  • I'm just amazed to see a Tornado in the UK. Has nothing on the American one though lol

  • I don't get this, why aren't people like OMGOMGOMG TORNADO!

I mean, why aren't they reported more in the UK? Do they ALL touch down?

  • @b9y generally because we haven't seen one before, they are pretty rare. No they don't all touch down, but the ones that do aren't very strong

  • aprently theres one coming to north yorkshire on monday and its suposed to be real bad but i saw one of thoses last year but it didnt come dawn

  • I saw something like this while I was in birmingham at easter! Had no clue what it was! Well now I know!!!

  • It looks like my boyfriends penis...

  • Great video. I am currently collecting good examples of UK weather clips. If poss could you message me with regard to this vid?

  • I just out ran the f-5 that hit Joplin when i was driving through it was scary and HUGE so yeah that was the 4th tornado i have seen in my life but the biggest

  • Wow. Cool. I saw one way back in the 80s down in Folkestone on the S/E coast, it was a skinny twisty waterspout about 400mtrs off shore and died off when it moved over the harbour area. And no one got a picture of it! Doh!

  • I never get a chance to see this wonderful form of nature!

  • omg

  • My dad drove in the tornado once with me, nearly all the windows smashed and then my dad just hammered it down the road to get out of it.

  • @TheJumpBike lol brilliant

  • @flupmakintosh, in fact, for its size england has the most tornadoes anywhere in the world.

  • @flupmakintosh

the u.k is the worlds tornado capital (guiness world record book 2009)

  • it would be nice to see your house get destroyed by mother nature...after all, so many white british folks marry our beautiful indian girls

  • @OldaurGold lol, random! Besides, you're Spanish aren't you?

  • you are the biggest dumbass

  • thats a baby tornado thats about a f1 maybe f0 we get f 5's that are 2 miles wide and stay on the ground for 9 hours

    in oklahoma

  • remind me to never visit hell on earth.. aka oklahoma D:

  • its just a funnel cloud since it didnt touchdown.

  • unusual for this size? But its a little tornado....this is big?

  • It was on the ground when I saw it but by the time I had parked my car it had lifted..........

  • if its a tornado how come it didnt touch down

  • I don't think that was a tornado, it looked like a funnel cloud cos it didn't seem like there was any contact with the ground, no debris cloud either. Might be wrong tho. Either way, very cool, wish I could see something like that!

  • Never seen one in my life, how the fuck did you manage that on such a small land?

  • in the world? what about Tornado alley in america?

  • Hmm, spongersurfer said 'per [s]quare mile', so tornado alley in america may have a greater number of tornadoes in total, but over a much greater area of land than tornadoes in the UK.

  • @whato1986 I just deleted my last comment my accident! But yes, this is correct :-)

  • @spongersurfer That's cause we rule.

  • i live in england and since i was born theres been about 10.... so you flopped lol. ive neva even seen 1 thats why when im older i wana go to oklahoma and live there till i see and record an F5

  • theres been 10 where? there are around 40 a year in the uk

  • same i live in the uk once when i looked through my living room window with my mates we saw a funnel from a tornado shame i didnt film it

  • yea, a tornado this size is rare in the uk... but you'll be lucky if this was all that happened in parts of the U.S.

  • That isn't a tornado, It's a tailcloud.

  • i was driving up the m40 and saw this very same tornado....i was chuffed :-)

  • Are you sure this isnt a landspout?

  • now why can't tornados hit in the manchester/stockport area -.- one of the things i wanna see before i die is a tornado -.- then again i think i saw one when i was 5 or it might of been me......i dunno

  • i saw a funnel cloud form over the river tay beside Dundee was amazing to watch and there was a small tornado that struck the sidlaws just north of dundee..........theyre amazing things

  • we never get big tornados mostly little ones

  • Do You Live In England ;; ?

  • yes

  • i wanna see 1!

BTW SonicGeneration we dont need your childish comments

  • I was there when the twister was reported, about 20 miles away from the scene.

  • i've seen a tornado and felt an earthquake in england! england. boring? no. thank the lord that our country and people don't have to experience the monsters they get across the pond.

  • i was in the earthquake zone in Lincolnshire-it was wicked!

  • F2 is the strongest messured in the Uk in the last 10 years In the US they get over F3 a few times a year. Had two funnel clouds in Lancashire England this week had one near my town a year ago too that touched down and relocated a shed.

  • this is a very very rare site in uk i live in uk and i really wanna se 1

  • any actual footage of a tornado in england? or just funnels

  • im from rugby about 20 miles from wellsbourne, where abouts was you going?

  • Heading towards Kineton on the Kineton Road. It was really close and was travelling really fast!

  • Tornadoes in the U.S are worse because of things such as the gulf of Mexico and you have a warmer climate than Britain. But, Britain has more tornadoes per sq mile than the U.S because of our position on the planet. (They are a lot weaker and scientists claim that most go unreported)

  • Good info thanks. might use that in my geography weather project. No joke!

  • now they are weak. but over like 6 years, whe all are going to meet a real tornado and supercell. believe me;) the weather changes

  • true the strongest are in the US, Canada and India in terms of tornado strength but overall most tornadoes in those places are still f0-f1

  • Wanna talk about a freak tornado? Salt Lake City Utah...1999. Video is here on YouTube.

  • I'd say Greensburg, Kansas.

  • Is this a real tornado that drop from mesocyclonic storms or a landspout? It looks weak.

  • Are tornados in the US are way worse than that!

  • lmao was that a question or a statment? haha i think here in the US are way worse

  • Simple answer: most of the time yes! You don't take shelter in your own home you drive away because they will level the structure and toss you miles away like a rag toll.

  • I was amazed as never seen one for real before... we see the ones in the States on TV here!

  • ya the can pick up big trains and trucks

  • @spasticATNiGHT Considering that 200+ plus people were killed this week I would say yes.

  • @spasticATNiGHT and your proud of that? lol, I'd rather have a small tornado than a huge one that kills over 100 people tbqh :S

  • @spasticATNiGHT yes that is very true but....ITS A TORNADO IN ENGLAND!!!!!

  • The tornadoes here in the US tend to be so horrible, and do so much damage, we never used to hear about the twisters you all get - as if they didn't happen. Until recently, I truly thought you were lucky, and didn't get them in the UK. Well, I don't think a tornado is anything to brag about, whatever their number or their strength! They are terrifying, and I'd be happy to move to any place that never gets them - only I don't think such a place exists on earth!

    Good video, though!

  • to us brits, our cute little weather patterns and land movements are something to love. for some reason we feel the need to brag because the uk is verry stable and uneventfull. 2007s tornadoes were cool and the earthquake we had a few weeks ago got everyone exited about it, even the radio!

  • Ah, I see what you mean, since you've mentioned earthquakes. Where I live we only get mild ones, and rarely. They don't scare me the way they should, because they don't do the kind of damage that happens in Japan or Chile or California. The little temblors we get here in Michigan are just conversation pieces, you might say.

  • lol, there are plenty of places that are uneventuful so, anything that happens makes for a convorsation

  • to be fair, you guys in the USA dont hear anything that isn't to do with america.

but yea, we rarely get any servere weather luckily.

  • Yeah, we don't even get to hear things that are of vital interest to the USA - unless it also serves the interest of big corporations that want to rule the world, starting right here. Mostly we get distraction stories, like which celebrity is losing custody of her/his kids, and who's sleeping with whom. Important stuff like that. 8/

  • That is true, but never wish that the type of tornadoes that hit the US hit London because it would make hurricane Katrina in NO look like a sun shower.

  • It's all well and good watching them on video, but you cannot even begin to imagine the sense of awe when you come round a corner in Chatsworth in your car and see one 250m on the hill. Absolutely amazing.

  • good tornado

  • ---Reply to jcarnac----

i thought funnels are the tornado and the cloud around it is just debre of dirt and objects it picks up.

    ----------Any Whoo----

English houses can stand tornados well sorta way we build our house's to who say why dont U.S.A or other places do it because our houses are built to keep the cold out and hot countrys like U.S.A need build so heat can escape.

    Makes sens huh?

  • the uk has more twisters per lad mass than any other country in the world even more than the US we just get small 1s

  • actually, it is spotted funnels, not tornadoes.

  • yup you're correct jcarnac. it's just deceptive because we're such a small country ^_^

  • it's not a tornado until it touches the ground, otherwise it's just a funnel cloud

  • woo 17th of agusust is my birthday xD

  • LOl in uk we dont have that and we are glad ... so why you americans wanna brag about it not long til you get suked into one! ;)

  • England gets small little ones, America gets em of all sizes and France/Belgium/Netherlands area once reported the largest Twister seen in Europe as an F-5. (Strange for the area)

  • look like yall have the tiny ones(uk) unlike the big kahunas in the midwest(us)

  • Ukipodder says that it is unusual to witness a tornado of that size in the UK. I agree, I have never seen a tornado that small before.

  • I saw this exact same funnel and luckily enough the next day(18th august) we had another in the same area but nearer to warwick. I've got some photos of it so i might upload them onto a vid for everyone to see!

  • 18th august is my birthday. Why is that trippy?

  • It's been crazy weather in UK hasn't it! About 5 or more tornadoes in one day! WOW!

  • in the US, that's a slow tornado day

  • Yes. What a wimpy pastey tornado! That thing needs to eat some limes or something!!!

  • I laughed when I saw this

  • Thats not a Tornado, its a type of cloud formation that looks like a Tornado called a Funnel Cloud. Made the same way but doesn't have the energy or micro-climate to reach the ground and create a tornado, so kinda less scary.

  • drummerwoo yes there was an f6 tornado in manchester last season alex fergusons half time teamtalk in the champs league lol lol lol

  • Hey this is drummerwoo...On another account, Thankyou for replying :D I never heard about that tornado though!

  • very different from the tornadoes in america

  • Oh really boo hoo. As this is UK you tube what relevance is that statement?

  • that's a stupidly harsh reply.

  • I had to drive like a maniac to take this video as I wanted to film it as it was travelling along the ground but I didnt have time to catch it unfortunately

  • Hey can anyone answer this question for me...Has there been any tornadoes in manchester before?? please can you tell me, i'd really like to know

  • There was one in 1996, it was an F2. Didn't do much damage, but it was on the ground for about half an hour. It was a finnel tornado which eventually turned into a rope. I think no one was injured or dead.

  • In response to Scotteh2k6's comment...

Those figures are way off! We get on average a few hundred funnel clouds every year, but only around 33 tornadoes anually, that's one every eleven days. But yes, we do get more than anywhere else in the world, considering landmass. USA would need an average of 1255 a year to get more than the UK.

A funnel cloud becomes a tornado if (1) it touches the ground or (2) a debris/dust cloud is visible beneath it. If neither happens, it's just a funnel cloud.

  • oh okay fair play ioi

  • nice shot! please check out some of mine sometime,

    i have atleast 3 online! =)

  • Good video, shame it was so short. Has anyone got anymore vid's of UK twisters, especially the Keynsham/ Bristol funnelcloud from last summer, it was amazing.

  • Twisters in uk,cool, we have them here in -Norway too.usually 100-1000 twisters pr year.. One actually hit in oslo last summer.. hehe F1-F2..some dammage on houses and powerlines and barns

  • The UK actually gets more tornados per square foot of land than anywhere else in the world.

  • i saw two tornado's in essex england in 1996. They were right over our house bout never touched down thankfully. It was quite scary and i was shouting at my dad to get in the car and drive away. Also i had just seen the movie twister.

  • Never try to outrun a tornado in a car. It's always best to seek shelter on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

  • Beautiful

  • that was actually a funnel cloud, its only a tornado if it touches the ground. But good footage anyways. Oh and the UK has just as many tornados per square mile as the USA. Just being that the UK is smaller we don't witness them, but we have quite a few water spouts every year and over 500 funnel clouds per year

  • It was touching the ground but it took me a few minutes to get a safe place to stop my car & take the video!

  • oh okay, fair play lol

  • it touched down

  • Any more uk tornado videos?

  • I wish I had some more, I take my camera everywhere I go but it isnt very often I ever get to see anything as spectacular as the Tornado.

  • I wish there were but the only ones I've found to date are this one and a video of one at night where you can hear it passing by closely (link in my favourites). If you know of any more I'd love to hear about it! :-)

  • Tornadoes aren't that rare in the UK, we have over 10 thousand a year according to some programme I watched, only 85% of them never touch the ground.

We had 3 tornadoes in Leeds yesterday (14th September 2006), 5 minutes away from my house, was quite breath taking to see one for the first time.

  • As a UK citizen I'd love to see one too. My ideal tornado would be an F4 suddenly forming over the Labour party conference.

  • One of my ambitions in life is to see a tornado. And it's ironic that although 3 have hit where I live I didn't see a single one! The most I've seen is the funnel forming but it dissipated well before touchdown. Awesome video though, I wish I could have been there.

  • yeah i know, apparently there are an average of 33 recorded Tornados per year here, and most likely more that are not spotted. I'd really like to see a tornado upclose too!

  • Doesn't look as if this one touched down too! :) Hehe I saw one in North London in 1998! :P

  • rare to have one in britain. i've been lookin for footage of this one ;)

  • One of the more unusual meteorological facts is that Britain has more tornadoes per unit area than any other country in the world. :-)

  • In an average year, about 1,000 tornadoes are reported across the United States,

  • I was amazed to see it........... I missed a lot of footage as I had to park my car safely before filming!!
