What is it about this guy's accent that everyone seems to love? I don't get it. English is not my first language, so could anyone please explain why his accent sounds so appealing to you English speakers?
@Timrath It is probably because we don't hear this particular accent as often as, perhaps, we would like...:):):) English, as you know, is not a particularly "musical" language...This accent actually makes English somewhat musical...This is a Jamaican accent. Jamaica has the reputation of being a very happy, laid-back place (though it has a controversial history), so when we hear the accent, we think sun, sea, palm trees, sand, and generally a good time! :) :):) What is your first language?
Funny, how different the perception is when you come from different language backgrounds. To me, as an outsider, his accent sounds actually less musical than standard American English. To my ears, it sounds much stiffer than, say Texan. Which is funny, because I also understand that Texan sounds rather bad to native English speakers.
@Timrath PS: Many people think a German-accented English to be "harsh". I actually really like it! :):):) Of course, this could just be because my father's family is German (and all still there...)...:):):). The "stiffness" you hear in the Jamaican accent is probably the Irish influence. The "th" sound often gets said as a "t" or even "d" sound. But it is all "counterbalanced" by the lovely "lilt" that probably comes from the original language of the island. Sorry to be so long winded! :)
@Timrath I am an English as a Foreign Language teacher, so I am always interested in different accents etc...There are (last time I heard) 8 "Englishes" worldwide. Of course each English has different accents within it, which makes the learning of the language EVEN MORE difficult. I tell all of my students-and now I tell you-how much I admire them for learning English as a second (or whatever number) language because it really is an impossible language! :):):)
@Timrath There stupid that's all. Americans are so obsessed with accents cause they think there the only ones without one. It's funny. Americans have accents as well.
"began to speak many profane languages!" LOL, I wonder if there are UN Translators who speak profane languages for the benefit of the profane country representatives.
Just from the intro I got it ... they all live in the same house. Sitting around, watching this show, they got the idea to sue each other, because even if they both loose, they split 5k for their apperance. Smart :)
I'd like to kick her three times!!!!! Boy is she annoying!!!!!! Turn on the fake tears and think you can get whatever you want. Cement overshoes seems to be the solution to this crazy old lady.
she look like a fucking old ''demon'' trust me i know how these guyanese people stay and she don't like him for what reason i don't know but i know he is making her life miserable skunt and i believe her when she say he does put de music set in de hallway he and all he skunt too fucking wicked for doing that
Send this pathetic wretch of a woman back wherever she came from. If she was my mother in law I would like to do more than kick her, like dump her stinky ass in the river for the snails to eat,,,,,,, if they would even touch this stank!!!!!
@TheDrummerDude17 He might be jamaican but there are many islands in the caribbean where they al sound that way. Jamaica, barbados,Antigua, St Kitts etc.....
@TheDrummerDude17 lol if he were jamaican we would have barely been able to understand him lol...i'm from the carribean and i have trouble understanding jamaicans...they're guyanese
i am so thankful i love my mother in law! this woman is a beast from the foul depths, getting a man arrested in front of his kids (your grandchildren) no wonder the family is trying to distance themselves from this weirdo! act like that and everyone will abandon you in the end, rightfully so! it would be kind of sad if she weren't such an obvious drama queen out for revenge for something that never even happened!
my mom worked with seniors her whole life. some of them can get very cranky and extremely defensive about small things or ways they feel they were 'wronged' but that's normal. this lady is indeed just aging, becoming forgetful, slowly becoming senile. it's a natural process of aging, our minds slow down eventually. she is just going to get more confused as times passes. i hope the family can arrange for her care when she reaches the point where she can no longer live alone. aging sucks!
people are so fucking soft! kick the bitch out she got you fucking arrested. Her family is never ever going to tell you to kick her out but if they know it needs to be done, they're not going to disown you because you did the right thing!!! shes a fucking psycho bitch
@BronzeGangsta yeah, i've seen that on discovery channel. if you are actually crazy enough, your tears will dry as they exit your eye sockets, creating what is known as "some old bullshit"...which is how the phrase, "that's some old bullshit", actually became a part of our language as we know it today. yep, thats what it actually is.
