  • Nice of Fabio Cappello to make an appearance at 3.00..

  • I want the number of the left vocalist.

  • I hate it when drummers look like they are struggling really bad..... particularly to such a chilled song like this

  • @ben2nd you know who would be awesome on drums... tommy igoe. he can seriously play everything incredibly tasty and it always looks totally effortless

  • yoyoyoyoyo you guys smell that? I SMELL BULLLLLLSHIIITTTT

  • I guess for each is their own. Short of singing speed metal or punk, Michael McDonald can pull off everything else. It does sound a bit odd since Fagen isn't singing. I still think it's a good rendition.

  • I like Mike McDonald as a singer and artist, but in my opinion this song is in way to high of a register for his voice. It would sound much better in a lower key better suited to fit his voice........

  • Is that Will Sasso?

  • THere was a wonderful drone to the original track that and Diaz's electric sitar solo was totally distinctive, still love the song but this updated arrangement falls short for me.

  • I didn't know George Lucas could sing..

  • tight drum solo

  • should mike mcdonald be behind a counter in a comic book store or have i lost my mind?

  • They should have let one of those chicks sing this, or practiced. Is Fagen waisted or what?

  • Love this cut,CLASSIC!!

  • 4:22 DETERMINATION FACE

  • Donald Fagen doesn't got it anymore

  • mike mcdonald was holdin it down

  • Michael McDonald is soooo cool. The voice of Zeus.

  • Is he reading the lyrics on that monitor?

  • Wow, they added quite a bit of music to this tune when comparing it to the old studio version. Lots of surprising changes for those of us who haven't seen them live in ages.

  • @itisYOUREnotYOUR rob halford from judas priest is bald

  • and on keyboard at 1:00 we have George Lucas!!!

  • Never really ever got into Steely Dan. Do love Mcdonald and it led me here. I'm loving this song. Now off to find some more Steely Dan songs! :D

  • If you can't find the meaning in this song, you obviously think you've never repeated mistakes.

  • The show on the 16th sent chills thru my nerves, need to learn the Guitar that I've been putting off, I keep forgetting so I'll just have to do it again, need to commit because my whole family can play something, but I can't. after that, I'll learn to work the Saxophone, I, I'll play just what I feel...

  • fabio cappello on lead guitar!

  • your never too old i started playing bass when i was 19 started playing guitar when was 33 and i'm still playing i'm 44 now and i'm not quiting i'll die with a guitar in my hand lol i love playing guitar and bass and the best thing is i learned it all by ear

  • Holy shit! Is that Fabio Capello on guitar!?! 3:00

  • rolph harris has got a decent voice

  • @sheepfrager :D :D :D

  • The drummer is Keith Carlock......check him out

  • that drummer is good.

  • fuck he still sounds cool

  • my parents FAV! \\m//

  • this shit sucks. these kids were not even in the band.

  • Greatest Electric Sitar Solo ever recorded. . . .

  • At about 3:31 Donald Fagen starts to put his "2 cents" in with Michael McDonald.....@ 3:55 Michael...turns to Fagen as if to say "Shut up,...your fucking up the song"....LOL

  • @SRMeadows I think you mean "you're" not "your". As a matter of fact, I don't THINK you mean that, I KNOW you mean that.

  • @SRMeadows: very well said! I agree completely.

  • @SRMeadows at 3.31 Fagen wakes up out of a coma...

  • @SRMeadows I disagree. I think that McDonald was just looking at Fagen.

  • This was always one of my favorite Steely Dan songs but Michael McDonald just puts it OVER THE TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good Lord this is beautiful

  • sept beacon nyc

  • I am going to a concert in July 2011!

  • Amazing Drummer

  • I remember sometime in like 1997-1999 when I was watching the Grammy's and Korn was up for best song(or maybe it was MTV Music Awards not sure) but Steely Dan got album of the year over Korn and I was so mad. What was I thinking, Steely Dan is awesome! >>>>>>>>> Korn

  • @vaibanez17 Ha dude Korn doesn't even fucking compare to SD. They're completely on different levels musically, and Korns leven basically only consists of shitty screaming.

  • @colepalm Yeah that's why i did the greater than sign many times of Steely Dan > Korn. Once I turned 16, I realized how stupid Korn was(I mean for god sakes, they play 7 string guitars where the 7th string is a lower than E string, who does that?) and I definitely broadened my horizons on music.

  • They have been thrilling me since 1972!!!!!

    The absolute BEST!!

  • mm i was asking for the blond, is the man in white hair the same? who s donald fagen, the one that is in black in the original 70's video? Well that song is still very cool, i like to play it in(on?) guitar hero.

  • @dc00116 Do not mention Guitar Hero in the presence of musical genius. Good lord!

  • is the guy singing the same guy that sings this song in a 70's video with curly hair???

  • no lie, both the guitar and drum solos were sick

  • The best band ever made and over standing I heard in my life I am 55 yrs old From Paris and discovered this amazing band in 1975 in the states when I was student !Doobie brothers and stelly dan and tower of power never never leave my life since!!!

  • Keith was put on this planet to grove like no other. Such a gifted soul. Upper Darby PA Sept 9-10, got the tix yesterday. Im 32 and have been hooked since 10 thanks to all the late night parties my parents threw. Thanks Mom & Dad, where ever you are! This will truly be a dream come true. Bucket list- Steely Dan live.......check!

  • shit... the drum solo's saves the thang....

  • Wow, great arrangements. Have my doubts about the drum solo, but overall, a masterpiece.

  • Michael McDonald is singing lead on this song? The Hell? I mean he's got a great voice, but there's really nothing wrong with Fagan singing lead here.

  • So complex code changes. Too technical?

  • This is just the same magic as when I first heard it in the 70s.

  • Excellent................

  • al buen bailarin y al musico el compás le queda asi pase el tiempo-que linda canción - STEELY DAN parecen Doobie Brothers (the good dancer and musician is the beat so you spend time, that beautiful song - STEELY DAN seem Doobie Brothers)

  • I remember debating on whether or not to go to this show up until about 4:30 that day, the show started at 7:00 or something. Finally I said, "I dont have anything else to do, I guess I'll go"... one of the best decisions of my life. After seeing this show I learned to play the piano, bought a Fender Rhodes, and started writing music. I am now a keyboardist singer/songwriter with my own band. This is the show that made me want to be a musician. I can honestly say that this show changed my life.

  • @coachcdobbs love hearing stories like that. you made a great decision. congrats.

  • @coachcdobbs - I logged in just to say that's awesome! Every concert I go to makes me want to be a keyboardist singer/songwriter, so I know what you mean. I saw a show just before this one (July '06) in CA. Keith Carlock blew my mind! Anyway, good luck!

  • @coachcdobbs Great story,so happy for you! Good luck with your band.If you do anything near what these guys do, you must be awesome.I always said Steely Dan is better than Valium for the end of the day relaxation! ♥msstevie♥

  • @coachcdobbs - In 1976 I heard Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love in my brothers car on 8 track and was blown away. At 13, I knew I wanted to be a drummer. I have had the good fortune of being in some great bands with great guys and have played the Roxy L.A., Skirball Center, El Rey, Fonda Music Box, other clubs in L.A., Philly, D.C., NY, and my career highlight thus far, The Hollywood Bowl in the summer of 2008. Not bad for a moonlighting musician. I wish you success and joy. God bless!

  • @coachcdobbs That's awesome ! ! I too would like to learn piano & guitar, but alas am 53 years old & feel too old to start such major undertakings. I did play saxophone & trumpet when I was inn school, but piano & guitar seem way more complicated with the infinite number of chords, but I would encourage all young people to become active & involved in every aspect of music while you are still young, as it is easier to learn to play an instrument when you are younger.

  • @StevieB1362 You're NEVER too old man.....!

  • I haven't even been conceived yet and I like this music.

  • The Drummer is playing double stroke rolls with his left hand only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm in the womb and i love this music.

  • @Slaughterofthesoul The Drummer is playing double stroke rolls with his left hand only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm only 3 and I love this music

  • piss poor

  • McDonald waters down and pussifies everything he puts his lame ass talent into. He's ruined this song worse than he ruined the Doobies. He just sucks.

  • @kc12112 Shut up you cretin.

  • sounds a little more like the doobie brothers, sorry, i like steely dan

  • Best song about criminally irresponsible behavior ever.

  • @illlite Better than "Kid Charlemagne"?

  • @illlite More just unaccountable.

  • @illlite

Nah... Kid Charlemagne is a better song. And about criminal behavior as well.

    LOL

  • @illlite: It's actually about reincarnation ("you go back, Jack, do it again") and karma ("wheels turnin' round and round" = the wheels of karma).

  • IT IS FABIO!!! What a guy! Sooo talented :-O

  • This version is good, but I LOVE the one from the 1996 Manassas concert with DF doing vocals.

  • @rosedarling11 ugh, i couldnt STAND his vocals on that 1. look up "do it again live 2003"

  • @kell1reilly2 Well, I'm not a music critic, but just know what I like. But, hey, it's my dream man singing on both of them, so it's all good.

  • Hey, good band, man. And Mike can sing.

  • Holy Crap that looks like the England manager 'Fabio Capello' playin' the guitar@ 3:00...lol Great Song...

  • I've had the privilage of watching Keith play in the 55Bar with Wayne Krantz since 96 when he first moved to NY. Seen about 50 or more shows there with Keith, Wayne, and whatever bass player could make the gig. I think that bar is where Becker & Fagan met Keith because they are Krantz fans as well.

  • Love the new arrangement here! Like this version much better than the original. Donald & Walter never liked this tune (played to death on the radio over decades before they developed real polish with later records). This arrangment makes this tune more interesting, slick, cosmopolitan, and just plain better.

  • oh! vocal by michael mcdonald!

  • Comment removed

  • Is he reading lyrics???

  • hahahahaha man lots of switch ups between steeley dan and doobie brothers.

  • michael mcdonald

  • cooltooth112.yep the drummer for BS&T was indeed B obby Colomby.

    great drummer .tremendous light touch.

my fave BS&T album is still the first,'Child Is Father To The Man'.

but with the incredible Al Kooper fronting the band, what do you expect?

solid gold.thank gos i'm a child of the sixties.

we'll never see so much talent again.

  • the drum solo, omg!

  • Allright Mcdonald.. just sing backup on Peg would ya? Leave the rest for Fagen. He tailor made the Vocal phrasing for his voice. Anyone else that I hear try.. it just sounds like it's a mouthful.

  • McDonald's voice fits surprisingly well. Nice solo from Walter too

  • Amazing version !

  • A more souldful version of the original. True songwriting craftsmanship. A million lightyears ahead of today's output. Check out Donald Fagin's 'Morph the Cat' CD - it's got some great tunes.

  • haha I'm 14 and i love the dan!!!!

  • steely dan or doobie brothers?

  • Drummer looks like Bryan Adams/Gordon Ramsey? Brilliant interpolation and playing.

  • It is Michael McD indeed. This video shows the massive difference between professional drummers and non professional ones.

  • @paulanderson79 Best drummer IMO during the late 60's and early 70's was the drummer for Blood, Sweat and Tears. I think his last name was Colomby or something like that. Anyway, he was one of the greats.

  • @cooltooth112 - Didn't B, S and T feature Jim Fielder on bass who later joined Neil Sedaka's concert band?

  • @paulanderson79 That is correct.

  • There is Michael McDonald in the vocals and keyboard?

  • excellent n great stuff!

  • The drummer killed it

  • 2 dislikes from beiber and gaga...

  • Carlock is just fucking killing it!

  • Everyone looks so happy on stage!

What a great night, wish I was there.

    Steely Dan rules!

  • I was never a big fan of Michael McDonald, and given the choice to hear Donald Fagen sing this or McD I'd take Fagen in a minute, that being said it's not really a cover band version of this song, with Walter Becker there.

  • i definitely need to have this as an mp3 somehow someone wanna help out?

  • This is great as a cover. But Donald Fagan is not at the helm. Just not right to old School men like me .Make no mistake, they did a good job.To those who think we are over the hill, Piss off! I have done 27 shows with various versions of the band., as a sound contractor. All are talented men. Yo get it or you don't. What's in the Coke ca n Don? Cardi's was my favorite venue. Brownsville Texas.. Yup..I still use old horn load rigs. Nothing sounds like them, but one of them. That's the deal!

  • i must have missed something, I wasn't expecting to see Michael NcDonald singing with Steely Dan, but what a bonus. Only 2 hours ago I was raving about how marvellous he is.

  • They are awesome. The only difference is they traded in the sock in the tight jeans for dockers and depends...Just kidding guys...still luv ya! Michael, you are still hot.

  • @pegsbored back jack dockers,depends

  • Da ja vu all over again!

  • As I'm 56 fat and balding...... Jayz I think they look better than in 1973 and the music is still magic !

  • Great stuff!! I can't believe someone "disliked" it... what's there not to love? Keith Carlock was fantastic at the end!

  • Super Mac's voice is still amazing...do it again anytime!!!

  • I got gyped. Michael McDonald wasn't with the Big Steely Dan when I saw them outside if Fresno. They were still the shiz

  • wow they all look like a reck

  • @BNSF9250 How are you gonna look in 35+ years?

  • A lovely rearrangement of this one.

  • Guitarist looks like Fabio Cappello. Epic song though their best by far.

  • Comment removed

  • I like how mellow this arrangement is. McDonald's vocals are great too (even though I would have preferred Fagen doing lead)

  • Keith Carlock on drums. Awesome. Great arrangement with cooler than cool key changes. McDonald seems surprised that Fagen joined in on harmony vocal! Maybe he wasn't expecting that.

  • still great word, nobody like the"DAN"

  • Mr. Frank Beard should have played on this.

  • this is the only song i cant pass on guitar hero lol

  • @lhslakewood90713 you suck

  • @lhslakewood90713

wtf not on this song. that you can't beat done with everything die with you nothing(on expert) is something i understand but that you can't beat this (on expert)this.

  • I don't know why, but whenvever I hear stuff like this, it really makes me think what a piece of shit "American Idol" is.

  • Oh my! This is a great one, has the sound of Asa/Gaucho era . McDonald on vocals is superb.

  • I'd like to see Joey Jordison play his version of that.

  • I like their sound live more than the original record recordings, except for the opening guitar on 'Dont take me alive'.

  • Why isnt the "great" David Palmer singing w/ Steely Dan anymore? Did the rest of the band kick him out for his hygiene?

  • @pbrick6301 Yeah, that snotbag LOL

  • Keith Carlock. Lovely drummer.

  • Without Jeff Baxter and Denny Diaz this ansemble does not cut it.

  • Micheal mcdonald is just flawless - and the voice of an angel - DO NOT TRY TO COME FOR HIM WITH YOUR NEGATIVE WORDS - THIS MAN IS A TRUE ARTIST - NOT SOME VAIN IDIOT - OR FLASH IN THE PAN - MICHEAL MCDONALD IS ONE OF THE GREATEST PERFORMERS TO EVER UTTER A NOTE.

  • His name is Michael MCDONALD('s). How do you expect him to not be husky. Lol.

  • Best Steely Dan song, by far.

  • God knows I love Michael McDonald, but where is Donald Fagan on this?

  • How on the case is that Drummer!........Wow!

  • @madjack1950 its keith Carlock, check out the piece on him on here when he was 15...'awesome' as you say in the states!lol

  • Steely Dan went from raw power to lounge ... miss Diaz and the original energy.

    Dead-end.

  • I'm only 8 and I like this music

  • @dfddempsey There IS hope in the world!

  • @dfddempsey You must have parents who are musicians, or you are lying about your age.

  • doesnt sound good like there studio version

  • Extremely cool. Walter and Michael could sing a fast food menu and make it sound good :)

  • @seannymac33 Exactly you said it! Love how you put it! lol ♥ msstevie ♥

  • Is this the best song in the world?

  • @00cochrane2 maybe.....maybe

  • Is this the best song in the world??

  • Nice to see Walter Becker laying down some smooth licks at the beginning.

  • Great tune, awesome fusion-esque ending in this version too.

  • Keith Carlock is a monster drummer, he maintains a sold groove and when it's his time to "speak" his ability screams loudly at his ability on the drum set. NO congas are needs. I've seen Steely Dan twive this past year and he is one of the top musical drummers in the world.

  • Absofuckinlutely!!!!!!!!!! Keith is certainly something very special!

  • It would have been cool to have the congas as well. But yeah, damn good drum solo!

  • well.. Fagen has always had singing issues , this is not news , isn't it ?

The guitar solo is soo very cool .. yeah yeah.. lots of out of tune notes in the vocals, you see Michael lookin at Fagen a few times .. it's funny ..haha.. but hell .. haha I love this anyway the final is brilliant , that drummer rocks .. :)

  • C'mon, aeropilot... everyone gets older. I am a composer-pianist, and I can testify that the emotion is still there, even there are physical issues. The fact that DF-WB didn't perform live for a long time, makes these live performances special. Nothing--in most cases--will approach the youthful studio releases... I'm just happy they are still with us, and are out there kickin' it.

  • "if you don't agree then you don't know pop history" - whoa! Have the courage of your convictions, aeropilot. If you believe in a statement, you surely don't need to 'protect' it with belligerent comments such as this. Let's get back to enjoying the music, shall we
