what do you think a fair used and new price is for this... is it good for blues, any other catalin breads you'd recomend... thanks :) great reviews :)
Hi Brett, just wanna ask if you think this will blend well as a classic distortion pedal in front of a solid state amp? Nothing heavy, thanks, also if you have tried it with humbucking configuration? Coz I use humbuckers. Thanks, appreciate it
Sure, the HP packs a hell of a wallop. It might actually freak out an SS amp - I don't know because I haven't tried it with any ...except my Marshall Valvestate 80, it loves it. So yeah, go for it, if you can find one. They're pretty scarce now.
Grabbed one of these recently after seeing your demo. Great pedal though does get noisy if Drive is set to high I found with my Strat Plus (with Lace Sensors) Still a superb pedal for its size though..Nice one Catalinbread.
Thanks for the advice Brett. I'll think i'll grab a Hyperpak for now before they disappear. As an aside, really like yours and the Docs DVK Silvertop. Really smooth sounding. Once again, thanks for taking the time. It's really awesome to have a bloke of your skill and background going to the trouble.
Hi Brett, Firstly thanks for top informative video's and the pile of fun you have with Sadie. You'll be needing the shotgun ready in a few years mate. (i got 6y.o. twin girls... i'll lend you mine)
My question is do you think a DLS can impersonate a hyperpak in any of the settings. (because i don't want both, and i'm aware the hyper is discontinued). Thanks again.
Hi CTC. No, the DLS will not do a Hyperpak The Hyperpak is more open, harder, faster attack - it's Townsend in '70 through a HIWATT. The DLS is a a suite of old Marshalls. A little softer attack, bigger bottom, more refined. They're both great but not entirely alike. The thing with Catalinbread (and moreso Nicholas Harris, their chief designer) is that they never do the same thing twice and everything they do has some defiant originality about it. And that's a great thing.
Great demo. It really does hit that live at leeds sound. I'm curious if it is able to achieve the same sound without a marshall sounding amp. Have you tried it with a clean amp such as a fender?
The Laney I ran it through is a sort of hybrid Marshall/Fender but I have tried it through a very good Bassman clone (Achillies Amplification - Melbourne, Australia) and it's just louder (Fender headroom) and brighter. It's a big, big sound for such a little footprint. Grab one if you can find one because they've been discontinued for the time being.
Hey, thanks for the compliment! I don't think the Hyperpak is really a replacement for a Tubescreamer, it's really a different beast. It's far less compressed and doesn't have that mid hump that is so prominent in a Tubescreamer type pedal. The Hyperpak is a much rawer and dynamic affair - think The Who's 'Live at Leeds' album.. :)
This vdemo is way better than Pro Guitar Shop's or Catalinbread's.
I have a question: Could this be used instead of a Tube Screamer? I want a transparent and sweet overdrive that doesn't sound too dirty. I hope you can help me (:
No, I don't think it's a replacement for Tubescreamer. They are much more geared towards a compressed middy sound whereas this little fella is brighter, faster (attack) and generally tougher. A different beast altogether, really.
