We have this at my house because we live in an extended network area with a local company that is gay and wont let verizon build towers in this area, so other towns with alltel towers got there towers boosted and that caused a problem for people in my town because verizon and alltel phones kept switching from Nemont to alltel and the signal is so weak that we couldnt do anything on our phones and it drained battery. This works great, but had to bump up dsl speed. and data speeds very slow on it.
we got this extender awhile ago and it's worked fine, up until last week when i was cleaning around the area and suddenly the top SYS light started blinking red. this has happened before so i unplugged everything and plugged it back in, but then the SYS and the GPS light were solid red. i've done everything i can to fix it and i still haven't gotten my service back in a week. i've called verizon numerous times and they've been of no help. i'm really starting to get fucking agitated. help please.
Um, retransmit to a local cell tower? That makes no sense. Doesn't this device rout your calls into your broadband service using a VoIP protocol? If not, WTF is the ethernet port for?
I had terrible phone reception at home in MA. My BB, then my Droid X were unusable. Network Extender made a significant difference. You need to be a Verizon broadband/Internet customer as you get the signal via the Verizon router. I get good coverage throughout most of my 2 story house and basement. Even extends to the back yard. One shortcoming seems to be that when I come home I need to walk close the the device once to get the signal from the Network Extender.
we have tried sevral boosters and none of them work we have sevral verizon towers around we are just "out of reach" of them all will this work for me?
Live in an extended network area provided by a local cell company, but recently the alltel towers here bought by verizon were boosted so the nearest one to me is 17 miles and our phones keep switching to that and we don't get calls or texts and it totally drains your batter. Bought 2 of these for $99.99 one for home and one for my business. They work great! I'm so glad i can kinda get verizon service where i live. Haha
Nice short review. The only thing he left out is the secondary market experience. When people no longer need it and sell to another it is unclear how the MAC address gets to the new owners account. Wish someone can answer this as I am sure that now these have been out for a year there are many on the secondary market.
The terms "booster" and "retransmit" is a bit misleading. The Extender or Femtocell is in effect, a stand alone cell site albeit much smaller than your typical tower.
It does not retransmit to a tower, as you say on your video. It connects to Verizon servers through the internet. If it were as you said, no internet connection would be required.
well someone please tell me if this will work if u plug it in the internet connection only? cuz i live in a area that has no verizon towers or alltel and its covered by a local company, will this work if i plug it in my modem/router at home and be able to use my phone like i can on the verizon network?? would really like to know!
lol 4:17 the only downside to this device is that it basically has no balls (i.e. 3G) but I guess if you live somehwere there is high speed broadband but not good cell phone signal youre covered lol.
How many bars of service did you have on your phone before you hooked the extender up? Do you know if the extender will give you service on your verzion phone if you have no service on your phone what so ever?
sooo... they started making bluetooth headsets cuz we shouldn't have cell phones too close to our heads cuz of harmless waves blah blah... isn't that like a huge cell phone in your home frying you're brain??
No, it's not. If you wore it in your hat all day, that would be a different story. I don't know what passes for fashion where you live, but I don't think too many people will be wearing these bad boys....
No, this thing operates at the same power level of a home wireless broadband 802.11 router and uses the same radio frequency as a cell tower. IT IS A LOW POWER DEVICE.
This model is the old one.....The new one doesn't have a glossy panel.

I don't think it can be used through wireless internet...just through your router or DSL/Cable etc.

New units provide 3G signal.
Mine work excellent - five bars, full 3G signal in an area were there was no signal before.

GPS is not only used for e911 and geo-location;
in fact, the GPS in all Femtocells are primarily used for Sync and Timing;
FemtoCells in all 3G services *must* have timing extraction,
and as 1588-v2 is very poor over ADSL,
GPS is the only alternative for TIMING and SYNCHRONIZATION.
If GPS was used for geo-location, then an initial fix is all that would be required,
yet the item wont work if GPS is lost-
Q: How good is the external cell-handoff performance on this model?

When working through the network extender, does it subtract from your minutes?

So all it does is gives you better ability to make calls but not increase data speeds?

3 Questions:
1. Will I get bars with this if i originally get none at my house?
2. Can I use this if i have a modem and a router?
3. How much does it cost?

Three Questions Reply
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. It in the stores for 213.00 out the door. That's Ohio tax your state may be different.
Sorry for the last half reply.
By the way this does need an internet connection and transmits your calls over the internet to a Verizon server.

Because of many reasons. Contracts, corporate requirements, the phone you want to use....
