There's a common saying in Farsi that reads "A red apple for a crippled hand!" That is, for our having 7000 yrs of recorded history with such pre-eminent class & quality, exemplary yet unexampled, as being of an incomparable model for cultural acquisitions n fulfillments, all so indisputably a good merit for all to see... and yet, it had to end up with the worst example of patronizing treaty fit to be so condescendingly offensive, as a spit into the face of the world! what had we done wrong???
Mahabad is believed to be a pre-Zoroastrian Prophet and may be an alternative name for Adam.He is also called "Azar Hooshang" (the Fire of Wisdom).
He was the first of fifteen successive prophets, the thirteenth of whom was Zoroaster and the last was Sasan, from whom the Sassanid Dynasty may be supposed to trace their descent.Their writings are said to be collected in the Dasatir-i-Asmani.
The Paiman-i-Farhang (Excellent Covenant) is Mahabads code of laws
the 'Guti', as a researcher notes,"For about two centuries(circa 2,200 to 2,000 BC) the Gutis gained the upper military hand over the Mesopotamian (primarily, Sumerian)states. In an impressive show of force, they succeeded to annex Sumeria to their domain.Apparently they also founded a separate Guti dynasty that ruled from Sumeria for over a century, until they were evicted. In fact, the Biblical-and modern Mt.Judi Kurdistan) and the Kurdish clan of Judikanlu preserve variant form old,'Guti
Lulubi were a group of tribes during the3rd millennium BC,region known as Lulubum, now the Sharazor plain of in the Zagros Mountains of modern Iran Frayne(1990)identified their city Lulubuna is the modern Halabja.Sumerian legend "Lugalbanda&the Anzud Bird",set in the reign of Enmerkar of Uruk, alludes to the"mountains of Lulubi" as being where the character of Lugalbanda encounters the gigantic Anzud bird while searching for the rest of Enmerkar's army en route to siege Aratta
It's a pity to see how great was Iran, with his culture, science and art, being opened to the foreign cultures and tolerant towards the other religions... while now it's kinda the opposite... how could this happen?
Now the religious tolerance became just utopia, women are discriminated, censorship and lack of freedom everywhere.
@tosan1 bcauze it effectively marked the decline of Persian grandeur. What has been going on thereafter until present days is the usual Islamic agonyzing subpression of human upward mobility
all u western and europeans who hate iran, know that if it was not for us the persians, u would be a salve under a terible leader for there would be no such thing as human rights today
do u not think that someone from iran doesnt know that? i know it but that is not our fault, it is the governmets fauld, if anything id say that the 3rd and final antichrist that is fortold is infact eather ahmadinejad or khomainy, same thing with hitler that second anti christ, he was good at first and every one liked him untill he started ww2, the current leaders of iran r not human, they r deamons in human form, i know it, so do the 80 million people in iran, we all know it
but the point is that we knew not of this befor when we voted for them, same with hitler. but the US and other countries across the world should not threaten us, cos by doing so, they are threatening the people of iran, the same ones who made iran, the same type of people who forst created the human rights, wat they can do is to threaten the government only, dono how but i can assure u that it should not be wat they did in iraq
Very nice and interesting documentary but i think a few parts were a bit bloated.Persian's civilization effect might be prevelant around the middle east region but it came nowhere close to the greek civilization for exemple, which is still the core of today's western civilization and reverberates in every aspect of modern life. (languadge, philosophy, theatre, mathematics, geometry, physics, architecture, medicine etc etc..). Nevertheless i learned a few interesting facts :)
@sahajad, I totally agree with you, it is as if they show what we had, created thousands of years before Arab invasion then suddenly we owe it all to Islam, very typical ignorant understanding of the western society.
Iranians have never lost there culture or heritage, American ignorance still thinks our nation was called Persia & never think or learn that it is only a city & only people from that city that Korosh was born are Persian & our nation always been called Irane Zamin.
yes i agree with you but the persians kept it, y do u think we still speak farsi? the onlyy time where wat you said happened was 31 years ago where the shah (king) of iran was kicked out and the revelution happend, damn khomainy and mahmood ahmadinejad to hell for they hav brought the beutiful lands of iran to curruption nationaly and internationaly, because of these people (not, they r not humans), iran has lost its respect in the world even by its own people
nice!! the only question is these doumentries claim such great achevements for all civilizations they show!! I wounder how the common people lived all these times....these guys just show palaces and royal structures of gardens not the common man!!! very education documentry indeed..... but superfecial !
Well, just like the Brittish had indentured servants there were usually aristocrats which owned the land and people who farmed it like Surfs that took enough to live with and feed themselves, the surplus would go to the land owners. During the Hakhamanesh period ( Akhamanid) women were entitled to one year payed matirnity leave. Each worker had a stone ( Pay Stub) type that counted wages and days worked etc with name and profession.
Very good point indeed. In addition, we have to remember that the people of todays Italy, Egypt, Macedonia, Iran, Greece, Mexico etc have nothing, zero, nada in common with the Civilizations on these territories of the past. Tribes and nationalities, religions, technological successes come and go. Greatness ends up at some historical point and is very often succeeded by mediocrity
Wha happened by the way to the Islamic science and learning? Civilization is not inherited automatically
Very well said....Civilization is not inherited automatically indeed.
But if a country like Iran/Persia could succeed its greatness and empire so many times in different periods before....well then they could do it again, even with todays people.
You must also think about the situation in middle east today where colonial minded countrys trys to destroy it.
A new country like USA destroyed irans democrosy in 53 and installed a pupped regime untill it became revolution in 79
As alwys we've to diversify & consider histry in its complexity China & Iran r the only ancient civilizations that r still thriving well. Greece Egypt (where the original population disappeared) r no more. True after WW2 the USA (in Iran,Arab vs Isrl,Afgan)& Sovjet(in Afgan) messed domestic politics up. My heart is bleeding about Iran. Such intelligent & able peple have to live in such a split & antagonized society! Fundentalist religious thinking & nationalism r corroding the country fr within

Iran should show the beauty of its soul to all peoples of this world with kindness, respect, and humility. Do not let those in power sway you from showing your inner beauty, and open your arms out to those who want to know you and your rich culture. Share with the world what you can offer for lasting peace and harmony, and let us dance to rhythm of laughter, joy and happiness. Be the ones for others in the region to look up to with pride and let others in other parts of the world know you.
Historyguy85 there was no Afghanistan, and no Turkey. Rumi wrote his material in Farsi which is the language of Iranians and some segment of Afghan society who are originally Iranians and speak Farsi, Rumi's works was translated to other tongues. The Persian Empire covered all of Middle East up to India before it was chopped off by the Arabs, Mongol turks, The British and the Russians. Even the people in Tajikistan consider him one of theirs and they also speak Farsi. The Turks also claim him.
stan is the farsi for state. Afghanistan, tajikistan, uzbekistan(parts) etc etc. Also rumi traveled the empire and talked of many other areas such as tabriz. In farsi the nation of Georgia is Georgistan as it used to be a part of iran. Bfreeordie is right at the time there was no afghanistan also that region is what was parthia. Also as far as i am conserned any ppl between the mediterranian and india can call themselves iranian. Iran is a multicultural nation its history is evidence of that
Rewaking any ancient pride (civilization) is a matter of pure ethnic groups (D.N.A) with original literature languages , so its not depend on any religion or any sect at all and the thinking about wich type of political systems is an illusion and waste of time
Perhaps the most amazing and eye opening video I have ever seen. The history classes of the west seems to ignore this, albeit it being the foundation and perfection of all civilization, art, beauty, intellect, math, literature, medicine and etc... We have to spread the word to everyone.

Very well produced documentary, with an excellent collection of scholarly comments.
I disagree with many of the comments here. Everytime you celebrate Nowruz, realize that your Iranian culture extends across a period of 7000 years.

And now they have a backwarded goverment who does not live up to the peoples demands.
My point is that everything comes and go....just like you said....but at the same time it has a reason to be in a dark period.
Just like the mongols destroyed iran...then it flourished again like a cypress tree just like richard frye said.
Maybe irans continuous greatness will not be done in todays generation...but im certain it will be in the future once again... History is inevitable.
