i love scorsese as much as the next guy, but he always seems to credit powell/pressburger for images he's borrowed but never other filmmakers. take for instance the drunk scene from mean streets the mounted camera on a character was taken from John Frankenheimer's film "Seconds," made in '66 (seven years before Mean Streets). you can see for yourself, search "dpos977 Seconds 1966 - John Frankenheimer.
Wow, he's human..."turn on a tungsten light...what do you want?" "Don't tell me you wanna add smoke" LOL~! Did you hear that everyone?...it's totally awesome! He's human.
When he says 'Yes, move on' he seems so frustrated, and there are so many potential reasons for that, it's hard to read. But man does he seem really irritated.
@swinginjazzz I never thought about it that way, there's so many reasons it could be, he could be tired (because he's old, or just in general) frustrated that the guy sorta cut him off, or anything really, but you can actually see him getting frustrated as he's talking about it. To say that he loves film is clearly an understatement, so I bet you're right.
Of course it's always a great pleasure to hear Mr Scorsese... But I have to say... Fuck the interviewer... And I won't say nothing about his cocksuckiness... Jyst Chill out, listen and let us listen to the man... Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
@filmransom No, he's talking about frame rate. De Niro's eyes move in slow motion, which is achieved by filming at a higher frame rate, e.g. 48fps, and playing back at 24fps. The blurring and streaking of the lights through the car windscreen is achieved by slow shutter speed, but Marty wasn't referring to that.

When Marty says "shooting 36,42,54" etc, what does that mean exacly? I know it's got something to do with speed. Is it frames per second? If anyone knows, please let me know. Thank you.
He seems pretty on it when it comes to Socrsese's movies. Except for asking if Scorsese "regretted" the hallway shot in Taxi Driver, which Scorsese has cited as the most important shot in the morning

i think scorsese is a great director and some of the things he says cannot be summarized better by anyone else...but i do think he is a bit rude in this interview, he keeps on cutting off the interviewer even though he is a dumbass.
If you pay attention to the interview, I think you'll find that the interviewer said that becaused he sensed that Scorsese was getting emotional, and that Scrosese wanted to move on. That's the way I percived it.
i think he advocates a notion that anyone can be a filmmaker, for me only 2 other directors posses this inspiration werner herzog and jean luc-goddard.

@futurestoryteller I think he's frustrated by the fact that not enough is being done to preserve film.

Sound Speed is 24 Frames per second.
To get slow motion, the camera motor is run faster, 36 or 48 frames per second.

I think he means the amount of hours he shot progressively over the weeks of shooting.
camer0n345 2 years ago
Yea he's referring to frames per second.

Yes, I think he's a little intimidated. He's not listening. He's just thinking about the next question he's going to ask.
