  • damn people think 6.8 lbs is heavy my m16a4 build weighs about 12lbs and i handle it just fine. btw nice rifle

  • How does your Colt shoot 55 grain .223 remington.

  • what size are the handguards, 7" or 9" ?

  • @Taydiablo3

    7"

  • @zacbol Right, I have no idea if you can own one for sale in good ol' Arizone. The only reason why i would own one is for the completion of the original rifle characteristics and satisfying recoil. Otherwise I would conserve my ammo with the semi option.

  • I wonder if you could own a full auto m4 as a civilian. That'll be sweet.

  • @NeonVars

It varies by state. In many states, you can own fully automatic weapons, but only those produced and registered prior to the 1986 ban. They are pretty damn expensive as you can guess since there's a limited supply. You also need to get approval from local law enforcement and the ATF. Beyond that, I'm not too familiar with the process as they're not legal in my home state. Plus semi does everything I need.

  • @NeonVars Like zacbol said it varies by state and you have to buy weapons made before the 1986 ban. To get them you apply for a Class III, like you would for a class II to get a silencer, and you have to be approved by you local law enforcement and the ATF. Then every time you buy an automatic weapon you have to pay a tax. I heard it was anywhere from $200-500. Also I think there is some kind of yearly fee for owning the Class III license.

  • Colt really have a quality control issued with the upper and lower receiver ,most brand new Colt AR-15 rifle appear to has an "Wiggle" or play between the upper and lower receiver.

  • @traitor30041975

Play between the upper and lower receiver is a cosmetic issue and nothing more. The fit between the upper and lower on my 6940 is relatively tight, but even if it wasn't it wouldn't matter to me. "Fit and finish" is about the last thing on my priority list as it does not affect the function of the rifle. What does matter are things like: is the carrier key properly staked? Is the castle nut staked? Is the bolt HP/MPI tested? And so on. Colt sets the bar in those areas.

  • @zacbol cosmetic? Is it an easy fix, Im on the market for a colt ar

  • @Zeroskillet

Play between the upper and lower has no effect on the function of the gun. You can "fix" it via something like an AccuWedge, but you're more likely to cause problems and it doesn't fix any real problem. For those concerned about cosmetic stuff like this, I'd advise them to stick to model airplanes and coin collecting. If you use the gun a lot, it'll get beat to shit anyway.

  • WTF were they thinking when they made that retarded ejection port cover. Just sayin

  • Nice review. Love the 6940.

  • So all I got to ask, is it a good 1st AR to get? Cause I have about 2 or 3 other AR's on my list for my birthday and I need to pick one soon. Lol.

  • get a ris2 m4a1 with the front sight cutout ., that would be beautiful., block 2 build wit jus a rail, an u got the matech rear buis

  • i like that front sight/gas block......

  • I just bought a new SP6920 could not tell the difference between the LE and the SP.

    I'm still doing research .

  • @rcruz003

At this point, there is fairly universal consensus from those in the know (and that includes statements from Colt) that the SP-line is identical to the LE-line other than the markings...and the extra couple hundred bucks still in your wallet. So, I'm confident you're good man. Side note, G & R tactical is selling (SP)6940s online for about $1280 which is a great deal. And Grant who owns/run the site is a solid guy.

  • @zacbol ....Hey Zac , good to know and pretty much confirmed what I suspected . This morning I had both SP6920 and LE6920 side by side . As you mentioned , there are no differences . The mags interchange , barrles , stock, charging handle , pretty much everything is the same . So , I kinda' breathed a sigh of relief.

By the way great review and thanks for your input .

    New subscriber on board .

    Thanks again

  • I bought an SP6920 a few days ago, im waiting for the 10 day hold to be up before I get it. I called Colt to ask a few questions, first if the SP was MP tested, he said all colts were. Also the man told me (his exact words) were "I get asked this question all the time, there is no difference between the SP and the LE other than the roll marks. In the plant, when they get to the end of the production line the SP goes one way and the LE goes the other way". Call them yourselves, no problem.

  • @iLoveMyGun89 how much u pay?

  • @rsxtypes06usdm $1300. You can find them online for $1,000, but having it in my hand before buying it is way worth it

  • @iLoveMyGun89 is yours the sp6920? or sp 6940?

  • @rsxtypes06usdm sp6920. The 6940 has the special 1 peice upper which i actually didnt want. But the 6920 does not have any rail system so Ill have to buy those seperate

  • @iLoveMyGun89 so u paid 1300? with tax?

  • @rsxtypes06usdm Well, it the gun was 1300, but after $78 in tax and a $10 state back round check it was 1388 out the door.

  • I have the LE6940 and love it. It's built like a tank and runs extremely well. Zero failures with a wide vatiety of ammunition, MOD 0 SOST and M855 Lake City, as well as some heavier 77 and 79 Gr rounds. Internals are fantastic quality, and while one can spend a lot less for an AR, there is a reason Colt commands a higher price.

  • my second cousin works for the colt company. of course they dont reveal the difference between the sp and the le. open up your le, no sear block. check out an sp's internal tell me what you find

  • Sp has a sear block. Le doesnt

  • @rsxtypes06usdm

Have you personally inspected an SP6920/6940? I've seen a number of postings about the SP-series saying they are *identical* to the LE line sans the 'For Military and Gov/Law Enforcement Use Only rollmark,'. More importantly this question has come up in the context of QC and things like HPT/MPI and Colt has gone on record saying they're the same gun. Though that does beg the question of why there is a several hundred dollar price difference.

  • @zacbol dude what is that hand grip in the front called? i have seen a bunch, but i do not know its name

  • @badgerattoadhall

It's a Magpul AFG (Angled Foregrip). It's the first version they came out with. They subsequently released a slightly skinnier, smaller version (AFG2) that many folks prefer. In general, I dislike foregrips and actually removed the vertical foregrip that came with my SR15, but because the handguard is only 7", I like it on this to give me a sense of how far forward I can grip it without accidentally touching the (hot) barrel.

  • @rsxtypes06usdm Both the LE & SP have sear blocks

  • How much you pay

  • @rsxtypes06usdm

    $1489 before tax

  • Excellent rifle. Dont find the front sight to be an issue at all especially if you use a red dot or ACOG as its really just a back up sight never used....

  • price with the eotech? if nto thats kindve a rip compared to what you could build it your self for

  • @famasdan

Nope it was not with the EoTech. As I said in the video, if you're buying a Colt you'll always be paying a premium. If you don't want to, you don't buy Colt, there are plenty of other great options that are cheaper: BCM, DD, etc. $1500 for an LE6940 is a pretty decent price. With the new SP line (i.e. SP6940), it's a bit more competitively priced. I'm guessing they'll run around $1300. But you always have to kick in some extra cash to have the pony on the side.
