It's a pity to see how great was Iran, with his culture, science and art, being opened to the foreign cultures and tolerant towards the other religions... while now it's kinda the opposite... how could this happen?

Now the religious tolerance became just utopia, women are discriminated, censorship and lack of freedom everywhere.

Very nice and interesting documentary but i think a few parts were a bit bloated.Persian's civilization effect might be prevelant around the middle east region but it came nowhere close to the greek civilization for exemple, which is still the core of today's western civilization and reverberates in every aspect of modern life. (languadge, philosophy, theatre, mathematics, geometry, physics, architecture, medicine etc etc..). Nevertheless i learned a few interesting facts :)

I disagree with many of the comments here. Everytime you celebrate Nowruz, realize that your Iranian culture extends across a period of 7000 years.

That part was rubbish ! The Persians lost their idenity and got unpopular under islam and the Ayatollahs !

Well, just like the Brittish had indentured servants there were usually aristocrats which owned the land and people who farmed it like Surfs that took enough to live with and feed themselves, the surplus would go to the land owners. During the Hakhamanesh period ( Akhamanid) women were entitled to one year payed matirnity leave. Each worker had a stone ( Pay Stub) type that counted wages and days worked etc with name and profession.

Very good point indeed. In addition, we have to remember that the people of todays Italy, Egypt, Macedonia, Iran, Greece, Mexico etc have nothing, zero, nada in common with the Civilizations on these territories of the past. Tribes and nationalities, religions, technological successes come and go. Greatness ends up at some historical point and is very often succeeded by mediocrity

Wha happened by the way to the Islamic science and learning? Civilization is not inherited automatically

But if a country like Iran/Persia could succeed its greatness and empire so many times in different periods before....well then they could do it again, even with todays people.

You must also think about the situation in middle east today where colonial minded countrys trys to destroy it.

A new country like USA destroyed irans democrosy in 53 and installed a pupped regime untill it became revolution in 79

As alwys we've to diversify & consider histry in its complexity China & Iran r the only ancient civilizations that r still thriving well. Greece Egypt (where the original population disappeared) r no more. True after WW2 the USA (in Iran,Arab vs Isrl,Afgan)& Sovjet(in Afgan) messed domestic politics up. My heart is bleeding about Iran. Historyguy85 there was no Afghanistan, and no Turkey. Rumi wrote his material in Farsi which is the language of Iranians and some segment of Afghan society who are originally Iranians and speak Farsi, Rumi's works was translated to other tongues. The Persian Empire covered all of Middle East up to India before it was chopped off by the Arabs, Mongol turks, The British and the Russians. Even the people in Tajikistan consider him one of theirs and they also speak Farsi. The Turks also claim him.

stan is the farsi for state. Afghanistan, tajikistan,uzbekistan(parts) etc etc. Also rumi traveled the empire and talked of many other areas such as tabriz. In farsi the nation of Georgia is Georgistan as it used to be a part of iran. Bfreeordie is right at the time there was no afghanistan also that region is what was parthia.
