Im a Police officer myself and yea of course the guy ran over the officer which is considered assault and can be classified as worse but still they didnt have to beat the hell outta the guy they but you got youre good ones and bad ones.
He committed a serious offence/crime but, he did not deserve to be assaulted by the policemen. He was obviously injured, not attempting to run or fight with the officers. The Policeman who assaulted him should be charged with a felony, simple as that. There is no way they can claim "we thought he had a gun" or "he wouldn't turn over and show his hands". He was down.
Deserved? Yes. Do the cops have the authority to deliver that beating? Absolutely not. Every officer that struck him should have been severly reprimanded, and undergone training. He was obviously immobile after flipping out of the van. Glad to hear the suspect is in prison, though.
Not much point in beating someone who is a) unconscious so can't "appreciate" the beating and b) who is probably already so beat up from the crash that they won't "appreciate" the aftermath of the beating either. If someone tried to run over my wife like that, and got ejected from the car, they would have probably caught a similar ass whoppin' from me. That being said, it's still against the law and they should all be charged. Emotions are no excuse for breaking the law. I might have delivered a similar ass whoopin', but I'd do it knowing the consequences.

He committed a serious offence/crime but, he did not deserve to be assaulted by the policemen. He was obviously injured, not attempting to run or fight with the officers. The Policeman who assaulted him should be charged with a felony, simple as that. There is no way they can claim "we thought he had a gun" or "he wouldn't turn over and show his hands". He was down.

Deserved? Yes. Do the cops have the authority to deliver that beating? Absolutely not. Every officer that struck him should have been severly reprimanded, and undergone training. He was obviously immobile after flipping out of the van. Glad to hear the suspect is in prison, though.

Not much point in beating someone who is a) unconscious so can't "appreciate" the beating and b) who is probably already so beat up from the crash that they won't "appreciate" the aftermath of the beating either. At least wait till he gets to the jail where he can "appreciate" having a fall on the way to his cell.
And also, if a sense of professionalism and respect for the authority given you isn't enough, shouldn't the knowledge of video camera's make you think twice?

The only reason he nearly ran over the cop was because of the spike strip, he wanted to avoid it. (I'm not saying it was correct what he did) I think the beating was a bit too much, the guy got rolled around in his car and flung out. He was most likely unconscious and they proceeded to beat him out of pure anger.
