  • The frets are really cool, I like how they're bent one way and as it goes down the neck, it goes the other way!

  • @ElephantsOnStilts

it´s called ´´fanned´´ frets. he improves the intonation of the guitar!

  • que guitarra!!! oh mi dios!!

  • thanx for this wonderfull music!

  • Very cool looking guitar. Like a baritone scale on the bass end and short scale on the treble. Must be awesome for alternate tunings.

  • I thought it wont work with a capo -_ Real nice guitars !

  • I wish I was friends with andy mckee

  • add him on facebook. hes there.

  • @onlyinhuman616

I wish he was my guitar teacher..

  • i would be very happy if there woud be a kind person here send me the tune of this guitar ;D

  • that guitar is so trippy!

  • does anyone know how much this guitar is???

  • $12700

  • his intro to this in Dublin was brilliant

"so i got the idea of this song from thinking of driving around in a flying car"

  • 12 grand is nothing compared to a top end violin

  • not to mention the cellos. . .yikes..

  • yeah but you can't rock out on a violin and i play both guitar AND violin.

  • this is my fav any mckee piece

  • This is one of Andy's best songs in my opinon.Very intricate Bravo!!!

  • Damn that guitar sound nice; if I was made of money I'd buy one for sure.

  • this guitar sounds very very full.........i wish i have a guitar like that

  • Oh my, who wouldnt!

  • He probably got the guitar for free or heavily discounted.

  • when you're the best acoustic player in the world, it has it's perks lol.

  • $12,000? some people have got more money than sense. I bet my McIlroy is as good as this at a fraction of the price.

  • Some people do, but andy mckee has to be one of the smartest people I know of. I'm pretty sure he's weighed the pros and cons of the guitar.

  • are these guitars $12k!! wtf!

  • More for something like he has there. The base price is just over $12,000

  • does anybody else disagree with the addition of those frequent palm mutes during the main riff? i much prefer how, in the original candyrat vid, he only uses that palm mute once and only at the last run through that riff. gives it a special, edgy feel. the song used to sound much more fluid, like i could feel my hovercar racing uninterruptedly thru the streets... now it stops abruptly every six seconds or so. mckee changed many of his songs for the better, but i dont like his changes to this one

  • He's Andy Mckee, he can do whatever the hell he wants and still make it sound like Jesus!

  • Andy Mckee is Jesus.

  • Hahahaha I must say even better!

  • Nope, Jesus' beard was longer.

  • Overpriced.

  • Not for a fan fret, it isn't. Fan frets are rather rare and very labour intensive to make. It takes a lot more skill to make an acoustic than something like an electric. That's what you're really paying for.

  • Sadly, the '08 beginning price of $12.5k is reasonable in today's market. Quality costs. Unfortunately, today everything costs too much for most of us. The quality of life degrades as a result. Greenfield does make wonderful instruments. I still don't get (or like) the fanned frets, though.

  • To play the harmonics, the percussive notes, etc, unmic'd on a camcorder is VERY impressive. Not to mention being able to choose the woods you want and stuff, and systems. They get 12 grand into their somewhere.

Don't be jealous just because you can't afford one : D

  • I'd have to disagree with the ability to play harmonics unmic'd. There are several guitars at the $100 US dollar range that can sound harmonics effectively.

That's not to say this is worth the same as a $100 dollar guitar, because it's definitely NOT!

  • I just don't think that guitar sounds that special and $12,000? I think the Lowden he plays sounds much nicer, but that is purely my own opinion.

  • You have to remember that the guitar is unplugged and it was recorded using the camcorder mic.

  • $12,000! I wouldn't pay $1,200 for it, I think there's better and much cheaper out there.

  • well he is a professional :/

and quite frankly the best in his field right now. so he deserves the best

  • YOU wouildn't, and *I* certainly wouldn't either, but Andy McKee knows a lot more factors to consider when he purchases guitars.

  • lol the neck looks huge with andy's fingers on it, this songs is TOTALLY AWESOME

  • These guitars cost mega bucks.

  • Start at $12,000.00. Sigh.

  • What a great tune Andy...and Mr. Christie? You make good cookies!!

  • emosucks89: who are you?

  • lol @ 3:35 wo-ho

  • omg, so nice to see andy again, thanks emosucks89 for posting these videos, it brings back ALOT of inspiration. andy, antoine and don ross are the freakin guitar gods in my book

  • @eacooo we are on the same page my fellow listener

  • @eacooo Michael Hedges should be right up there with all of them. =)

  • the guitar sounds phenomenal and Andy as always plays it masterfully.

  • one big ass guitar! xD

  • does any one know how different it is to play on fanned frets??

and does anyone know why they put fanned frets?

  • I think its just for ergonomic advantage. I mean andy does a lot of progression with lots of weird stretches and finger position changes and the fanned frets probably make it easier on the wrists.

  • yup, that too.. and the better sounding bass and sustain. Look at how long the bass strings are compared to a normal guitar because of the angled bridge.. xD

  • it's for better intonation all over the neck. Think of an harp, lower strings are longer than the highers, at the same tension, the longest string produces a lower sound. this system is used in fanned frets guitar to correct the tune of the 7, 8, 9 frets, where the lower strings are slightly out of tune in comparison to the higher, by letting them be longer . this is giving the bridge and the first capo that angle, and so distance between each fret varies according to the lenght of the string

  • @Xnipex What is playing a fanned fret guitar like?

  • MASTER !

  • I don't understand what the angled frets do. Is it easier to play or does it have a better tone to it?

  • the frets are angled...the guitar and player are both amazing - i would think andy mckee can make any guitar sound awesome - but this luthier is one of the best in the world.

  • Always happens to me when in DADGAD tuning, second or third string as well, dodgy tuning but it's still my favourite...
