham, The Village People, Abba , The Bee Gees, Bay City Rollers, Patrick Swayze, David Hasslehoff and Shaun and David Cassidey....You are the Man!

  • Now, listen here, Templeton: Vanilla Ice haven't done anything worth a damn since "You Keep Me Hangin' On". And stop evading the question. Look - pretend you've spent all evening onstage at The Fillmore "rocking", your long, gleaming "axe" dangling suggestively at your thighs, wringing labia-throbbing feedback from the 19th fret. You're backstage ... "Tiger Beat" magazine is interviewing you ... they say "Mortimer, man, you're so keen - what are you REALLY like offstage?" You reply...

  • I reply Im Just like cch37204...his unflinching devotion to The Jonas Brothers and Justin Timberlake is truly an inspiration..and when hes not worshipping Britney Spears...he spends all his free time hanging in youtube making oh so clever and supremely funny comments...nitpicking at people with his truly superior wit....A legend in his own mind!

  • Self-pity does not become you, Feldspar, even when mingled with fawning praise. You disappoint me. Your mentor and soul brother, Emmett C. "Gasbag" Smellings, assured me you would rise, Phoenix-like, to a playful matching of wits, yet your retorts remain cliche'd, unfocused, and imbecilic. I cannot continue. I wish you the best of luck in your future career, and leave you with this:

    ------7>5--4-3-2-

    X---------------

    ---6>8->6--4-3-2-

    Sincerely,

    Alfred Neumann, Ph.D.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen...THE Shakespeare of youtube pompousity, arrogance and downright ill wind...In a world of public toilet stall graffiti...you sir...would be king!...I congratulate you ..on your almost uncanny ability to bore the reader into a catotonic state within seconds of reading the first word....kudos!

  • Uh, say, Mr. Wordmaster? 'Fore you go yapping about boring folks, would you mind doing us a solid by putting down your heretofore unused Bartlett's Book of Quotations and posting the lyrics to your hit song about Amy Poehler?

Oh, and it's "catatonic." Nice try, though!

  • Hey, Guys -

Sorry I've been kind of falling down on the job here. Been really busy today, getting ready for the weekend. I doubt I'll get a chance to reply this weekend, NSRocker, sorry about that! It's going to be hectic, though. I'll try and get back in the saddle early next week. Meantime, have a great weekend - be safe - grab some R&R (rock'n'roll, rest'n'relaxation, whatever! ;) and I'll catch you on the flip-flop.

    Best,

    CLH

  • who the hell pulled your string Mr. Webster?...If I want a grammar lesson I,ll get hooked on phonics...I dont recall speakin to you all...do you always just pipe in with your unsolicited opinons?

  • What's up with all this minor verbal abuse goin on on my video, lol. John wouldn't be happy. Give peace a chance my brothers. :)

  • Wow... where to begin?

    First, grammar doesn't encompass spelling.

Second, "Hooked on Phonics" has nothing to do with grammar.

Third, if it DID have something to do with grammar, I dare say it would differentiate between a comma and an apostrophe.

Fourth, I hate to break it to you, but, uh, when you post here? You're "speakin" [sic} to everybody.

Fifth, no one ever actively solicited ANYONE'S opinion here. However, that saucy little "reply" link seems to be there for a reason, eh wot?

  • Wow...goin around to youtube comments and correcting peoples grammar!...can your life be any more pathetic?...lemme guess...your 39..live in your parents basement...have real bad acne...work at McDonalds...still a virgin...drive a 75 Gremlin and collect GI Joes and Barbie collectibles....

  • Waaaaaaaah! I'm tellin' Mama! Funny, but your "scathing" responses seem to have a predictable pattern to them. Y-you're not just some computer somewhere, are you?! Wait, no. Even a computer would be too embarrassed to post a song that includes "Amy Poehler, I'd like to pole her." Anyway, Hoss, you're right about one thing: this IS a pathetic pursuit. So why are you even engaging in it? Me, I'm off to sell my collectibles for thousands of dollars! Study hard in school! 5th grade's a bear!

  • Man you must be a barrel of laughs at a party dude!...my advice to you is to lay off the Chess Club meetings and Physics seminars and drink a 6 pack and smoke a fatty...Then {maybe} you wont come across as such an uptight, semi- intellectual, pompous ass bore..!...as for the Amy Poehler video...whos holdin a gun to your head to watch junior?

  • Dear Puddin',

Sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities!

As for holding a gun to someone's head to watch that video, you make an excellent point... let's hope they use it down at Gitmo! :) :) (elusive double grin!)

Seriously, keep up the good work on the tunes (I hear Weird Al is looking for a pool boy)!

See you at the next party! We can put all this ugliness behind and... what was it? Oh yes, "smoke a fatty." Cheers to ya, Chester!

  • Actually CLH I think your tab is a little off? It's just a simple lick on the G & E strings and both notes are always on the same fret all the way through. Start on the 7th fret and slide to the 6th. Then as on your tab go from 4th 3rd and 2nd fret. Like this...

    G---7>6--4-3>2

    B-------------

    E---7>6--4-3>2

    EEEEK I wrote a tab.....LOL

  • I have to disagree - I hear a gliss from 6 to 8 on 3rd string (2nd finger); let that ring; fret 1st string at 7 with 1st finger and pick that. Now you have maj3 and root of a B chord. Let them ring and slide the formation down two frets (now you have, in effect, an A maj). THEN go to your 4x4 (dominant and maj3 of E chord), and take that formation down a step at a time to 2x2 which is ambiguous (could be D, but is more strongly B7). Your version, starting at 7x7, sounds like Bmin, not Bmaj.

  • (All IMHO, of course ;-)

  • CLH, I'm a longtime musician and a humble guy, so I can admit...your right! I do start the lick with a minor configuration rather than a major. Maybe subconsiously I wanted the lick to sound dirtier? Good call.

If you want to put up a short video response doing the lick that would be cool.

  • What YB sounds like to me is a 12-bar blues that's gotten the Beatles treatment in its meter, chord sequence, and lyrics. But suddenly, at the turn-around, here's this thoroughly cliche'd classical blues lick and the wonderful meaningless rock lyric "girl, you know the reason why." Just fits with my idea of Lennon's sense of humor. That's why I think that section needs to stay an unembellished cliche, for the joke to work. (But I can imagine Lennon nasally dismissing this as "utter rubbish")

  • But now I'm clearly in the realm of subjectivity, and I also get your "dirty" take on it. If I can figure out how to record a video response, I'll post it. And now, I'll leave the poor dead horse alone ;-)

  • Didn't expect it to be note for note, and I got a LOT of good licks out of it. Considering that the "band" was a single instrument it worked well for me as I'm going to be adapting it for a solo acoustic (possibly with a friend on another). I think it's all I need. My only complaint is my speakers don't quite go loud enough to hear some of the verhage at the beginning. That's a tech problem though. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It helped a lot.

  • Yea I'm sorry. I had a rough time getting my camera to record what I said, loud enough. Cheapo camera, lol. But I'm glad you liked the vid overall Martin.

  • Can you pass me the tab?

  • I'm sorry man, but I don't do tab. I appreciate the comment and the other recent posts. Yea, the guitar is cooool. Cudo's there. I don't take any credit. It's just my favorite John Song. Him and the band in a small room. The ultimate Beatle recording. It don't get any........

  • Love your guitar man, I have an Epiphone Casino Natural Burst, just like John's. Great Lesson. Thanks for uploading.

  • shit man, u play so fucking well and that guitar is just my dream guitar.

damn thats some seriously good skills u have there and what an amazing guitar

keep it up rock n' roll buddy

  • TOP MAN.

  • That was killer dude...I thought I was playin it right the whole time and I defintely wasnt...Thanks for the post...im gonna practice!

  • amaizin men i wanna play whith you guitarr jeje

    byeeeeee

amaizin how you play the guitarr

    long live rock and roll

  • NIce Video!!! congratulations!

  • Really, your good. Those people saying otherwise don't know. Your a player. I can tell by the way you strum, good timing too. Yea, rock it up. You know the reason why!!!!!!!

  • yer yer get on with it

  • Serious swing and a miss. One "trick" YOU might want to try, is go back and listen to it. Maybe it has been awhile since you have. Also, substances and playing don't mix, regardless of what you learned back in the day. GREAT GUITAR THOUGH!!!!

  • Lol, really? What did I miss? That's pretty much the whole song. If for some reason you don't like my playing style, than put up your own video and better it. Love to see & hear it! :)

  • You youtubers crack me the hell up...you sit there on your little highhorse and act like the premier expert on every note played on the guitar in rock and roll history..ready to be hypercritical of any mistakes..when the truth be known..you probably cant play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on your borrowed $75 Cort...I think the guy did a great job Mr Van Halen, thank you very much!....ps cant wait to see your earthshaking vids in the future...im sure they are as perfect and flawless as you are!

  • yeah man!

  • sick guitar! what kind of instrument is that?

  • It's a Kapa Challenger. Made in Maryland, bout 1968. Fastest neck in the world at the time!!

  • It's simply wonderful.

  • dude, 1 mnt. of this video is just your face talking crap...

  • good sound, nice guitar and graet job! where can I find this tab or partiture? I found some tabs but most part are wrond or incomplete. could you help me? sorry for my english!

  • Kapaman; Great job, and more important your timing and steady beat. I dont see that much. Keep tearing it up!

  • nicely done, i love your Kapa, its a great looking guitar! Nice song selection, and I hadnt noticed Mitchells mistake until you pointed it out, but it sticks out like a sore thumb now.

  • hey, i like the guitar sounds.

    just what does it takes?

  • sounds exactly like the way lennon plays. i like it man sounds GOOD!

  • great song, very well played, could you make another tutorial, a little bit more detailed this time?

  • Really nice! I wish I could play like that.

  • too quiet

  • Not too bad overall, a bit poxy in parts.

  • thats not exactly how you play it

  • HI there. do you know the black keys? I think you gonna like them.. how do you get the distortion on the guitar. what guitar and amp are you using?

    Love and peace

  • I have seen the Black Keys. Gotta say I like the White Stripes much better. Jack White is the Man! Guitar is my Kapa Challenger. Amp is a MusicMan head with 4x10 Sunn cabinet and a Ross distortion pedal.

  • im not trying to bash you or anything but that's not the way the Beatles (Lennon) played it... especially the part before "girl you know the reason why"
