The Bible does say to praise Him through the good and the bad. And even if we find that difficult or we don't agree, the Bible also says that everything occurs for a reason. The thing is..what sadyhawkens is saying is that one praises God because of the good things that happened in his life. But we praise him no matter what. "Praising God for the good things" makes it seem you only praise God during the good times.

All the stuff you said I agree with. We do praise him for that. But all of it comes from the fact that he died for us. He came on the cross and forgave us and this is the reason why he does work through us, guard us, protect us.
