  • I have an F1 6 inch male that i have bought 5 F1 females and right before they spawned he killed them and i am trying to get a hold of some wild females his size do you think they will withstand him and actually breed with them. He is stunning and one of the best looking venustus i have ever seen he is 6.5 inches, if you would like a pic i will gladly put one up

  • I notice one of my female yellow cichilids has a mouthful of fries in her mouth. she has not eat for over a week and continues to keep fries in her mouth. she has not release the fries yet. i am afraid other cichilids will eat the fries when she releases them. Please tell me what I should do?

  • @jaill2hell

I have never had an AG" cichlid before, but I suppose it's breeding needs are the same as all other cichlids. The male already has his colours and is ready to breed, also digging holes wich is a good sign. Males reach their spawning age earlier than females.. the females would need to be nearing 12cm to breed. Sounds like you have alot of fish... make sure your not overcrowding.

The fish need to have privacy and security thus the cave. Do thorough water changes, warm temp at 27C.

  • @16506246 i will late u know how the things go with my AG and is nice to see that u help ppl around i see u answer my ppll thx ur nice and i hope i can pay u back one day:)

  • wats the temperature of the water?

  • @camotharpo

I am doing my breeding in a 55gal. 30 is a bit too small, you could get away with it for a while with 1 male and maybe 1 female while fish are under 7 inches, You would have to prepare to move them out when they get any bigger.

The males are able to spawn before getting colour, but its hard to tell if so until they do show colour at around 4-5 inches.

In my xp, the females need to be 5 inches to breed too.

  • i have jewel african cichlids. about 3 inches long and they layed about 60 eggs but i only find 10 or 15 hatched. do you know what i can do to have more hatch? or have more that survive? it looks like you had alot survive. i just let them hatch in the tank without any nets or anything.

  • do you need to put them in the fry net or what and how is it like to raise the what did u feed them when born

  • can i clean my aqyuarium while there are eggs?

  • can i clean my aquarium even if there my cichlids are taking care of eggs?

  • @joyski12

depends on the types of cychlids. For all my mouth breeding cichlids, I constantly move them around from tank to tank, do water changes etc... they still hold the eggs in mouth safe and sound. I actually found that doing a water change every few days after the eggs hatched, some will escape out of the mother's mouth and thats when I know its time to seperate fry from mum.

  • CAN YOU HELP,, I think that i have the same fish as the ones you have in your tank but i know there is another species that look very similar. could you please have a look at my vid and see if you can tell me if all my venustus are females

    Thank You

    jmsball ( you tube user)

  • @jmsball

they all look like females at the mo... they stil small in the vids tho.

give them another inch or two before a definite sexing.

  • How big do they have to be before you start seeing the difference between male and female?

  • @smartass2st I have had my 4 fry since 1 inch. now they are 4 and still no sign of colouration.

I had bought my first male venustus from shops with colouration already and it was about 5.5 inch.

  • what did u feed ur baby venustus to grow so fast.....cause i keep my baby cichlid in ah 55 gal.

  • 5/5 for sandstorm and such a wicked fish.

  • 1:36 holy shit lol

  • is it better to seperate the babies from the mum?

  • super!!!OK

  • Clay pots makes the male turn into a horn dog, thats the best advice I can give.

  • Hey, can I ask a dumb question....how did you get all the fry into the nets?

  • u dont u put them in a liek a ice cream cantainer with the female in it untill it pits them out then take the female out

  • i love the right hand side of the aquarium when it said 'tank division'!

  • what song is that????

  • where did u get this tank divider from?

  • bitching love the song and the fish great vid

  • can anyone tell me how to breed them??

  • look it up

  • wow amazing... did you monitor your water parameters?

  • song??

  • Word of advice to anyone who wants to breed any kind of fish. Never get a male and female from the same place. Get a male at one pet shop and female at another. Inbreeding fish over and over can give ur fish birth defects and they lose original value.

  • how do u know when they are gonna breed?

  • name of song??????

  • sand storm

  • how long did that take?

  • look at the pics in the begining of the vid dariolilgangster u should not have fish if you dont know what to feed them !!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey get video has helped heeps.

how much would you get if you sold those fish.?

    roughly..

  • good video. hey is it ok to feed them frozen blood worms??? and also how can you tell them apart from male to female. im trying to breed them.

  • they will tear up bloodworms. At about 2-3 inches the males will develop blue on their face and the females will not. Also the dorsal fin on the males is long and pointed while the females have rounded dorsal fins

  • @limpertf00 I know this is an old comment, but its actually not ok to feed them blood worms, check any forum, there is little or no nutritional value in them just fyi

  • @dariolilgangster dont feed them blood worms.

  • what did you feed them when they were little

  • frozen brine shrimp

  • how big will African Cichlids get?

  • it depends wat kind.the biggest cichlid in the world witch is a african cichlid is the EMPOROR CICHLID.but like electric yellows ive seen some at least 7 inches.

  • ha thats nice size for them i got bumbulbees about 10 inches in a 75 gallon

  • how big does an emporor cichlid get

  • muy bueno el video!

  • great video... how many gallon you use to breed and grow up??? you feed only with brine shrimp???

  • wow.. that's amazing.. how old will they be when they start to spawn.?? and did you let the babies out of the mom's mouth or did you let her release it by herself..? i need some tips.. i have 6 african cichlids.. they are all still babies.. about one inches long.. i'm thinking about 3 months of age right now and dont know when will they start to spawn so just wondering if your lil' ones spawn in your tank as well...

btw... nice tank.. they dont need sand to spawn right.? pebbles works fine..?

  • 100 fry? How many batches was that 3? I think the most I've gotten out of one of my cichlids was about 25 fry. Granted I've not bred my venustus, and they are quite large. Assume you bred them to sell?

  • One batch. The male and female were fairly large fish. There was AT LEAST 80 fry that survived.

  • that is amazing, must be very healthy adults. congrats!

  • how do you tell if they are male or female?

  • The males (when about 2-3 inches in size) have blue covering their face and they also have dorsal and anal fins that come to a point at the tip. The female does not have the blue color and has more rounded fins

  • yet again, another person who has fake plants. add some real ones and it will make your aquarium that much better. the plants aren't hard to care for, only needs 8 hours of light per day.

  • you missed the point of the video...

  • there are soo many of them...makes me get a headace looking at them all. all i want to say is awesome. check out my new mbuna video as well.
