@ 0:23 the empty lot on the far right is the new apartment complexes that you have to pass to get into Laurel Hill Park and the backside of "painted rock" (or "graffiti rock" as some people call it). This area is right across the road from Exit 15X of the NJ turnpike.
I'm flying to Newark airport end of June from Manchester England on the way to Florida...I'm travelling alone to meet friends in Florida and I just hope I get on the correct connecting flight!!! lol.x
im no expert but im sure it was a good landing but from an averages person point of view if you ha have a rough landing an on impact see some smoke you would be a little scared lol
Nice approach!! I've heard Newark is a reaonably challenging approach. So well done, Capt. I fly 777-200ER but have a friend that flys the 767-400ER. Great aircraft
It is challenging. I'm not a pilot but I know that it's hard to land at simply because you have New York City to the east, Newark to the north, Elizibeth to the south, and moutains to the west.
don't you think when 10 tires on a boeing 767-400er go from 0 to 170-mph in less than a second that there might be a little burnt rubber, its nothing to do with its rate of decent. just fyi
no i didnt mean that at all. just visualize what the wheels are doing... there are almost still in the air, then they hit the gound and instantly speed up to around 170. that causes the "burnt rubber" and smoke and its quite a nice landing not hard at all.
I'm not stupid I know what happens when the wheels touch the ground. All I was saying in the original comment is that it was cool that you saw the smoke. Thats it. No need for you to reply. I guess you miss understood me.
The landing was a bit hard as you can hear in the cabin. I have been in B767's many times and the sound came from that cabin showed a bit or a hard landing.
forgive me but you sounded very confused as to what i had stated in my first reply, so i clarified, i apologize I tent to find and correct mistakes. sorry for correcting you, there was so misunderstanding.
At 2:32, that is the turnpike/78 interchange, exit 14. The ramp that goes to the bottom of the screen goes to 78 west, and thats how you drive to the airport. The ramp going away from you is the Bay Extension of the Turnpike, it goes over the Casciano Bridge you can see in the distance, then exits 14A for Bayonne, 14B for Jersey City, then 14C for the Holland Tunnel to downtown Manhattan.
i always think they land on the wrong runway at newark they should land on 4L and takeoff on 4R as if theres a queue al there often is on 4L to take off the landing plane is left for ages waiting to to cross it
so sorry you thought it was a 'dump' just where you were looked like one because its the TURNPIKE right next to new york city. new jerseys my home; visit more than northern new jersey and THEN call it a dump
Yeah, well Newark Airport was the first commercial airport in world and America and the ONLY airport in the New York city area for many years before JFK (Idlewild years ago) was built.
I live just 15 minutes from this airport and only just 3 miles west of NYC, Bred, Born and Raised in this area all my life especially with the Newark Hub itself u name it!!!
Great vid, hard landing and no offense but its NEW JERSEY not New York, everyone says its ney york because its in the area and the NY/NJ port authority runs it. but its NEW JERSEY
How come everytime I take off from Newark the skies aren't blue and almost cloudless, i'm 5 for 5 taking off in pouring rain and wind w/ 1 emergency landing under my belt
Newark has so many runways going in all different directions, the main runway is east west going both ways for both landing and takeoff, then thiers one north south, Newark is such a busy airport and the taxi'ing time can be very long waiting to take off, I found it's better to take off in the afternoon from Newark, maybe you'll be #4 in line for take off vs. a 9am take off where you can be #30 in line for take off.
The airport is located right near the water, and is very prone to hard landings do to turbulence. My girlfriend works for the TSA, and she said delays of 20 minutes due to wind are not unheard of several times a week for most of the day. Case in point, i flew back to EWR from puerto rico, and w actually were about 10 minutes early because of the route/wind pattern, but the last 10,000 feet were pretty rough. Ended up 2 minutes late from wind delay.
It was actually at night, and if we had been able to see more, people would have realized ( had a window seat in back of the wing) that we were having a pretty severe crosswind correction, smooth landing though!
my friend jim is a pilot, and he lets me fly with him all the time in newark. its the best ever, and we always end up performing a "slip" landing (when the plane is virtually sideways due to crosswinds) which is really fun.
Ohh.. I wish that could be me :) I wish so much that i could come to Newark NJ :D But it's pretty expensive! because i'm from Denmark, and it's pretty expensive to take a trip to the U.S :'( I hate my father! he's going to Colorado with his work next year :'( and I could'nt come with him *CRYCRYCRYCRYCRYCRYCRY*
OMFG.. nice vid... this brings back memories when i used to live in New jersey(EDISON)... everytime my family went to IKEA i would look at teh planes in the airport..
It is still a "new york area" airport, and is operated by the Port authority of new york and new jersey, a bi-state agency. Also, it's ~ 3 miles from NYC. yeah I have the same story as xnyrocksx, in fact, the planes that are flying into EWR come right over my house everyday, you probably flew over it during this landing
The one and only time I visited the States I landed and departed from Newark - in the dark. Thanks for letting me see what it looks like with the lights on!

And I knew some one would comment on that.
It was meant to be 2 different comments. I just said you could see the smoke as a comment not relating to the plane being brought down hard.
I think you meant 170 to 0 MPH because when you land you want to go slower, right?

No, but when people say an airport is a certain miles away from NYC, they are referring to Midtown or Downtown Manhattan.
Even JFK and LGA are in Queens, and thats NYC, but the distance again would be between Midtown or Downtown Manhattan and either airport.
