When a govt agent is on duty (ANY govt agent) you do not have to inform them you are recording and they cannot lawfully/legally tell you to stop recording them.
They don't inform you that they are recording you (ie: cops with audio mic lapel & video dash cam) ... why do you think that is?
Why couldn't you record more of what happened so we could see his response when he came back to the car? I'd really like to see the rest. @Tactikalguy1 Firstly, the information you gave him CAN incriminate you; however, you giving that to him isn't incriminating yourself because the information you must supply him is law: you have to have registration, insurance, and a license to operate the vehicle. Next, refusing to answer questions that even you admit that he has documentation is just being difficult.

An explanation or answering of that would in this case HELPS you.

Suppose it was your friend's car and you had permission to drive it, saying that to the officer and answering that question would clear that up. Also, not answering questions that you gave him info about (age, etc.) = being a dick. And yes, the information you give him CAN be used against you, but it is required by law that you do. If you can't provide proof of insurance, it is evidence.

This is not true in all scenarios. Courts have recognized that people can refuse to answer almost all officers questions, with the exception of ID in certain cases.

An explanation or answering of that would in this case HELPS you.

Suppose it was your friend's car and you had permission to drive it, saying that to the officer and answering that question would clear that up. Also, not answering questions that you gave him info about (age, etc.) = being a dick. And yes, the information you give him CAN be used against you, but it is required by law that you do. If you can't provide proof of insurance, it is evidence.
