Alien Bee Ring flash ABR800 in my photography studio

Good luck being able to shoot PORTRAIT STYLE with that BEE Light. Piece of crap is so heavy it twists the quick release and it is sloppy.

I just got my Alien Bee ABR800. And just found out it's not compatible with my high-end Manfrotto Tripod. The track the light slides into bangs into the tripod head and won't allow the quick release to lock. Piece of Sheet. Now I have to go spend another $350 bucks on a tripod that it's compatible with. This is total CRAP. BEE needs to specify Tripods their stupid light will work with and not work with. I'm under the gun and don't have time to waste on this crap.

I rented one (abr800) and wow it was flimsy.  Arrived w/broken reflector. The rental house (Ziplens) OVERNIGHTED me another reflector. So I can reccomend them and the abr800.

Good vid! One question, can the cybersync system be used with this flash unit? I have all Einstein lights with the cyber commander and would like to get this light to be able to use it for location shoots, but am not sure if I can use the commander with the einstein lights and use this ring flash all at the same time. Or would the light need to be set to slave and the exposure set with a light meter like in the film days?

he gets great results, but don't depend on this vid for "instruction". he's all over the place in helping us understand the equipment and setup.

how many alienbees do you own? im 15 and i am into photography, i bought some MX series lighting and they do really good. Would you suggest alienbees or continuous lighting?

@Miscellaneousviidz yes you want to go with alienbees mono lights over continuous lighting any day. continuous lighting is made for video not photography.

@Kyu1LL You could technically do this with the modeling lights on this ringlight but your bulbs will most likely die sooner than they would by using it for photos.
